  1. Firstly, welcome to the Forums! I see you're pretty new. Great catch on the coin, but as Kailee mentioned, I agree that the coin was probably reholdered. As for your question, the cost to reholder will be $12 per coin plus return shipping, insurance and handling as long as the coins are valued $10,000 or less per coin. NGC customers may submit coins already certified by NGC for reholdering to request a different NGC label. The fee for reholdering single coins with a different NGC certification label is $13 per coin. Hope this helps! ~Happy Hunting! TheColoradoNumismatist
  2. I love this coin so much. It reminds me of looking up into the sky, and a sea of stars. The reverse a subtle sunrise or sunset, so a little poem created for this coin. "A beautiful day, a starry night, Nature's canvas, a wondrous sight. The sun's warm rays, the moon's soft glow, A perfect blend, a heavenly show." ~ TheColoradoNumismatist
  3. Hey everyone! So, I have a local Indoor Flea Market that's right down the block from me. I'm really cool with the owners and a guy who works there and also owns a booth there. They have tons of vendors. One of the booths is a coin, note and bullion booth. So, I'm not too familiar with 3c pieces but they have a 2-coin set, nothing particular just two random coins. But here is the thing, I did not have my phone with me to check prices so I wrote down the years, couldn't see mints but one of the coins is an 1853 Silver 3c piece type 1 small star. That coin is worth a pretty decent amount even in low grades. I can't give an estimate on a grade the lighting was poor I'm going to go back tomorrow to try and do that. Now the second one was the Copper-Nickel 1867 3c piece. Not terrible condition for either of the coins. But I don't think it really matters the condition of the coins because they're letting the two go for 54.00 USD. I would be dumb not to go grab those tomorrow, right? ~ Happy Hunting TheColoradoNumismatist P.S. I will be adding pictures of the coin's tomorrow, given I have permission.
  4. Hey there! So, one of my topics was tagged in this thread. But I think before we or I can even start making recommendations, what is it you're actually trying to achieve? Once I know what that is I can make a few recommendations. So let us know! Look forward to hearing from you soon! Happy Hunting ~ TheColoradoNumismatist
  5. @robec1347 I found you on here as well! So not only on Coin Talk! But check out @FriendlyEagle79 lens hood that is modded to be an axial lighting setup! That is wild and so creative! Robec is a great photographer. @Revenant do you have any posts or journal entries that show your current Ring-Light Setup? I'm sure I could do a simple Google search and find it relatively easy, but I like to see people's homemade setups! Thank you all for the input and the comments and advice. I love all the Numismatic communities so much. Now I need to work with my different lenses and see what works best for my setup. I have a 0.43x Wide Angle Lens with Macro 58mm, it's a little screw on lens that attaches to other lenses. I also have four other little lens caps if you will? They're 1x, 2x, 4x and a 10x. So, I got my work cut out ahead of me. That also means finding lighting, either utilizing the axial lighting or finding other types of lighting which both may be best. Then working on camera settings. I don't want to just use the Auto Mode, or the Macro Setting. I was suggested to pick up a book by I believe his name was Mark Goodman possibly. Either way this is the start of my journey and glad to have some people in my corner. Happy Snapping & Hunting ~ TheColoradoNumismatist
  6. Welcome to my first Journal Entry! I've been wanting to do this for a long time now but didn't know what to put. I know that's what journals are for in the first place is just to write, a way to get stuff off that wet pink ball of noodles in your head. Maybe I should've been here way earlier? Either way, here we are now let's get to the meat and potatoes of why we are here now! So I may tend to hyper fixate onto new things every now and then. I have always been an artist, as a young kid I was very good at drawing but I'm not sure where that has since gone. But this year I found beautiful photos of coins showcasing their extraordinary characteristics. I'm talking about colors I never knew possible to be on coins! The Blues, The Reds, The Purples, Greens, Yellows, Golds, and everything in-between and above and below! I thought to myself, "WOW! How silly.. There's no way that a coin can actually look like that, that's the saturation turned WAAAY up to get those effects." Well I sure was wrong. I found myself stumbling into a world of coin's I'd never ventured into. I did not know just how amazing some coin's could really tone. Then I went down into a rabbit hole of how to store coins for certain types of toning effects and etc. But I didn't care too much for those over the edge, overly fake looking tones. Nonetheless I wanted to be able to capture images of those types of coins for myself! Now did I have any coins in the first place that were as miraculous some of the pictures I had seen? No.. But! I do search lots of bank rolls, mainly quarters and some Lincoln cents. So I have the ability to run into some pretty coins! Now this whole wanting to become a coin photographer idea literally just bloomed out of one of my journeys on the internet. It didn't really fall into place until I seen a camera and accessory kit on Wal-Marts website. My budget also tells me this is not possible and just let it become a fantasy. Well who knew