Welcome to the forum, @Jblindy. Let me start by telling I am not a PRO at coin collecting. I am just an old guy that likes to collect coins, I have never sold any thing. I have all the proof and mint sets from 1956 though this year, including the silver set and limited proof sets. Most of the sets after 1964 have not went up much more then what I paid for them from the mint. So if you are buying to make money I don't have any advice for you. If you are buying to improve your collection, all I can tell you is the set are very nice, buy what you like and enjoy what you buy. I do believe this years set is over priced, for the coins in it. But I bought it because I have all the rest, and it dose have both types of the ASE in the set. Now the Pros will tell you their advice.

I got mine today too. They look good to me. Nice addition to my ASE collection.

Another place I found a lot of coins is at estate sells. Most of the time you have to ask about coins from the seller, But if you make a fair offer a lot of times they will take it. Some have taken my name and number so they could take them to a coin dealer first. Then they call me because the dealer pay a lot less.

welcome @Mikhail2400 congratulations on getting one of the 2 coin sets. If you are planning on keeping the set then I would leave them in the original package. If you are thinking about selling them then you want to take the gamble and get them graded. 70 graded coins sell for more when that is the new hot coin. I collect ASE and keep mine in OGP, but I never plan to sell them. Others will pipe in with how they think and feel. Oh and by the way welcome to the forum. The are a lot of very knowable people here that are will to help you.

It sold from the mint for $67 + $5 shipping. Then a grading and shipping $30. SO for a $102 investment they are making $77. Not a bad deal for them. Just hope they don't get a 69 because they were selling for $99.

First let me say I am not as knowable as most of the other people here, but I am learning. My collecting journey started before @Mohawk was even born. IN the 60s my dad would bring home change and my brothers got to look though it for coins he wanted. As I got older I started ordering proof and mint sets from the US Mint. In the early 90s I expanded my buying to the ASE. Always still looking for book coins in change. Did I change what I'm looking for? Yes and no. I still look though change, but have added thing like State and American Beauty Quarters. I still buy ASE, Proof sets and mint sets. Never regretted doing my collection the way I did, because it what I like and I find it fun. Not into collecting for the profit, just the fun. Some day one of my relative will get my collection and I hope they will expand it more with what they like. At least they will have a good base to start from and lots of book to read. I did not have the internet to do my research when I started. so I have lots and lots of books. What has been my favorite part is kind of two fold. I like what I have made and learned. But lately I have been getting a kick out of getting coins from the mint and seeing them sell for lots more on e-bay.

It took me 59 mins to place my order. The mint has to do a better job. It says my order was placed but I have not got confirmation other than an e-mail saying it was placed.

I personally Like collecting ASE, Have all but two of them as of right now. The Burnished set is the smallest of the group, both in mintage and years made. The only coin in that set that really went up is the 2008 with the reverse 07. I think ASE is a nice way for new collectors to get and keep up with a complete set. Some day a family member will get them and say wow that's a lot of silver. LOL I got most of mine when silver was below $15 not it is about $23 so the have went up because of thst more than because of the collecting value. Hope to get the 2021 2 coin set today too.

Welcome to the group @jm20thengr. I'm rather new at this hobby too. Really been doing it for about 5 years now, I try and stay away from buying at e-bay, to many rip off people there, And NEVER buy from the tv guys no matter what they say. I always compare the price I am paying with some online sites such as Apmex so I know if they are in the ball park. If the deal is too good that is a red flag too. Have fun and please show off your coins we all love to see what others get.

OK, My Neighbor came over today with a shoe box of old coins, She says her dad must of saved them and she just found them. It had a lot of wheat cents, Mercury dimes, Morgan dollars, all of them in well circulated. I told her they were worth melt not much more. There we these two gold coin, I don't collect gold, bot I know some people here do. So please tell me are these worth much or just melt? I did the best I could at getting clear pics, and both sides , so people would not yell at me. I did look them up in the red book too.

@VKurtB, I have the Mint sets from 1957 -2020 and was wondering if cutting them up and putting them in Dansco albums would be better than leaving them in ORP? I see that you do cut them up. Is that something a lot of people do, or just your personal preference?

the only time I ever sent a COA was when NGC matched a coin to a number on the COA, MY other COA I just laminate and keep with my coin when I got it back. Sure would like to see some of those coin you have get 70s or even 69. Good luck. If you could show so pic I would like that too. OH and by the way welcome to the forum.

Hello and Welcome, Let me start by saying I am NOT one of the pros here. They are very helpful and will be honest about your coins, When they tell you something believe they do know what they are talking about, I don't care what U-tube or some other site says. I started by making a spread sheet in Excel. Look for all of one type coin and then go though them and put them into the spread sheet. (I treated all of my coins like they were worth a lot) After sorting all of one type I started looking them up in the red book. Yes this took lots of time but I learned a lot too. I did buy albums to put what I felt was the best of each coin in. the other I put into tubes and set a side for some later time. Then I moved on to the next type of coin. I started with Penny (cents) then nickels and all the way up. But do it any way you find FUN. As others have already said DO NOT Clean any coin. The cotton glove are very important too. I oil from your fingers can damage coins. Please Have fun and share pics of your coins. Don't be afraid to ask anything. You will not be the first person to ask it.

Welcome to the forum. Let me start by saying I am NOT a pro by any means. I do happen to have a lot of mint and Proof sets from 1955 forward, I also have a small collection of albums of circulated. (15 to 20) Some Silver rounds and a bunch of ASE. I like to see my coins and hate to store them in a safe place out of site too. what I did was bought a china hutch, Replaced the glass with some clear plastic panels and installed some locks. With glass shelfs and lights inside. The bottom row I keep all my albums, on the top two shelfs I make displays. Some times it's proof set, or mint sets. Some times it's a coin like 1/2 dollars or what ever. About every 6 months I change it up. My family loves to come over and see it and the younger one ask a lot of questions. I get to look at my coins and show them off. Don't get me wrong I do not have any really expensive coins, but I like what I have.

the $30 is , how much you paid for the coin and your shipping /with insurance to and from the TPG. and that might be a low ball amount.

I find that with ASE it is NOT worth getting them graded unless they are 70. I can buy most year at 69 for around $50. to get one graded it is $18 + cost of coin $30 + shipping to and from $20 =$68. yes if you have one before 2002 that comes back a 70 the you can make your money back,

I find the enrollment programs work very well for me. I only want one of each thing and just collect for fun. I have been lucky a few times on the "specials", I got one of the 2019 Rev. Proofs, but not the one with a privy mark.
