  1. While that may well be a coin with a Condor on it, I assure you it is not a Conder token.

Conder tokens are only from Great Britain and not from Chile.

    As seen here:

Kim, great article you linked to there! ;) I have expanded the Wiki article from 2 paragraphs about 1.5 months ago to its current state. It's still a work in progress, but it's far more complete than it was. Recognize any of the pictures there also? :D

  2. Enclosed is my latest gold a 20Fr French 1912 PCGS MS-66. I picked this one up from the Goldberg Auction a couple weeks back and now have a complete set of French 20Fr gold from 1907 to 1914 all MS-66 from NCG or PCGS!!! :D

I don't collect gold, but if I ever started that Chaplain design would be one of the first I added to my collection. Every time I see an example my heart skips a beat. Just a phenomenal design. (thumbs u

  3. I'd like to own a MS67PL Conder token but hadn't seen one til now (or have I)?

It's funny you bring this example up Bob. I have looked at the pictures of that piece a lot since it was posted a few days ago, and I can't fathom how it received that grade. To my eye, I swear that I can see lacquer on it, but maybe I'm just seeing things. (shrug)

I have purchased several pieces from this seller over the past few months, and I will say that their ability to photograph the coins is pretty bad. ALL of the pieces I have received looked way better in hand than the pictures in the auction. But, I have a pretty good eye for "interpretation" of bad eBay pictures. That being said, my eyes can't quite figure out how this one would get to the MS67BN PL level.

What are your thoughts Bob? Others?

I've also been watching this seller for well over a year and all I can say is he's had some horrific looking exonumia in high graded holders. The variety which I recently purchased off you brg5658 in a 63 holder far out shined the sellers 66 which I personally feel should have been in a 62 holder. I personally haven't purchased from this seller to date but have seen a good amount of his post sale items with 2 dealers at shows. Viewing them in hand the first thought that normally comes to mind = ugh!

I'd have to agree with you on this count. I have been very picky on which of this sellers tokens I have bid on. I won't touch that MS67BN PL token; to me it just looks funny (and over graded by 2 or more points).

  5. I couldn't resist picking this one up for the price! I'll buy MS graded Conders (even those minted by the ton) for $90 all day long. :) There is a bit of weakness to the strike on the obverse lower right (and the corresponding reverse upper right). I'm guessing it's due to a slightly thin area of the flan. Lots of red left on the reverse.

  6. I think this is a pretty cool medal design. This is a uniface restrike of the obverse die of the Baker-60 Washington Born Virginia Medal.

A little background information: In 1959, Albert Collis created a transfer die of the original die used to strike the undated "Washington Born Virginia" Medals (Jacob Perkins, c. 1792). Using the copy die, Collis struck the following examples, all uniface (mintages in parentheses): Platinum (1); Lead (1); Gold (7); Silver (22); Copper (5,019). Once the restriking was completed, Collis donated the die to the American Numismatic Association, where it resides today.

This is one of the 5,019 copper pieces, with what I find to be quite attractive toning (the obverse really is that pinkish/red color in the upper left).
