  1. If there is anything finer (forgive the blasphemy) God kept it for himself!
  2. This is a very harsh assessment/blanket condemnation. I should have an answer for you before the summer's up.
  3. [Sorry. I just cannot see buying a coin from the U.S. Mint without knowing the basics about it. Obviously, if I purchase a sheet of those 1918 Air Mail stamps featuring an upside-down Jenny, I know I've got something, even though I don't know exactly what it is. Mint error? Pffft! I would have checked first before crowing 🐓 about it on here. Oh, and Welcome to the Forum!
  4. [Fleeting observation... this is precisely the intra-family squabbling the OP of the topic regarding what arrangements have you made for your heirs, sought to have collectors avoid. One member said, ideally, divest yourself of any collections. It'll be a whole lot easier divvying up money than collectible coins. I definitely see the wisdom in that. P.S. The last Red Book I remember owning was dated 1968; there were no spiral editions back then. One highly-respected member said, if you no longer own a single coin book, Red Book or not, you've absented yourself from the coin collecting fraternity.] 😉
  5. I have no particular knowledge but I have seen the holder before somewhere and can vouch for its authenticity. P.S. Nice catch! Lovely gift!
  6. It really didn't seem to make a difference to me at the time. The guy was upset. He was just blowing off steam. There was some method to his madness. He was persistent. And apparently universally disliked. Oh, jeez, I promised to be quiet until after Labor Day. You see what you just made me do?
  7. @World Colonial: I like how you can effective reduce, dispatch, as it were, a global phenomenon, with just a few lines. As I have said, previously, there is no voice like yours on the Forum.
  8. @RWB: What enquiring minds want to know is what the badger intended to do with all that metal?
  9. [To the exceedingly polite otherwise unidentifiable gentleman who called me late at nite to advise me not to wear white after Labor Day, and give the Forum a break with my endless meanderings... Point acknowledged. I will stay off the wires until after the summer break. Clever ploy calling me from number: 000-000-0000!]
  10. @Sandon: Granted, I do not know the first thing about coins. My thought them morphs into... wait a minute, what purpose would publicizing something like this serve? I believe our @RWB, based on what he has weighed in on previously as regarding a somewhat related matter, would summarily declare there is no way to prove the assertions being made--First Type 2, Last Type 1--and consequently, would dismiss the whole kit and kaboodle. I am inclined to agree. After all, if I were the Mint employee, there at the moment of birth, what credence could anyone place in Q.A.'s specious, uncorroborated, undocumentable claim? I don't know about anyone else, but @RWB's line of reasoning is bold, but unassailable. Drawing on that alone, I have just saved myself, let's see now, $170,000.
  11. Fair appraisal. Unfortunately, now that I am behind a walker, 95 % of my world is inaccessible and what I've been left with is a periscope. I have to make do with what I have. I thank you for broaching the subject with sensitivity.
  12. [And the thing of it is, the Moderators never did. Somewhere in the Good Book, there is a verse that reads, in substance: remove not the ancient landmark [boundary stone] which your fathers have set. (Pr 22:28) And NGC saw the value in retaining this remarkable thread. Man, I love this place! If you have the time [and your wife allows you to] you really should review this thread in its entirety and see how it embarked on a journey with promise, which evolved and quickly devolved, into something else. I do not believe there is anything remotely like it, presently.]
  13. [I am truly sorry this member left in a huff. He left so many unanswered questions. And nobody can match his, me-against-all-of-you, bluster.]
  14. Vintage thread. Regrettably, the OP never responded. I would have liked to have seen his reply to this.
  15. @CoinJockey73: Come to think of it, and I want to be fair about this, I believe these small yellow legal pads, purchased years ago, were the last items I remember buying from a 99-cent store, for just 99-cents. The rapid proliferation of C-19 made running these stores, economically unfeasible, and most folded or changed their signage. I share my notes. I am just a simple person. The Myth of Q.A., is greater than the collector. I do what everyone else does, the way they've done it for years. Jotting populations down, revising them, using white-out and labels. I upgraded as far as I could, as fast as I could, and let it go. I did the best I could. I heeded the counsel of fellow members. But I was laid low by time. The rampaging juggernaut came to a full and complete stop. Whew! 🐓
  16. I expected @CoinJockey73 to take up the slack for me, but Noooooo! all he wants to do is post photos of pedestrian coins. Hence, re-visiting dormant threads (at the consternation of some members). No problem; now I have a new-found appreciation of what @RWB must go through in conducting his archeological digs at the National Archives.
  17. Herewith, an authorized sneak peek of the Threadmaster's obsessive compulsion, at the height of his acquisition craze:
  18. The standing appointment I had made with my PCP is Sept. 13th. I assume he will refer me to an orthopedist. I am in no particular rush.
  19. There is a part of me that cannot brook the use of terminological inexactitudes. Ag and Au vs. Cu. Hence Robert Ripley's claim that a pound of feathers weighs more than a pound of silver or gold. Believe it or Not!
  20. An unsolicited compliment? "You talkin' to me? I don't see nobody else here. You talkin' to me?" You do realize you put your reputation, credibility, and everything else on the line, for Q.A.? Thank you!
  21. Mission accomplished!

  22. But can future performance be reliably predicted [much less] guaranteed by past performance? Q.A. is going to continue to sit on the fence on this one. Besides, I am way too hold to be dabbling in anything that is highly volatile.
