  1. Nice SLQ Lee.

I mean, I don't find the toning all that distracting myself but even if one did luster under the toning could alleviate much of the distraction. Luster can "cure" a lot of issues such as weak strike or surface issues from an eye appeal POV.

Reading back what I wrote I didn't say things right.

I actually really like the coin and its not distracting to me at all. I was just letting Joe know how you can look at things a little differently.

    :)

Actually, my reference to "distracting" was sort of directed to jpcienkus...not your later post.

  2. Thanks physics fan and deerefan for making me feel like a newb all over again!! And for the helpful link and pictures. I paid about 90% of book. Think I should return it?? Thanks again guys, really appreciate your time.

    Sincerely, Nate

It depends on whether you like the coin. I'm going thru this right at the moment on a coin and sometimes you have to balance what you paid vs. do you like it enough...etc. etc. No one can tell you whether to return a coin or not. You have to decide for yourself.

There was a thread ATS discussing this seller and his juiced coins.

To be fair they are juiced photos not (necessarily) juiced coins...or at least I hope not. :o

  3. Nice one Matt.

On the NGC 64+ with toning you saw: Why wouldn't you "touch" it? Was it because of the toning? In such cases it will depend but many times that could be a sign of originality.

With this series you need to be careful of a couple of things. One is the use of putty. It can be hard to detect but once you see it and figure out how to look for it it becomes easier.

Another issue are the blemishes you mention. If you do find a coin without nicks and hits don't necessarily jump at it...often lack of luster remains a problem. Another words don't just look for clean surfaces...

The one you posted looks nice due to gold toning (slight) around the coin. Based on the photo it looks like a winner! 14-D, although fairly common, can come nice. As does 11-P and 13-P from what I recall.

  4. Some Great looking coins everyone!!! :applause:

There are too many nice ones to specifically mention anyone, but I particularly like the Washies and Frankies, and the Mercury/Telstar medal was interesting. (thumbs u

No pix yet, but I was in a local B&M wednesday when a person came in with a bunch of albums. After he sold them and left, I went through them. I am not per se a Roosevelt collector, but I bought an old Whitman album of the 1946 - 1964 Roosevelt series. The album is missing 5 date/mm (’51-D, ’55, ’58, ‘59, ’60), out of the total 1946 - 1964 run of 48 date/mm. The Roosies were BU. Five of the Roosies have toning that draws your eyes when you open the album, ’47, ’49-S, ’55-D, ’55-S and ’63, while another 10 - 15 have pleasant toning. It was a fun WTF purchase.

They are fun purchases. I did the same at a Long Beach some years ago. I think the set cost me $100 but there were a bunch of nicely toned ones. Those sets seem to still be around a lot....