my wife's credit could qualify us for Affirm which is a get now pay later financing program that Wal-Mart and tons of other places use! So... I got it.. Wow I'm sorry my whole ADHD way of telling stories is or just thought process is all over the place. Ah! Yes! So we got it! "It" is a Canon EOS Rebel T7 with a whole kit and caboodle. Just tons of stuff this kit came with which was a plus. Now I have only ever taken photos with my cell phone or a normal digital camera, NOTHING like this. So I'm still learning and playing with it I think I've owned it for a little over a month now. It's great I absolutely love it and love learning new things so it's been a great journey. Well now I got the camera, do I have those beautifully toned coins to take these amazing photos of? Negative. Or what about the know how or the setup to even do it? Erm, yeah no we don't.. But there we went back into the interwebs! Also we got some really great info from a user known by the name of Robec, he may be here but I met him on Coin Talk's Chat Boards. This is where I fell into another problem. The setups that some of these people had to get these amazing over the top photos costed a small fortune! I mean some of these Copy-Stands themselves can run upwards of THOUSANDS of dollars! *There's the main topic of this journal entry!* Then not just the stands but the lights, the editing software, the macro lenses, the objective lenses, the focusing bellows holy cow I was in over my head! BUT! You can get some really great photos using what you got and I tell you what, if there's something I'm really good at its working with what you got you know what I mean guys? *Hehehe* So I just went back to the basics and started with the stand. You need a stand to get your camera held in the right position, held steady, and a number of other factors. So I began brainstorming and came up with what is now my new Copy-Stand. I was going to say it's not the prettiest but honestly I really like the look of it. So its a 3/4", 16"x 12" particle board. A 3/4" Pipe Flange, 12" 3/4" Pipe topped with a End Cap. I then gave it the 'Ole Rattle-Can Special in Flat Black. I looks really great! Now I needed something to hold my camera into place! I found a photography company called, "SmallRig". SmallRig - DIY Camera Rigs, Stabilizers and Other Camera Accessories What I ended up buying is a smart clamp, I also got it off Amazon too. I was really happy when I got it in the mail today and unboxed it to find the quality of the product is outstanding. Its made of sturdy metal, when all setup and the cameras attached and its fitted onto the pipe its snug as a bug. The next thing to work on is getting lights either mounted or just around because I'm sure I'll need to move them around a ton. Here's what it looks like all said and done: Thanks if you made it this far in reading my all over the place story telling. It's how my brain works. Feel free to show what contraptions you all have created. Any advice given is always great. Until my next Ramble! Happy Hunting ~ TheColoradoNumismatist
  7. Here you go this is what I could find for you on the NGC FAQ's: NGC has a wide variety of labels available to all submitters. Some special labels are used automatically for certain coins for no additional fee, while others must be requested (and may require an additional fee). Visit the NGC Labels resource and look for labels that are marked "Available for All Submitters." Elite NGC Collector members and NGC Authorized Dealers have access to additional labels for bulk submissions. These labels are marked "Available for Bulk Submissions" in the NGC Labels resource. Other NGC labels may only be available from select retailers. These labels are marked "Available from Select Retailers," "Available from [Name of Dealer]" or are not listed on the NGC Labels resource. Hope this help's in some way! 8. I really LOVE this presentation of this coin. I'm not sure if you were one of the members that replied on my post I created about Coin Photography, but I'm new to it, and would really love to know more about this coin. More so the picture and not the actual coin, what editing software was used, things of that nature if you would happen to know that information? Thanks Again, Happy Hunting ~ TheColoradoNumismatist
  9. Thank you for the advice! I thought the kit was pretty decent myself hence the purchase! Since this post has been made, I have watched a lot of YouTube videos on how to use Manual Mode on a camera. There is a lot to learn! Especially because there's a lot of factors that have different side affects but can be used to achieve the same results for example, 80% of the different variables that you can mess with in Manual Mode; shutter speed, ISO, etc. directly affect the brightness of the photo. But if you use too much of this or that you get this! So it's going to take a lot of tinkering around and just bringing the Camera with me to places I go and get familiarized with a certain setting and be like, well I know for this specific setting (Sunny, bright, landscape, etc.) I like to use these settings. Thank you for your advice too! The LINK provided was a lovely article that I will need to read multiple times and go back and use as a reference so it's earned a spot in my Bookmarks! I couldn't agree more! I can read article after article and not learn NEAR as much as actually that HANDS ON approach! I understood this very well as I am a father of a set of two year old twins, a four year old, and a six year old... ALL boys too! We just hit the homework stage with our oldest and this statement just hit me right where I could understand. Thank you ALL! And as always... Happy Hunting! ~ TheColoradoNumismatist
