  1. Sorry if I stated any of that wrong. There’s nothing wrong with anyone selling their coins especially if it’s to buy another one you like to ad to your collection. Im sure I’ll sell a coin here or there myself if a friend comes along and shows interest in it and Im not personally connected to it. Im just saying those that get into coin collecting only to make money off them seem to be the ones to try and pull the wool over your eyes. Most times it’s the ones who want to believe they have something so much that they ignore good advice that they don’t 😂
  2. Place it back in circulation and I’ll find it later thanks👍🏻 Lol no but really I got enough war nickels. I’m after the fake one but really wouldn’t mind finding one. What I'd really like to find is that 6th die nickel that hasn’t been discovered yet if it’s even a different year and not a duplicate from one of the other five. Just for kicks I weigh every nickel from 38 to 54 regardless if it’s got a mint mark or not. Which brings me to more questions about the Hennings nickel that I’d like someone in here that’s familiar with it. Like I know he didn’t ad the mint mark at the top of Monticello which is what got him caught but did any of his nickels from the five dies he had have a mint mark at all to the right of Monticello? Did he make these dies or obtain them somehow from the mint that’s why they were all older years or is that still in question on how he got them? Sorry if these sound like stupid questions knowing the story is out there for me to look up again. I think when I read about it it was a very short article and there wasn’t much to go off from.
  3. I’ve been wanting to find a coin worth sending in for grading. I obviously don’t want to send something worth less then what the price of grading it is. Because there’s so many factors in the grading process I don’t know exactly what one of them coins would have to look like other then nicer then maybe one I’ve already seen slabbed but even that’s confusing because I wouldn’t grade some of those coins that I’ve seen them graded at but I’m no expert so my opinion on that is very little. I’m posting 3 nickels that I’ve found in the past couple months. Would anyone of you send any of these in if you had them in your collection? Are they worth a shot at a good grade and put in a slab or are they just blah in the coin collecting world?
  4. Nope not me either. I started my hobby because it’s fun for me. Even if I found the holy grail of coins I wouldn’t run to the nearest auction house to sell it. I definitely would send it in for authentication and grading and put it away for my niece and nephew. Which ever one shows my interest in this hobby will obviously be the one to take it over hopefully respectfully without the greed or sell it if they have to. But none of this is to make money myself.
  5. On my coin I know you said the toning is normal for coins that old. I’m not doubting you I’ve just never seen it out of all the nickels I’ve searched through. It looks like it’s been sitting on a smokers table for years to get that yellowish tone to it🤣
  6. I see those crazy prices on Esty every time a Google a coin. I don’t buy coins from eBay it was just something I came across researching the one I had. My main thing is finding anything I want. If I can’t find it then I wasn’t meant to have it. To many shysters out there trying to make a buck. A hobby is supposed to be relaxing and enjoying not a stress over money kind of thing.
  7. Yeah probably not or why a 1964 D at that. My guess is someone sold it on eBay as a nice shiny uncirculated piece to a sucker who recirculated it. I don’t believe it was plated even though I know nothing about plating any thing I’m just assuming if it was then the copper wouldn’t be showing. I wish people would just leave sh-t alone and stop getting us coin roll hunters all hyped up thinking we found the holy grail of coins🤣
  8. I spotted this in a roll. I thought by the shin it was something important lol. It’s just a 1964 D someone polished up. I’m just wondering how or what they used. It’s obviously been circulated by the fact there isn’t any details left in Monticello. It’s got a mirror like shine that I’ve never seen before even on a new nickel. Has anyone cleaned or polished a nickel before to achieve this kind of shine. I know it’s not a thing especially if you’re a collector but I’m thinking its been buffed down because I can see just hint of copper on Monticello itself.
  9. Here’s a pic of the one I have. Honestly it looks in better shape then the one being sold on eBay. And I seen his says double steps yet I can’t tell by his pics. Does anyone know of this error? I believe by the looks of mine there is doubling at the bottom. But I don’t have full steps so I really can’t tell from there but neither does his. The third picture of his must be a pic from another nickel because that surely doesn’t look like something that can pass with a MS-66 grade but what do I know. First pic I just lined it up with another Jefferson but you can tell which is the special strike.
  10. I was trying to do some more research on a 1954 nickel I have. I couldn’t understand why it had a different toning then any of the other nickels I’ve been searching through. Then I realized it was an S mint. I still have a lot to learn about the mint marks and what not lol.I know the S is for San Francisco mint but do they only do proof strikes I’m assuming? In my search I came across this nickel on eBay. Is this correct or is this person trying to bamboozle someone. I’m not sure what they are trying to show on pic 3 but I don’t see any steps on Monticello so how did this coin get a MS-66 grade?
