This was very helpful information. I had the same confusion as the OP. Maybe you could add this to the NGC web page for the imaging service.
Related question: Why do some certification pages get these extra pictures of the un-encapsulated coin with it and some don't?
Like this: https://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/2906215-002/65/
or this: https://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/2915162-001/58/Hello hr1704. These appears to be on NGC coins where imaging was selected. I'm just now seeing it on coins I submitted and paid for imaging and am pretty happy about it. I thought NGC just sent these photos to the original submitter. I'm pleased to see they are now shown in cert look-up! If true, this is big news in my opinion.

I was given one as I walked into a gas station somewhere in Texas during a two day drive. I think I looked pretty rough and some kind soul thought I was down on my luck or needed some guidance.

If the submitter paid for variety attribution and it's a known NGC accepted variety, it should get the FS number.

Thank you Sandon and everyone for your responses. I'll keep the coin as is with a label maker note of DDR FS-801. I was only considering the attribution/sell route if the premium was very significant. Sandon, the dealer names you shared are very helpful and I may reach out to one if I decide to sell.

Seated halves are not my main collecting interest. I picked this up for a 19th century type set. One of the things that attracted me to it was the doubling on the reverse and the small die crack in "OF". There is no variety on the slab and it was not marketed as a DDR or any variety. PCGS graded it as AU50.
Can anyone confirm my opinion that it's FS-801?
Can anyone comment on the rarity/price of the variety in this grade? Is it worth getting reslabbed with the variety confirmed by a TPG?
Thanks for any input.

I can't decide if that's from a very confused person or a very bad AI chat box.

Yes, but that's a nickel folder.

An article posted on 1/5/2024 and entitled "Congratulations to the 2023 NGC Registry Award Winners," explains everything in detail.and may be found by accessing it under NEWS via the NGC Menu tab on the home page.
The third paragraph reads... ""Winners in ...major NGC Registry Award categories receive a personalized plaque, an icon of recognition next to their [virtual] NGC Registry Set and a $500 NGC grading credit. We awarded more prizes than ever for 2023 with a total value of more than $36,000!"
The plaque is nice, the coin was nice, and the $500 grading credit...well, who wouldn't like that?
I see no downside to the registry. No one is forced to participate.

Hello. Is there a reason why this token is not listed in the census? Can it be added?

You are correct Coinbuf. Things have changed but not that much. You can't book a sale until you've earned it. Simply offering something for sale does not constitute an inventory transfer or a service provided.

Not long ago near me $99k of gold coins were taken: https://6abc.com/fedex-theft-jordan-hamilton-gold-coins/14052264/
The last delivery to me went OK other than it being several days late. I previously had several instances of them leaving it on my step even though it was "signature required".

My opinion was PR66 or even R67. I'll split the difference at PR66+
