  1. Winner winner chicken dinner lol. Thanks, I searched through Google images but really couldn’t find any strike throughs like mine. Now I know why and what I’m looking at. Thanks again for your time on finding that Oldhoopster.
  2. The rim is flattened a bit as shown by the side view. Sorry you probably can’t tell from the one pic I took. But the strike through of something pliable sounds right. Could a already partially struck planchet with the flat thin end have over lapped this one during striking still being thin enough to leave a imprint? Or partially Die, Sorry still looking into that lol. Just throwing thoughts out there.
  3. Thanks for the help. I’ll look into this partially capped die theory. I’ve never seen one or know what one is but I’m sure I can find pictures to compare. Not that it has anything to do with this penny but I found this coin in the same roll toward the end. I found out they’re common but it’s definitely something I never expected to find.
  4. Sorry for all the posts. Just trying different angles. Any tips on better picture taking would be great. I only have a cell camera so there’s not much I can do for quality. I could use my scope but taking pictures off my tv uses to much mb.
  5. I’ve seen errors where a planchet was stacked on a planchet and struck but the pictures I’ve seen they were pretty much on top of one another. It’s hard to make a comparison. Plus the indent doesn’t seem circular enough to be another planchet and like was mentioned there’s some lettering and part of Lincoln’s face is noticeable. Could it still strike through another planchet and leave parts of the intended design? And I can’t remember the years of those coins and if that’s possible now a days with the equipment the mint uses.
  6. Here’s some more. I’m just moving it around in different lighting.
  7. Here’s the best I can really do with what I have. The reverse is like any other penny. What ever caused the flattening on the obverse didn’t effect the reverse. The weight is spot on too.
  8. Wouldn’t high heat tarnish the nickel? Acid I believe would eat at it and take layers off not melt it to ripple. The ultra sonic vibration sounds a little more plausible and interesting to try. Ok thanks for the input. I’m just posting another pick that I thank acid did the damage. Not sure if it was acid that caused this but if I believed anything did then this is my guess on what it would look like.
  9. Not sure what caused this. I believe it was a ton of grease on the dies and the holes happened after it left the mint. Unless someone seen a strike through like this and can tell me what it may of been that caused it. I’ve seen strike throughs with imprints of cloth from rags they used to wipe of the dies, staples and springs from the machinery but I’m not sure about this one.
  10. Sweet nice too know. I saved it and didn’t toss it back. It does have other doubling on Liberty and IN GOD WE TRUST but not strong enough for me to conclude it’s a true double die. In any case she’ll be something to reference any other 69’s I come across to. And what’s the story with the 1960 D small date over large date D over D penny, can that not happen to any other year? Not saying it happened to this one but how or why was a small date stamped over a big date such as the 1960?
  11. Yes I know and should of known better to even think I had one. I’ve read up on machine doubling and compared the pictures before. I guess running on 3 hours of sleep in 24 hours didn’t help my brain function properly and got a little amped up over it. I guess I can’t count this penny box a total loss in my hunt. I still have about ten rolls to go and I found a 2000 wide AM. Unfortunately my last penny pick up from the bank gave me all new 2021’s. Not to thrilled about looking at shiny new penny trying to find an error on it😂
  12. Do all the devices on the obverse have to be doubled to be a true double die as well? I read this some where and I can’t remember where. They said something like if there’s doubling on the obverse and reverse it’s most likely machine doubling Is that correct? Or Something along the lines that all the devices will show some kind of doubling🤷🏼‍♂️
  13. I’m just going to say and I’m not arguing this is a double die before someone jumps my a— for not listening to good advice. I just forgot about the mint mark deal. I just wanted to add that this is actually the first time I’ve seen any type of doubling machine or die in pretty much any copper penny. I find them all the time in the later zinc ones. That’s kind of what got me thinking this has to be one and caused me to over look the mint mark being punched in after the fact. That really makes it hard for the latter stage ones I guess🤣 Well that is if your not a pro at spotting them.
  14. You know what I forgot about that mint mark bit. Oh well back to the drawing bored😂
  15. Does this look like I may have a double die? It’s not a shinny penny at all so I know it’s not reflecting like some of them that screw with my eyes lol. Hope the pictures good enough for anyones analysis.
  16. If you looked at the reposts you’d see where it all began. No one called me a name but came into my post and made a rude comment. Which in my opinion is being a troll. If you can’t answer a members questions then maybe you shouldn’t invade their post with your dislike for it. Move on to the next post. And if you don’t like that one then feel free and comment and see if the next member will invite your negativity but not in my posts thank you.
  17. No I was calling 124Spider a troll. Apparently he removed his comment considered the source and moved on😂 What a loser.
  18. That’s crazy. I don’t believe this was spooned though. If anything got this nickel like that it definitely got stuck in some kind of machine. Constantly turning and pushing against the edge, A change machine at the bank perhaps. Maybe the edge had a little more hight to it then normal which would explain how it had enough metal to push inward in the first place. I still think it’s cool and will go with the rest of the strange things I have. Who knows maybe I can find one of these spooners to finish the job and make a ring out of it. I would actually like to see the process.
  19. When you said it was spooned I thought to myself how in the hell could a spoon do this and why is someone spooning nickels😂 Thank god for Google.
  20. See that’s why I asked because I’m not familiar with these type of coins and wether or not they can be used as currency. I didn’t ask for anyones opinion on politics so let’s not go there for anyone with such an opinion. If you don’t care then don’t be a troll and move to the next persons question that you can probably helpful with.
  21. I think I just explained your mystery Sherlock
  22. So I’m not a big fan of the guy but that’s neither here or there. My dad I think has a man crush on him and I came across a couple silver and gold ones I was thinking about purchasing for him. The lady at the counter wasn’t sure but she said she believes the owner wants $65 a piece for them. Are they worth it?
