Very true.  I agree with all of this.  U.S. politics in general either disillusion or disgust me by and large and have for almost as long as I remember.  Despite my responses, I actually hate the topic, but I had one of those visceral reactions that Roger is referring to.  I, for one, would like to get back to coins and off of U.S. political garbage.  Given my thoughts on the whole issue of the U.S. and American politics as a whole entity, I should probably just move to Canada anyway

I got another great deal on a nice, cute little pfennig tonight.  These are the seller's pics:

This is an appropriate pickup in considering the awesome pfennig article tj96 shared with us today.  Anytime you can find Muldenhutten Mint East German in MS for under $10, it's a good day!!  These are the seller's pics:

I agree.  From the color and the magnetism, I'm going to guess nickel plated.

It has been plated, that accounts for the mushy look of the coin, the extra weight, and the ability to be attracted to a magnet.

    @Dang vang
These arent some guys sitting at the end of the bar. You received correct answers from some very knowledgeable collectors with decades of experience. One also happens to be a renowned numismatic researcher and author whose books have one won numerous awards.
You can continue to question the info if you like, but you're getting correct and accurate answers.  If you disagree, feel free to send your coin in for grading.  That would be a waste of $50-60 IMO, but you seem to have already made up your mind.
Best of luck with the hobby

Well, I can't afford to get all the coins I need or want...  So I've spent time organized what little I have.   Doing small projects like these, inventory, organizing, know what you have and where it is, is always helpful.

Man, TJ....you're just nailing the storage solutions lately!!! That looks awesome for some of those little ANACS slabs.  I don't have a lot of them, but sometimes you see some nice East and West German coins in them, so you never know.  If I do get some more, I know what kind of box to get now.  Thanks!!!

No thanks.  I know what kind of coin garbage is on YouTube, thank you very much.  I don't need to go re-watch that same old, tired, lying, sensationalist, click bait garbage because that's exactly what it is.  And, after 23 years in this hobby both collecting and selling, I definitely don't need you telling me to "go watch in learn".  I think you're probably someone who has one of those garbage YouTube coin channels and you're trying to get views on it.  Either that, or you're simply doomed with coins because you love YouTube so much.  Nevertheless, it doesn't matter to me one bit because you're the one who's going to fail at this, not me.  Have fun losing a ton of money following the advice of those YouTube videos you seem to love so much.

You mean to tell me you think what I posted here is wrong. Listen real close.
Why don’t you see what kind of responses you get from you-tube folks and make sure you get a bunch of them to respond. Then slam them because you think you know better.
As mentioned your Ike’s are worth a dollar and no more.
I’d suggest you start with parking lot finds and stick with you-tube🙀

Well, that tells me what I need to know.  I won't be wasting my time on this thread any longer.  You go ahead and keep believing those YouTube videos and see where it gets you.  You've gotten good advice from the members here.  It's entirely your choice if you choose to follow it or not.

There is useful good information on youtube, and there is also a significant amount of misinformation there too.   It has less to do with outright lying, which there is some of, but more to do with getting you to click on their ads so they make money.   That is done by making sensational videos that promise you will get rich quick, like how rich you can get off of pocket change.  If it was that easy everyone would be doing it already.   What that does is make money for the guy or company that set up the video, it will not make you rich.
It is true that there are many coins that are worth many thousands and even hundreds of thousands of dollars, however you will not be finding those coins in your sock drawer like the videos claim you can.

That's sad to hear, because YT is full of buffalo bagels. It's a great place to get bad information, and yes, some of its people would and do lie. There doesn't seem to be any control over that.

It's not just China.....Israel and Russia have thriving counterfeit coin industries as well.  The fake Ottoman gold 100 Kurush I bought 11 years ago likely came out of Israel.  And that fake actually wasn't laughable......it was frighteningly good.  I was working at the coin shop then, and I ended up selling it to my boss for gold scrap.  He initially thought about keeping it for his counterfeit collection, but ultimately decided it had to be destroyed....it was that deceptive.  Many Chinese counterfeits are laughable but Israeli counterfeits are often frighteningly good.  Many more of them likely evade detection than Chinese counterfeits.

Sadly, that's very true.  And the more outlets to sell the fakes that pop up and the more stupid, useless, lying coin videos that pop up on YouTube, the better the fake coin business will do.
