  1. Fascinating thread here....I'm glad it has been mostly civil.

As I stated above these kind of premiums I tend to avoid since I'd probably be happy with an MS65.

HOWEVER, what most seem to ignore is seeing the coin IN HAND. Maybe it's got some super duper luster that renders the marks insignificant? Until one sees it you don't really know.

Wondercoin has given a great story about the series that if fun to read. But whether or not people on a forum who've never seen the coin think it's actually an MS68 is rather irrelevant. The one person who matters is the one who is going to upfront the $10K to buy the coin.

I can only assume anyone with that kind of money to spend on a coin would know what they are doing. If not, well that's their own fault for not doing their due diligence. I mean, if they don't know the series well they really have no business paying that money in the first place.

  2. To me the coin is just overpriced (due to the grade obviously). I don't even care if the coin WAS an MS68...I won't pay premiums like that. I'd be satisfied with a $100 MS66. Since there are a gazillon of them I'm sure I could find one I like better even if in a lower grade.

In the 24 years I've been doing this I've always it baffling why people pay those huge premiums for such a small difference in grade ...and this was before Registry Sets. To each their own I guess.

  3. Well this is the first hole I've filled in this set in a couple years, I guess that blows my budget too!

C'mon...you need to give details. Is that a mint mark I see? Grade? hm Looks nice...

Yes, it has a D mintmark and resides in a PCGS green label holder graded MS-62.

Excellent...I like the orangish/pink color. Is that true or is it just the photo? hm

    Congrads.

Thanks Jom. I won that coin on e-Bay, an auction that ended very in the morning. I was thee only bidder and landed this Buff for dirt money. I was absolutely amazed when I opened the package.

    It really is a beauty.

    Thanks again, Joe

I didn't mention the coin has a great strike as well for the date....although it was the color I liked at first. I wish I can find crazy deals like that.... :(

  5. Isnt CAC really just another way to quantify without using numbers the same idea that I presented except that in his system he's using 1/3rds (A, B and C). And really what does a + grade mean ? Is that mean a MS65+ is not quite an MS66 but its nicer then a MS65 ? But how much nicer ?

CAC ignores the "+" sign so presumably an "A" coin is the same as a "+".

How much nicer is a "+" coin than normal? I don't know...I don't see much difference most of the time which is why I think PLUS grading (and any other ideas of adding precision) is superfluous.
