  1. Thanks for sharing your passion AND the history lesson
  2. I adhere to dollar cost averaging to help me decide on a purchase. I have bought gold coins ranging from $400 to $1800 an ounce both going up and going down. For the most part I try to find the best price available and then buy. Sometimes tho, I bite the bullet because it is a rarer coin or one that doesn't show up very often. Or, it will complete a set:) The hardest thing for me tho is finding coins in NGC coffins because completing a set with a pcgs coin will not complete the set on my records here I hate that, but it is part of an OCD thing I guess. I have been finding more coins on Great Collections that have been cheaper plus there is no sales tax and with a higher price coin that adds up quick. Happy hunting
  3. I am sorry to hear about your wife. That is a tough one. Keeping busy seems to be one of things that keeps us going and dealing with the pain. I haven't been on much this year but did notice you hadn't been posting much. I thought it was one of the those phases we all go through. I only met you once in Asheville but you treated me fairly when you sold some coins for me and I always appreciated it. Hang in there buddy things will get better. There will always be a hole in your heart where your wife used to be but it will grow smaller. Take care of yourself and your son. Best wishes Ron
  4. I have decided to part with my modern commemorative silver dollar set. It contains 135 coins including 50 70's. It is complete through 2013 Girls scouts missing only 2011 Medal of Honor proof and unc. There are three 68's in the crowd. 87 Constitution proof, 94proof VN veteran and 97s Jackie Robinson ms. I have the 92 White House proof but it is PCGS so I can no longer enter it:( I would like to sell as a set. If that proves to be unlikely I will break the set down by years and as a last resort sell by request. Here is a link to the set https://coins.www.collectors-society.com/registry/coins/SetListing.aspx?PeopleSetID=122959&Ranking=all NGC values the collection at $8500. I am asking $5500 for the entirety. Postage looks to be a real booger since there are so many coins involved. Let me estimate that at $50 shipping. If it is over that I will eat it and if it less then I will refund the difference. Let me know what you think
  5. it is still worth a dollar so not a complete loss

Congratulations on an outstanding submission. There a couple of real beauties in there :)
  7. I kind of like the look of that Barber half. I would put that in my book and not worry about it. Not sure if the conservation cost could ever be recouped. But, that is just me

  11. Just a friendly hint. Most of your coins are not valuable enough to warrant selling on GC. They do a great job but for small ticket coins they are not a financial plus. Best of luck.
  12. Update. If anyone is involved with a coin club I would be willing to sell the 9 $10 slabs for $50 delivered. They would make nice door prizes or raffles prizes or...............

  14. Never a dull moment with young'uns They are funny and precious moments later but in the present is another story. I was painting the bathroom when I got a phone call. I answered and it was an old friend. We chatted about 10 minutes and I hung up. I walked into the bathroom and found my son, maybe 3, had painted the shower door, toilet, door, and the floor to help daddy. We laugh about it now some 30 years later but oh my I was not happy.
  15. I like the lines and layout of those coins. No dead people memorialized just clean simple design. Especially the 1929. Nice pick ups. Wait until you can't buy the coin/s before you have to sell others. Then it gets real
  16. Just a bump for auction ending Sunday. There are some nice mercs and washies along with assorted gold. The washies are very cheap at this point. The 58d is a sweet toner but the scan doesn't capture it well. Good luck and thanks for bidding.
  17. Get yourself a RedBook and look at mintages for each of the gold pieces. Most will be close to melt because there are many years and so many minted that the demand is low. Not too many people can afford to complete a set of eagles or quarter eagles. Call around to a couple of metals dealers and ask what they are paying for gold. There is one fair place where I live and the other 12 dealers not so much. Fast and easy cash on the barrelhead:)
  18. This is a very good summation for your questions. The biggest factor is probably the amount of time you want to put into the effort. See my PM.
  19. Without looking at the coins I can say my experience is that rarely do the coins get what either grading company values them at. Checking eBay results will give you a more accurate/current value than either companies price guides.
