I was never good at that....I'm basically an Excel beginner.
Are you talking about the spreadsheet and Hyperlink function on your phone or PC ?
In the spreadsheet on the pc. I haven't done on my phone, I built everything on the computer. I haven't done it in a while, but I think you can highlight a cell, right click it, and it should give you the option to "add Hyperlink ". You can just play around with that and see what all it does.

You just use the same login name and password as you use to login to the forums.
Actually, this is incorrect Bobby, raw coins can be input into the old system. They just cannot be seen in any sets (competitive or custom) and are only visible to the owner of the coin. At the initial input screen when you use the drop down box for grading service there is as the last option RAW, it works I have done it. That is not to say it is a better option than a spreadsheet, I use both, but it is an option.
I never knew that. Thank you!

Another thing I forgot to add is that you can use what is called a Hyperlink. You can use it to attach pictures to your coins in the excel worksheet. You hover your mouse over it and your pic pops up showing your coin or any pic you have associated with that coin.

First off, the registry can only take slabbed coins. So it won't work for logging in raw coins. I'm the same, I create an excel spreadsheet. Broke it down into types such as bullion, cents, halves etc.... and the added columns for dates, denominations, any costs that I remembered etc..... With excel you really make as many categories and columns as you like. It can be a little time consuming but in the end it's worth it. You can rows as you add coins or delete as you sell. Or just highlight it with a color that you like to indicate sold. Soo much you can do. And as EagleRJO mentioned, save it as a pdf and send to phone for reference. I actually have excel on my phone so I can update right on the spot if needed.

For a few hundred $$$ today, you can get a fully-computerized scope (4-6") with decent optics that you lock on to 2 or 3 stars...and then can slew to any of thousands of objects pre-programmed.
So many people lost interest in astronomy over the decades because they couldn't find anything with their scopes. No longer a problem !
Yep, I have a C90 4" scope also that I only paid $100 for. I also bought a skywatcher mount for about $400 but all computerized for about $500.

Here's an example that popped up ATT (across the tracks).

Both photos are awful, but the photographer was trying for improvement and the visibility of detail is much improved.
Exposure is a big problem. It's been a while since I have been able to take pics with my Canon, but I can remember having it in program mode and playing with exposure for hours just trying to get something that looks like what my eyes see. Lol Even then, after uploading pics from the camera to the PC, I still seen differences from what I seen on the camera. I can bet that most people who have and use dslr's have no clue all of the options that are available in the camera. I'm one of them. My Canon is probably 10 yrs old now and it still has stuff I don’t fully understand. My cousin does some very nice photography with people. Sometimes when he talks about camera settings it just flys over my head. Lol

They look good. All I've ever done with my coins in photoshop is crop and put backgrounds to them.

You're probably right, Karen.......but we have some super-knowledgeable folks here so I thought I would pick their brains on PQ and stuff like that.
I have some smart guys in my astronomy club but I'm just into viewing, not imaging and photographs.
Post duped. Lol

I've tried taking pics on my cpc8. I have the attachments for my canon. My problem is having to look at my lcd screen to see if everything is in focus. My eyes aren't so good anymore. Lol I've taken a few pics but nothing to brag about. Lol

Sometimes the zoom isn't always good. My phone is set to highest resolution (3000×4000). I'm pretty sure this is 4k quality. I know the video takes in 8k quality. Sometimes you can just set the camera to highest resolution with no zoom and be able to zoom the picture in with better quality.

It will be interesting if you can find an older pic. Looks like toning that is progressing to black to me also.

I need something to hold my phone still and then some way to adjust the coin under it a certain way. And adjust the light. Im gonna start trying the 2 lamp trick. I think it was @VKurtBwho mentioned it a while back on here. Take 2 lamps with incandesent light bulbs adjusted on each side of the coin. Ive also been looking at picture boxes on Amazon you can buy to take photos of coins and jewlery in. Probably wouldnt be hard to build one.
PS: Dont tell no one I got those light bulbs. ive got 2 or 3 from moms old house. Dont want them to come lock me up for burning a hole in the ozone layer trying to get pictures of coins.
The stand works pretty good. The stand moves from side to side. Then there is the little tilt table at top for placing the coin. It moves back and forth also. I actually made a little gif on it a while back. Lol

Is the Canon state-of-the-art and you had same resolution quality on both ?
The more vibrant color (realistic, IMO) of the smartphone is clear....and the increased sharpness and detail seen in the smartphone pics is very clear to me. Look at the details on the smartphone pic on the neclace, the headdress coming over the left ear, or the feathers. The Canon looks like VHS-quality or DVD-quality while the S22+ looks like a Blu-Ray or 4K.
Well my camera is a Canon Rebel T4i. That picture is off of my phone which I had to steal from a former post of mine somewhere. Lol All my coin pics are on my computer, which was packed away the last year while we moved, sold house and just bought another house. We don't have wifi out here right now either. Not sure if that pic may have degraded a little during the process of originally posting it, later copying it to phone and now cropping and reposting. Lol

Be careful @Hoghead515You can really get into a lot of money dealing with cameras and equipment. Definitely not worth the money for just taking coin pics. Unless you can make a living at it. Thats why I haven't had any interest in upgrading from my Canon t4i. It does what I want it to do and thats enough for me.

I've been waiting for this technology for years. JK, pics look great BH.
Did you do anything to the coin to facilitate toning, or just standard storage?
It was in my dansco since 2013. I moved it a while back, maybe 2 yrs ago, and just stored it in my coin cabinet. Replaced it in the dansco. It's been toning over the years.

You know, I've known you for yrs on this forum. You use to provide very good information and opinions. You seem to have gotten grumpier in your old age and changed your information from informative to sarcastic! Such a shame!!!!!

So I updated answer in first post. I do have to admit tho, my canon captured the color much better but the phone captured a more detailed shot. I can live with both tho'.

So I liked hearing @RWB comments about phone cameras. So I decided to see who can tell what technology was used in these pics. One I took a few years ago with my Canon Rebel EOS T4i, with OTT lights and camera stabilized on a copy stand. I know there are better cameras now but is still a very good camera. The other was just taken with my samsung s22+. The only thing I did was crop them. So what is your answer. Done with camera or done with phone? Btw, both were taken thru the slab.
#1. Canon Rebel
#2. Sumsung S22+

Thanks BSS !! Can I also black-out the bar code from the phone; would make it easy not having to zoom in and crop the photo (from the phone or Paint) if I want to show the label and grade without the bar code.
Not sure on your phone. Should have an option to use a pen to color blackout or and eraser to cover. Will just have to play with your options on a misc picture.

It is what it is Roger. We were stuck in our 5th wheel for over a yr after moving, selling our house and finally buying another. I had to learn how to do all my business on my phone. Different technology doesn't always mean better. My cousin is a photographer. Has a very expensive camera setup. Still has to use software to make them look better. I can't use my canon camera to make a mobile deposit to my bank. Lol I've worked hard all my life, nothing wrong with using new technology to make some things easier my friend!