  10. ~Coin Photography~ So I have recently purchased a Canon Rebel T7 18-55MM Kit. This came with all the bell's and whistles. Here's what we got. Canon EOS Rebel T7 DSLR Camera EF-S 18-55 IS II Lens Canon Brand Camera Battery & Charger Shoulder Strap TeeZee Tech Kit: 58mm Professional 4 PC HD Macro Close-Up Lenses +1/+2/+4/+10 58mm 0.43x HD Professional Wide Angle Lens with Macro 58mm Pro Series 2.2x HD Telephoto Lens Pro Series HS 3Pc. Digital Filter Set: Ultraviolet Filter, Circular Polarizer Filter, Fluorescent Filter Really Nice Shoulder Camera and Lens Case Rapid Travel Charger Replacement Camera Battery 2, 64Gb Memory Cards 2.0 USB Card Reader Tripod Screen Protectors Table Tripod mount A Few Other Thing's As Well So yeah, we got quite a lot of stuff that came with our camera. Now, the only really camera that I've had before this was just all my different cell phones over the years which right now is the iPhone 13 Pro. So don't get me wrong my iPhone takes great photos.. But I just wanted something more. I looked on Facebook market places for people letting go of cameras for cheap and then took to the internet and through some basic searches for beginner DSLR's came across the Canon EOS Rebel lineup. So next we went to the Wal-Mart website, mainly because of the Affirm financing option, and we came across this set. So this is what we decided to buy. I've had this camera for 1 full day now so not long at all and let me tell you, this camera is FAR more advanced than your normal point and press cameras or cell phone cameras! So there's been a lot of YouTube watching on familiarizing myself with this camera and all the settings and how the manual modes work. I'm not just trying to use this camera to snap pretty photos of coins of course so that's why this camera is good for all thing's. But what I would like to know is: Who's taking photos of their coins? What setup are you using? (Camera, Lens, light box?) What settings are you using? Can you help me? Haha! So yeah, here I am, Nice camera and a VERY basic knowledge on the camera itself. So Photographers! Please use this new post as a thread to help out new photographers and on how we can take the best photos, without giving away too many trade secrets! Thanks in advance everyone, look forward to talking to you all very soon! Happy Hunting ~ TheColoradoNumismatist
  11. Sorry those are both Large Dates @Stockwiz78 I took the time out of my day, and took pictures of an 1982 Lincoln Cent Set that I have that shows all SEVEN different varieties of that coin. But here's two pictures to help show you what you have. Hope this clears it up for you. The close up pictures, the one with the Dot to the right of the "D" Denver Mint Mark is the Small Date. 12. The Confidence this individual has! The things I could've accomplished in life thus far if I had this individuals confidence would've been momentous! It is actually by definition insanity that this person believes that's what he actually has upon being told numerous times, been given multiple sources to help educate him and STILL has the drive to be here STILL trying to sell them has me absolutely belly laughing and crying at the same time. I 100% am with you on this, I'm just afraid of how many brain cells are actually dying from just reading his posts! But yes we can not allow someone to get conned into buying these or another item of his that is misidentified. I'd hope that people buying thing's would at least have some common sense into what they're buying but some are just new numismatists but we can't be there holding this guy's hand through EVERY post of his. Unfortunately now-a-days we can not be so sure. There's all types of folks out there that are, how do we say this without being canceled... Less fortunate than others.. All I can say here is GODSPEED.... ~ TheColoradoNumismatist
  13. I do see the possible MD too its just too close to tell. So yes, we wait for a reply from James which he's usually really fast to respond. If all goes well and he thinks I should send it in I have another coin, a 2022-D Bessie Coleman that he said he believes is a new Doubled Die Variety I've just not had the time to send it in. But yes I look forward to being here and learning from everyone. Happy Hunting ~ TheColoradoNumismatist
  14. Great Entry Bob! I'm new when it comes to the forum, any forum for that matter. So upon finding this I've learned a significant piece of knowledge just in this ONE Journal Entry. I should be keeping copies of EVERYTHING! (Not just coin related things but all things) This will help keep me organized. (I hope) I need to write my own Journal Entries because my wife's tired of hearing me already + we're all hobbyists of the same here. So for now it's time for me to hit the hay myself but I'm going to push myself to make a FIRST Journal Entry (Hopefully a start of MANY). Until then, thank's for sharing! Happy Hunting ~ TheColoradoNumismatist
  15. So @Coinbuf I feel as we may have got off on the wrong foot since my first and only post so far about the 2005-P Nickel and I'm really not a hard headed stubborn guy as you may think. But as you may have seen I've done some research, profile stalking if you may, and I really am eager to learn the hobby and am always seeking more knowledge. Especially in this. I'm loving the photo journal entries as I am still learning everything this forum has to offer. I love photos of coins as I can really only use my scope and phone which is a iPhone 13 Pro.
