What's your favorite commemorative post pictures of yours! 1 1

I have been looking at a lot of the 50c commemoratives for a while now and decided to purchase two after much contemplation. I really want to buy a nice original Lafayette but they seem to be few and far between. I wonder why.

Regardless this is with no doubt my favorite and it is my intention to complete an entire date set in high grade, Oregon Trail.

Well, you didn't specify it had to be a classic commemorative. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I'm not much for the classic or even many of the modern commemoratives, just not my cup of tea.   But if I had to choose a classic commemorative it would be the Columbian, I like the ship on the rev.

Really nice coins guys the toning is just superb. The ones posted so far are very attractive.I agree with you about the commemoratives I obviously really like the Oregon Trail, Lafayette and Stone Mountain. A lot of them are just blah but how can you not really enjoy that indian and covered wagon it's just amazing in my opinion!

Not sure it's really a commemorative since the government didn't put it out....but the National Park Foundation's Augustus Saint-Gaudens coins are something I like. 

This one is based on the Saint-Gaudens Winged Liberty design that was a precursor to the eventual designs that make up the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle.

I really like some of the classics. Daniel Boone and Orgeon Trail probably my favorites from that era. Its really hard to choose. I like the Gold panning one also. However I dont own any classics. The oldest I have is the 1982 George Washington half dollar. Out of all the ones I own my favorite is the 2008 Bald Eagle graded NGC pf70. I really like eagles. We hardley ever see them in our area. Maybe 1 a year if that. They are getting more populated but still not very common. At one time they was unheard of in our area. My dad passed away in 2019 at 60 years old. I was heartbroken and very depressed. I took it really hard. We was very close. We was leaving to go to the funeral home the day we was going to bury him and soon as we got to the end of our little one lane road one swooped in maybe 20 feet from us. It flew up in a tree maybe 25 to 30 feet over our head and sit on a branch and just stared at us for quite a long time. We got out and took pictures of it and everything and it never flew off. Kinda helped brighten up a very sad day a little bit. Now everytime I see an eagle around it reminds me of that day and makes me think of my dad and gets me to thinking about the good memories we shared together over the years. Thats actually the reason I bought this coin. I put it in my collection and dedicated it to him. That may sound kinda corney to some but others may get it. 

Heres the eagle and heres the coin I bought because of it. Its probably my all time favorite commerative followed by a few of the classics. But the 2008 eagle ranks #1 for me. I really love the design of the obverse and reverse both. I really like the detail the designer put into it. The reverse reminds me of a classic type look. Sorry for the glare on the pictures. Those deep mirror proofs are hard to photo.

I chuckled when i saw your post. Hoghead probable had one too. Reminded me of my career-oriented occupation as a worker on the Railroad .  Hoghead was a term for Engineers  or the person operating the locomotive.

I can't say for sure which is my favorite, I like all of them.  Including this one.

Here's another one of the NPF Commemoratives for ASG.  

An actual $10 Indian Head Eagle has the reverse from that coin I posted above which has the obverse that was never used (basically, Lady Liberty as in the Saint obverse but with the headdress and wings).

This coin combines the Indian Head obverse with the Saint reverse.  I much prefer the eagle in flight as opposed to standing up.
