  1. I come from a boot legging family. My mamaw bootlegged years ago and a bunch of my family from way back. A bunch of em made shine and sold it years ago. If any of them stashed back any they sure didn't pass it down the line.
  2. I agree. Speak easys and boot legging became a big thing. Made some people want it more
  3. Sweet looking cc. I cant wait to get one. Ive been wanting one since I started collecting. I've done decided im gonna find one by time spring comes along. I should have enough saved up by then. Im bout half afraid to buy one off Ebay. If I do I may post the link on here and get some opinions of some of the people on here before I pay that much. Its hard for me to come up with that kind of money. I work for peanuts. Id hate to give it to a counterfeiter.
  4. I cant wait to go to one of the coin shows. I been wanting to. Im going to try to find me a nice cc morgan. I want to get a graded one preferably a GSA. I don't have any cc morgans yet. The coin show may be the place to get my first. Ive been saving up a little money out of each check. Maybe by spring I will be able to get a nice one if this covid will hurry and blow over.
  5. Its a good thing they didn't have the drug problem like we do these days. If it were the epidemic like today they would have really took some losses. I think they had people hooked on morphine and laudanum pretty bad in those days but wasn't nothing like problem today. We can't have nothing here around the house. Gotta tie down everything we got. Especially if its aluminum or copper. Imagine if the mint had that problem back in those days. It breaks my heart to even try.
  6. Yep. I agree with you. Its sad to say there has always been and will always be thieves. I just read about that bag of double eagles a few minutes ago. It mentioned it in this book. I guess the reason they noticed it was because of the dust wasn't it ? They could tell someone had been there due to the pattern of the dust trail being worn off.
  7. That sure is a hard lick. Im sorry to hear that. I dont see how people can do people like that and still sleep at night. Im glad I was raised better than that.
  8. The workers sure did rob the heck out of the mints and assay offices didn't they. And mostly got away with it. I never did see why people do that. I never did want nothing if I had to steal it. Ive never stole a dime in my whole life. If they dumped a truck load of gold in my yard and left me with it I wouldn't take a crumb of it. I just got done reading pg 224 Loses of Depositors Gold. Alot of those old miners risked they're lives for that gold. Worked their fingers to the bones to try feed theyre families. I couldn't bring myself that low to do them like that. Makes me mad knowing them weight clerks like James Negus pretty much got rich stealing off them hard working people. It really is personal to me because I've had so much stole off me over the years. I had a brand new 2000 Honda 400EX stole off me few years back. No insurance and still owed $5000 on it. Had to pay it off while some theif was out riding it.
  9. Variety Vista is an awsome place to look. Its saved me from having to ask about several coins since you all on here have turned me onto it. Now I go there when I'm not sure about a coin I have.
  10. Thats what I thought. Thats why I wondered if anyone ever got the death sentence. They mentioned it in the rules. Id say you probably would really have to mess up.
  11. I just got done with the rules and regulations section. Gonna turn in and get ready for work tomorrow. I was just curious if there is any know employees of the mint who has been put to death for embezzlement or any other like crime. Or sentenced to prison to hard labor. I know that rule would sure break me from it in those days. I wouldn't do anything like that anyway but have that posted in front of ya will keep an honest man honest for sure.
  12. Thats how mine was. Came back 69. It was spotless. They just got done with my medal today. It graded 70. They shipped it this morning.
  13. I like how they say unbranded. more than less saying they ain't real but good quality
  14. Thank you for writing it. I've always had a few of those questions myself. As I've been reading I've been trying to trying to put myself in their shoes back in those days. I'd also like to learn one day about theyre transportation in every thing. The dangers and struggles of transportation of metals and miners raw gold and so on. Its all very interesting.
  15. I absolutely love it. I just finished all the floor plans of the mints and assay offices and the duties of the officials and workers. Very interesting. If I hadn't read this book I'd have never known they minted gold coins in South Carolina and Georgia. Also I never thought about it before how advanced they was in technology in those days. I knew they made stuff but I never really thought about it before of them being that advanced. I guess because they was still in horse and buggy. There was some very intelligent people in those days.
  16. Its a sad deal. Hopefully they will tighten the laws up on them soon. Start being tougher on them.
  17. I just sent in a report on all 3 of them just now. Hopefully they will do something about it. Hate to see people such as myself not know any better and get ripped off.
  18. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Uncirculated-1878-1904-Morgan-Dollar-Culls-Mix-Dates-Lot-of-5-Coins-Collection-/164586021847?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292. Here is a 3rd seller with the same description.
  19. Has anyone reported them yet. Its sad they are ripping people off. Hard telling how many were sold to people who doesn't even know. They need to be shut down.
  20. There is 2 different sellers using the same photo of the 5 key date morgans above that the OP posted. Both sellers ship from US US. Same dude or working together with more. Both use the same description also. Probably same guy.
