I’m at a show in Chattanooga TN this weekend, and picked up this beauty today. Nicest 09-S VDB I have ever owned for sure. Pay no attention to my quick cell phone snaps.

I found a raw 43s with full steps today. Pretty sure it would have went 6FS roughly MS66. The dang guy wanted slabbed money for it and wouldn’t budge.

Seems like you have the best shot at a 6 step coin with 40Ds and 43Ds. That’s what I feel like I have seen the most.

I have been trying to stock up on FS Jefferson nickels. It’s harder than I imagined to find 6FS coins. This is a beauty for sure.

I got this one off EBay last night.  The 1944-D is not a hard coin to get with FS.  BUT - this one came in a (NGC MS67+ 5FS) holder, and when you look MS68FS, the prices go CrAzY!  Hopefully, Albanese will give it a green bean - time will tell.  Either way, I am excited to have this one, CAC would just be icing.

That's the winter slab; it provides better grip in slick conditions...

Agree with Lem. Milk spots are the enemy of ASEs. This is just some rim toning from being in an album or original holder. I love old rim/album toned coins.

I have seen a few. It seems like it happens is they “over bake” them in the sealer maybe. But yes it does happen.

Milk spots are also a major issue with the 96s.

I would consider that a very cool collection. Not unfocused at all in my opinion. You were focused on what you like and thats all that matters.  Those are all very cool coins with an interesting history and its very neat you have complete sets.

I can’t tell you how much I agree with this strategy. I don’t always buy the final one, and it’s fun to look for the elusive upgrade, but quality over quantity is important in my opinion. I see so many collectors that focus on quantity or getting cheap deals on unappealing coins. Buying quality over quantity will benefit you with greater returns on your investment, and make your heirs lives so much easier if they inherit. It’s hard to sell run of the mill or low grade stuff at any price.

just kidding. It appears to be heat damage. People love to throw coins in fires, weld them, etc. high heat causes the metal to bubble like that. Just damaged.

Geez. I need to try and get mine a grade bump. I have a Proof 68 for this one, and it’s the most flawless coin I think I have seen. This one hurts your eyes to look at it. I love this coin, but I guess I could be persuaded to part with it for a steal at say $50k 😂. It’s currently at CAC, but I can easily ship it to you as soon as it gets back.

Here is a graded PL GSA for you to compare.

Be aware that photos taken IN the GSA holder sometimes do not reflect the actual coin.