  11. I find these coins with different things engraved that makes me wonder who why and where all the time. Like this 1987 P nickel with NRA stamped in it. Must of been a gun lover lol. The quarter with BROWN EGGS🤔 Really loves brown eggs. But why a 5 on a 1944 wheatie? Sure would be nice to find anyone that did one of these and get the story. Is it something they did as an experiment to see if it would end up back in there hands? Was it a coin special to them because it scratched a winning lottery ticket? We may never know😂
  12. This is just another nickel I’ve found within the past several months since I started coin roll hunting. I believe it to be a D over S. I’ve checked out the Wexlers Die Variety listings thanks to the user on here who referred me to that site by the way. I believe the user name was “Oldhoopster” sorry if that’s wrong but thanks anyway lol. It’s been a big help. Except maybe on this one. It doesn’t show pictures of the “die marker” for this particular nickel for some reason. They were a big help in me identifying my 1942 DOHD. From what I can tell so far from the description is very little, The lettering in United is a bit close to the rim for me to be able to see if there are die scratch’s under them. I do see some from the last S in STATES to the O in OF but without pictures it’s hard to tell because this die scratch is at an angle from the top curve of the lower S section to the bottom of the O. I guess I would like to know is if anyone knows of another website or listing I can check or are they all pretty much the same in identifying markers? It’s definitely a mint mark over a mint mark and could even just be one of the 7 D over D. I just don’t see any of the identifying markings for any of those and they all have pictures to go by. Once again pictures aren’t the best but from what I can see is there’s a little more filling going on in the middle of the D mint mark which leads me to believe is part of the S. Probably just crud or something ding it on the inside edge but if anyone has a little more insight or another listing of things to look for it would be much appreciated.
  13. The no mint mark is the biggest give away for any of them not just the 1944 which is what got the old man busted in the first place. But the deformed R isn’t on all his nickels so you can’t always go by that if you do decide to go hunting for one. The weight of his nickels were way over the normal 5grams. This is a mystery as well because has supposedly bought the same blanks the mint used from the same company that makes them for the mint🤷🏼‍♂️ This is just what I’ve been told and could be wrong about how has obtained them but I’ve read from multiple sources that the weight is the key to finding one. Roll hunting is fun you should try it. I’m assuming when you say you collect regular nickels you buy them in mint state right? I don’t know I guess I find it more exciting to find stuff like this and put it in my collection as opposed to buying them and building a collection.
  14. Yes that’s what I always look at. But there are some out there without the hole in the R. There’s also controversy on there being a 6th unknown date because he apparently claimed to of made 6 dies but only 5 dates have been found. I was told to weigh every date from 1939 to 1953. If they weigh 5.40 then it’s most likely a Henning nickel.
  15. Oh it has😂 It would be nice if it had sic full steps. I still wouldn’t sell it and that would be some luck if anyone finds a circulated nickel this old with even one full step.
  16. My main goal in searching Jefferson nickels was to find me a Henning nickel but I’m finding everything else but one. I’ve also found a few buffalo nickels and one 1899 V nickel. It’s amazing how this stuffs still floating around.
  17. Sure. The best I got for now. I’m going to buy a better scope and one I can transfer pictures to my phone some how. The one I have was given to me by a stamp collector. Thought it would be good for coins but it takes crappy pictures. I don’t think it’s the right light for coins or something but anyway. And thanks Oldhoopster for the advice on that website. I never knew it existed and showed me more about my nickel than the Redbook did. There’s a die scratch between the D in GOD and Jefferson’s chin. It’s barely noticeable in photo but In hand if you tilt the nickel in certain lighting you can see it. This is a tall tale sign I have a 1942 D over horizontal D.
  18. I didn’t think it would be that hard of a guess if you can see the picture. I believe it to be a 1942 D over horizontal D.
  19. I was wondering about that site Etsy🤣 The prices people are asking for the on there just blows my mind. Haven’t been to any of the other sites. I personally wouldn’t buy or even sell a coin unless it’s been certified as an error through a grading company but to each his/her own.
  20. This is coin one with heavier scrapes. Sorry again but I’m not going to get any better pics then this until I find a new setup for taking pictures.
  21. Well I hope this is viewable to everyone. I took it from a scope to a LCD tv to my phone camera. I want to get opinions on what y’all believe it to be to get rid of any doubt without having to say what I believe this is. Found this Jefferson nickel in a Loomis roll a couple months back and I put it away for second opinions. I have to give a hint so you’ll at least know what coin. Tell me the year and error then I’ll know without a doubt I have what I think I do. I know it’s not in great shape and the fact it’s not worth a hell of a lot isn’t my concern. I’m just amazed this stuff is still floating around.
