.750 / .250 copper / nickel same composition used as before. Was there something used to clean planchets maybe sodium compound ?

You should not dabble in this early 19th century stuff without the years of trial and error gathered through experience. Many of the so called mint state coins in NGC and PCGS holders have some friction under that tone. Yours is scrubbed or wizzed with AU detail IMO. Send it back if you can before you remove it from the 2 by 2.

I believe the site coinnews.net, or some such, and the coin was a Washington quarter. (I didn't loiter long enough to find out because I sensed Dena's presence)
And guess what? The TPGS' very first coin was entombed, in 1985, sideways. SIDEWAYS! If anyone can summon up the intestinal fortitude to justify that, with a straight face, I am all ears.
This has always turned me away from those holders. And to think some pay way up for rattlers with some coins turned even upside down !

Well done Roger ! Congrats.

Too many coins like these were available with no real attrition. Just try to find nice gem 1936 proof coins with mintages around 3900. These are always expensive and always in demand. If you can find a '36 Brilliant proof cent without corrosion spots you have found a rare coin !

I was told 10 days for my reholder submission.

Outside the political aspect to me it just means print more money, run away inflation and goodbye to your retirement savings. Might be that the only thing of value I have left is my family and my coins.

We have a Senator who voted yes to recent spending bills. He will be toast on his next time around

I own quite a few Star coins. However I prefer my Star coin to have superior eye appeal. Not just ALMOST the next grade or ALMOST Ultra Cameo as these are nothing more than value add ons at best.

NGC Price Guide, PCGS Price Guide, Numismedia Fair Market Value, Grey Sheet, I consider all of these FMV although auction prices are also a reasonable idea of value. But these listings are all different for any one coin ! So really its only somewhat relative to me. It's the actual coin that I look at compared to others I have viewed.

Dear Lord.
When I saw the initial 2 pictures, I thought, that’s a beautiful mint stater he has there.
I think ANACS missed it.I agree with the slabbed grade.
Guess that makes 2 of us. Looks 62 or 63 to me. Really need it in hand though.

SLABS ARE NOT PROTECTIVE, PERIOD! Let’s stop that pernicious myth (lie) right here and right now!
That is one of the most rediculous statements I've ever heard coming from somebody who should know better. C'mon man after seeing what happens to red coppers in two by twos and observing a collector racing to shovel up his Peace Dollars after dropping his Dansco on the concrete floor at a local show, I'm floored at your 'never slab' kind of mentality. I used to have the same attitude I confess but I've since moved on.

As I was looking at a few of my buffalo nickels this morning a question came to my mind. I could probably do some research and find the answer myself but, I figured it would be educational to myself and others who dont know if I ask it here. I was looking at the type 1 and type 2 reverses on my 1913 buffalo nickels. Why did they change the reverse style? I never really got into studying up on buffalo nickels and Ive had this question on my mind for a long time. I was thinking it may have to do with the results after being struck or something of that nature but wasnt sure. Just taking a guess. My pictures are awful but they should be good enough where new collectors can see the difference in the reverse types. On the two reverse pics. The first is type 1 and the second is type 2. Most know which one is which. Im just pointing that out for new collectors who may read this so they will know the difference.
Excellent discussion topic as I am looking to purchase a Type 1 Buffalo to go with my short set as a type coin comparison. I could only hope to find a fully struck T1 with that surface texture like the one posted earlier.

Of course you can buy slabbed coins and crack them out. Makes sense doesn't it. Without slabs Mr. Mishlers' proofs are certainly showing environmental damage though still appealing I'm sure. I take a slab for what it was intended to be. That would be an anti tampering device first then a protective device next and on down the list of its benefits you can go. Then go ahead if you want to handle your coins crack them out, TPGs would love to regrade them when the next generation gets hold of them.

Costs could be offset somewhat if one cent coins were eliminated. Every time I handle change I just laugh when I see pennies.

Once a CAC coin, always a CAC coin. Really doesn't need the sticker if the number stays the same. By the way I have had my reholdered coins restickered [in early days] for free. However the key here is that basic tier coins may never be stickered again.
-
Given the cost of certification and slabbing I think a full explanation of reasoning is warranted. For even a smaller fee at CAC I could get an explanation from John Albanese if he didn't like the coin.

Very sad news and we've lost a great man. So sorry to hear this although I knew he was sick.

Is that anything similar to todays asking price for let's say fuel one price cash and another price for credit ?
After all everything local is paid in dollars.
