Nice find there EagleRJO . It appears that it is indeed damage as you stated. I don’t think there is much you can do about it. Nice find I’ve not seen that one.

For sure JP! I don’t want my kids to end up spending valuable time with mine. I would rather sell them as a lot!

Gosh VkurtB be sure to let me know you don’t like the idea! The two Ike proofs I have were scratched when I got them (cheap), the commemorative coins were hazy from improper storage before I got them. This way I can still look at them rather than boxed up in some clamshell that will never see daylight. True if I wanted to buck up and have a TPG slab, I could, but this way I can enjoy them and save about $40 apiece. The vast majority of my collection is NGC slabs. But loose stuff that has no large value , why not? See my stuff https://www.ngccoin.com/profile/484776/coins/

Is this a suspect counterfeit date 1909 s?
Mr.Bill347 replied to pigeonman333rd's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
OP didn't indicate at first post that it was a 1909 S VDB, if that is what he was after, it surely is a fake. You can't even breath near a real one for $26. Forget about it! -
Your photos are so out of focus I am unable to even tell the denomination. Hold your phone about 4 inches above the coin and zoom in until the image fills the frame. Then edit the photo and crop it to the edges. Be glad to help once I can see it.

Is this a suspect counterfeit date 1909 s?

I compared your picture to a Great Southern coin. The S mint mark looks the same. This coin is selling for $255. I would not shy away from this one If the price is right. -
Is this an error or just from wear
Mr.Bill347 replied to Sunbunnykim's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
Seems to be worn so thin ya can’t see it! -

Glad you guys touched base on NGCx. I got home from a trip today, flipped on the Tele and what did I see? Mike the coin guy, hawking a 2023 Silver Eagle NGCX10 coin for $79.99. Mike stated after today, ahem, the price would be $129. So the big dealers are creating their own market with NGC creating a new entity just for them. I call BS! But wait there’s more….,Mike said if you buy one today, you will get one FREE NGCx submission, and up to five at $10. makes me question who motivates this? I’ll not be interested, thank you very much, and if I see one for sale, I’ll scroll right on by! it’s a scam! It’s kinda like NFTs non fungible tokens. Won’t even get you a cup of coffee. I see these becoming about as valuable as BGS Beckett graded coins, Happy New Year!

Newbie Question - Proof Sets
Mr.Bill347 replied to Seamus8's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
I’d say it is apples/oranges. As a PS collector, the coins are all handled as proofs but only about 20% of them would get a 70. I have many that most likely would not grade a 65. I have every PS from 1954-2022. Nice to collect but no windfall will be gained . Some have/will appreciate but since none are actually graded , it won’t matter. I probably have twice the value that I spent.
