NGC offered both NGC and PCGS coins in their Registry for a long time. PCGS never has.
I thought it inevitable that NGC would eventually make this change.
My only set's are in the NGC Registry.

I can think of one dealer specifically that has made a great deal of noise beating the PCGS is the "ONLY" way to collect and it darn well better have a "CAC" sticker.  ANYthing else is inferior and clearly not good enough.  .
Basically picking a segment of the market and packaging it a certain way and yelling from the rooftops it's their way or the highway (ie good enough vs. second rate).  Honestly drives me nuts.  Yes the material is gorgeous and high end, but guess what, no one gets to pick for me what/how/the level/the material I want to collect...and no, you don't get to tell me what is the 'right' way to enjoy MY HOBBY.
Honestly it feels slimy and reminds me of a slick talking annuities or whole life salesman trying to tell me that only he knows how to manage my money.  Um no, no one cares as much about my money as me and yes the returns will be great, but the great returns are those going into your pocket not mine.
Don't get me wrong, I love my PCGS coins, I love my NGC coins, I love my ANACs coins (and I even have a SEGS or ICG running around too).  What ties it all together are the COINS.  And my registry game is NGC as it suits my collection.
I've said it once and I'll say it again.  It makes SENSE for NGC to run an NGC only registry.  And the out of proportion ire if not outright fury I've seen directed at NGC is irritating.  Lets say company A sells puppies.  Company B sells puppies and kittens.  People see room for both companies.  But when company B decides to focus only on kittens suddenly there is outrage they 'only' sell kittens now.  Puppies are still available.  Kittens are still available.  Why should only one company be in trouble for being exclusive?  Shouldn't company A been feeling the same heat?  It's so odd.
And adopt from shelters/rescues/reputable breeders, spay and neuter.  Don't buy REAL puppies and kittens from stores.  This was just an example.  Shoot, go get an adult greyhound (or other dog and after doing your homework) or an adult cat.  Who needs puppies and kittens anyway...your rugs will thank you.

Actually, Coin Cave, for a cleaned US Large Cent, your coin looks pretty good.  Based on my experience at the brick and mortar shop, cleaned US Large Cents are often this screaming, almost neon orangish color.  Yours has retoned some and I think there's definitely hope for it. And it does have a nice strike.....I'd say it has more going for it than going against it.  Not a bad purchase if you're into US Large Cent varieties which you appear to be.

Exactly right, Travis.  TON....what Ben found would be pretty significant, but it would be very helpful to know exactly what he did to arrive at a 90% silver composition.  That would be quite a significant off-metal error but, and I may be wrong on this, I am unsure of how a 90% planchet would be made in 1975 and 1976 when these were struck.  So, with the knowledge I have at present, I cannot figure out how a 90% Silver Ike would be made and how it is as lightweight as it is because silver coins are heavier than copper nickel clad coins of the same size.  Maybe someone on here with an in depth knowledge of the US Mint and its products and production methods knows some things that I do not about what the US Mint was doing at this time in history that would make a 90% silver strike possible.  Knowing the exact test would definitely be helpful here because this is a weird one, no doubt about it.

Just because your fake does not look like others you have seen doesn't automatically put it in the running to be a genuine example.  The 1804 dollar has been faked for a very long time by many different people in many different places.  Take a look at the picture Bob posted and carefully compare your example to it......you'll see some differences.

Actually, I should have been more clear there Mark and I do apologize.  I'm applauding Bill for not buying into the CAC hype and being willing to openly share his thoughts on it and for bowing out of playing the CAC game.  I was applauding this part here:
I think that I've been so sick of the whole sticker hype that I was just so glad to see another collector who was as fed up with it as I am.  I meant no disrespect to Coinbuf as a person at all and I apologize that it may have come off that way.  But I do despise the sticker game and I despise CAC for creating it and I have a hard time with the CAC cheerleaders because I honestly feel that CAC has done a lot more harm than good to the hobby.  And, I think that Coinbuf would be the first to admit that he's highly pro-CAC.  Bill was willing to stand against the tide of CAC lovers and against a company who has done a lot to ruin for him an area of collecting that he previously really enjoyed.  Bill was willing to share an opinion which may not be popular among many collectors and he stood by it.  That's what I was applauding.  I happen to share his feelings on CAC and I really wish that they, and others, were not stickering anything.
So, I was writing quickly with my heart here when I should have explained myself better.  I do apologize and I hope that I've clarified myself properly here.
And, yes, this may be a dead horse kind of issue.  CAC is here, for better or worse.  Some people love them, some hate them.  I just happen to be in the latter camp.

If the coin is over graded, JA should not put a sticker on it. What is it about that concept that you can't understand? CAC is supposed to protect collectors from over graded materal.
I get it. You are a CAC Kool Aid drinker. You probably have a vested interest in pushing the product because you are either a CAC authorized dealer, have invested heavily in CAC graded coins or both. Others have tried to brow beat me into becoming a CAC cheerleader, so what you are doing is nothing new.
I'm out. Enjoy your Kool Aid, but don't expect me to join you. The game is over for me. The table that was supporting the Kool Aid stand split down the middle for me a couple of years ago.

Bill....though I was never a collector of US coins during the CAC era, I completely agree with you 100% about the absolute ridiculousness of CAC.  I can't stand any of the stickers.  It's really sad to me what CAC has done to the market.......look at your experience.  The whole CAC ridiculousness ruined an area of collecting for you that you enjoyed for years!  When did we get to a point where we have to grade the graders? And, in a few years, are we going to be stickering the stickers?  Where does the craziness end?  Too many people have bought into the hype with the stickers and, on the US side of things, with the PCGS only mindset which has now turned into PCGS+CAC only.  Thankfully, I'm mostly collecting raw Roman denarii of Empress Faustina the Younger and her daughter Lucilla, so CAC does not impact what I do one bit......and that's a great thing!  I'm glad that you found an area to collect in that CAC hasn't impacted as well.......let's just hope that it stays that way!!

You sound like a bitter ex every time you bring this CAC stuff up lol.  So your mad that one man dictates the market (at least in your opinion) yet you allow that one man to dictate what you buy??  You do realize just how silly this sounds right?

Agreed on all points.  Common Morgans in MS 63 and even some in MS 64 are very affordable and easy to find.....I'd go the exact route mumu is recommending.  It's good to have raw coins in your collection as well as graded for many reasons.  My entire currently small Roman collection is all raw and it's been a ton of fun to really get up close with them, both with a loupe and with the naked eye.......it's allowed me to really get to know the coins and learn their diagnostics, which in turn has helped me learn to spot fakes.
