Whuuuut? There ain't no such a thing as an SMS Proof. Let's get serious. Let's not be making up descriptions that mean nothing.

@VKurtB "Surely you can't be serious." lol. Quote from Airplane the movie. Anyways, thanks for another lesson learned. These slabs come with  non-permanent cardboard labels and I will take the SMS off the new labels.

@Uriaha and @Modwriter I have searched through my bag of roughly 150 drummer boy quarters I have obtained from change over all my years of collecting and I was unable to find one with a similar attribute. With a Denver mintage of 860,118,839 quarters, I didn't think I would. And we all don't know when the Mint realized that the particular reverse die making this effect was breaking down and stopped the process to change that die out.

I did, however, find a (P) and a D in my bag that were in really good shape with nice original surface luster for cash register change (not sure why I threw those two into the bag in the first place), but I pulled those two and put them into some empty slots in one of my few quarter albums so I guess the time I spent to look for a similar quarter to @Uriaha's was not spent in vain.

@powermad5000 lol. I thought you were joking about searching your drummer boy bag. @Uriaha and you have the only two known to exist. They are getting harder to find in good condition. @Hoghead515 should search his drummer boy hoard.

Individual errors are by definition rare, but not necessarily of interest to collectors.  Damage to coins could be considered rare, as it's almost always specific to an individual coin, but of no added value.

Minor die cracks, like that on the op's coin, are pretty common in general.  They usually add little or no value, unless in an interesting pattern like a "spitting eagle".  How many coins like the op's do you think are in the Cherry Pickers Guide?

@EagleRJO Thanks for your post. I really don't know how many coins like @Uriaha are in the Cherry Pickers Guide. I do know that the latest edition has been printed or about to be. Do you know if coins like this are listed?

@Modwriter The coin in the thread is the OP's who didn't include an obverse pic of it. I was just mentioning if I had it that I would be keeping it, albeit separate from the roughly 100 I have in a bag. I keep all the ones I get from cash register change and have done so since I first started collecting. None of the ones in the bag are in super great condition although some are better than others. I did have to purchase one at the CSNS show in silver and I did have it graded. Returned as MS 65. I just wanted one in really nice shape and slabbed to protect it. I cannot explain why those keep my attention...

@powermad5000 do you have the 1976-S or silver proof mint set? I just ordered one from Ebay and I should have it any day now. I did have a graded silver quarter but have since sold it. I don't have a bag of them but have a tube that I put them in. Thanks, MikeH

Modwriter, my sets begin in1954 would like to further back though. That 2021 set was pricey to obtain

Hi @Mr.Bill347 Congratulations for your set collection. I'm just getting started and buying sets as I find them. Yes, the 2021 set me back a fistful of dollars. I put the five coins from that cracked holder into individual 2x3 slabs.Yes, I have noticed that the 1950 and earlier sets are pricey. ~MikeH~

  7. I ended up purchasing two mint sets today from Ebay. 1976-S and 1982-S. I also tried to bid on a proof set at Heritage but I have moved and my address was not changed in their system. They had several."unkown year" wax packs at auction. I googled the 1936 proof set also and they are being sold in separate non mint coins. I'm wondering if any collectors have the intact 1936 proof set.

I would follow the suggestion that Bill made.   However if you do not you will want to remove the coins from the damaged holder, if you don't you could end up with an ugly toned coin or two.   I bought this coin in this holder because it was super cheap at the time due to the look.

Thanks @Coinbuf. I do have some 2x3 slabs and may use them for the five coins.I do need to order the half dollar and dollar inserts.

  9. Received my order today of a 2021-S Proof Set from the US Mint and the five coin set part is damaged. The plastic case Is cracked. The US Mint terms for returns is a long drawn out process.

I decided to keep it and order another proof set from another vendor, US  Coin Mart. Should I crack the case and put the coins in 2x2's or just leave them as is? Pic to follow.

  10. Im glad to see all of you too! Time is flying by. I ended up buying Whitman coin tubes and a quarter cardboard bank $500 box from Wizard coin supply. I inherited most of my Dad's coin collection and he had close to $500 of loose state quarters that I went through and rolled up. Also filled up most of an state quarter album that he never got around to and a tube of BU to MS state quarters. He had a lot of silver dollars and franklin halves that disappeared after we moved him into assisted living. We think he gave them to a lady friend he met there. lol.

Nice to see you out and about @Modwriter. I don’t really have that many rolls aside from this AWQ project I have going. They are going into these boxes. Hope that somewhere down the line I get a few cool looking enders but, I’ll probably be dead by then. Got to start the new boxes today. 90ACDF55-BEA9-4E33-94B9-5B9D704EE304.thumb.jpeg.cde10ac9a66f373c94507768cba9cf10.jpeg270376D3-BE0F-415D-944E-4691F89C356E.thumb.jpeg.ae717958332a3942d3cd9df27f98f335.jpeg

Hi Lem E! The roll boxes that you are using are really nice. Where did you get them?
