@VKurtB why? Now I gotta dig my roll out and look.

Ok. Point taken. Thank you Sai.

It just looks like damage to me.
Understand, of course, that this is an opinion formed by viewing a picture taken from one angle, on a 2 inch by 4 inch screen. In hand, under different lighting and magnification, it may look completely different.
Well Bob. My picture is taken from above and straight down, sarcastic voice mode there. There is a gigantic cut going down the entire left part of the D, but that's not involved with what I see as doubling. I am only seeing the top left corner.

@Greenland I have an entire roll just like them. Nothing Silver is ever junk and your's aren't so bad to be considered only Cull, well maybe 1 or 2 or 5. That's likely why it was suggested to group them and try to sell as lots. Kind of sneak those in the bottom row into separate lots. $3 for a 10 Cent coin is quite a take no matter how you look at it. If you use FB I'm sure you are in some Auction/BIN Group that you can make something on them. Don't be sad.
-
@Just Bob what makes you think it's not?

Idk if I've posted this one here before but my other Friends and I think it's super close to the RPM-005 in CONECA's Top 100 except that it is tilted a little more and is further away. Not to mention that mine doesn't have the Die Clash as a Marker. BUT if you bother to look at the 005 there are those bumps all around the date and MM and also are on my Coin. So idk what to do with it. General consensus is to send it in and we'll find out but it's hardly in an MS state so is worth 10 bucks top and by the time I pay to send it in that's 10 bucks too, sooo...But if it is a new find it could make it worthy. So what do my true experts here have to say?

You might try posting in the ASK NGC Forum.

I would be very careful about returning anything this year. May just get your money back and wind up without a Coin. Js. I've heard these Nickels are a hot commodity and with WP for all intents and purposes shut down, who knows if there will be any more struck.
I agree with Coinbuf on the 2nd part.
I would love to send both my Proof and Silver Sets back but am afraid whet I would get in return would either be even worse than what I have or would be a refund.
-
Ditto Coinbuf.

@pogohatesme well, I did my best to answer your question with regard to leaving them as is or not and confirming the wrap is flimsy. Sometimes I do tend to ramble which explains the rest. Lol! That's something everyone just loves about me. NOT!

90% sure that when graded they would be slabbed in an NGC holder.
1982 the Mint did not produce any Mint Sets so nicer examples do hold a small premium.
Any Coin must be really nice to be worthy of sending in and idk where you are getting the term BU for the Coins in your photos but they don't appear to have much shine on them and that is a very big part of a Coins grade. Unless what you have are nearly blemish free I'd say you'll lose by having them graded. That is just my opinion. The top photo is nice but not a well struck Coin. Idk what's going on with the 2nd, but it is lumpy and dull. The 3rd has a nice tone to it but with the blurry mess that's all I can say. I hope this helps in your decision making and doesn't discourage, which is not my intent.
Understand please that this is just the opinion of one person and the next may be totally opposite. There's a saying I've heard, 'a Coin is worth however much a person is willing to pay for it'.
-
@pogohatesme Idk the significance of the color strips but from what I understand people tend to want the coins from Mint Sets to complete their collections because they are truly uncirculated but not Proofs. So there may be a premium on many of them. I have Also read that the old cellophane packaging can cause the coins surfaces to pit or cause the coins to become foggy looking which isn't very pretty. I won't swear to it but I believe the coins would be better served if taken out of the cellophane and put into individual flips and would likely be worth more as individual Coins as opposed to as a set. But that is just my opinion. Currently the 92 Set values at $9. Individually, depending in the condition you could get as little $20 or as much as into the 1000's of dollars. I mean the pic isn't good enough for me to attempt a grade on any of the coins, but like I said people like the uncirc Coins for their collections.

@Greenland I only use a cheap $5 clip on Macro lens.

@VKurtB Thanks for saying so. I admit those words have made me downgrade many of my own coins that I feel are absolutely gorgeous specimens, if one Franklin didn't have a teensy milk spot between some letter and the rim. I hated it when I was told that and didn't want to believe it. Glad to hear I can go back and take another look at what I have.
-
@pogohatesme personally I love it. I am a big fan of the Franklins.
-
@Just Bob Thanks Bob! I looked and looked and couldn't find any info and some guy said they didn't do stuff like that at NGC, but I had a feeling it wasn't sold like that but I couldn't prove it to myself. I'm glad you were here with your giant book of knowledge to help out. Lymi my Friend.
-
@kbbpll I didn't mean anybody was rude or anything, just that I had never contacted anyone directly like that.
-
Ok. Well don't thank me cause I found squat. Apparently that number on the label should tell you everything and NGC should be able to tell you why it is packaged as it is and why they slabbed it but didn't give it a grade. I am awful sorry but all I can tell you is to contact NGC with it. There is another forum here called Ask NGC and you should post it there. Maybe David Lange will respond.
-
@pogohatesme give me a few to research some. As much as I hate to admit it, I am having trouble with this one. But fear not, I don't give up easily. Without adding your pics I have reached out to some fellow collectors about the whole would they grade them as a set if not purchased as a set and should have that answer soon. ThT answer will set the search parameters and be easy peasy from there. Might not have a complete answer until tomorrow though.
-
@Greenstang I had no idea. Nice to know about that.
-
@Greenland think of the Small Date with the 2 looking like an upside down number 5. Hope that helps.
-
Ok. Well first off, while it is a dandy photo it doesn't offer us a way to see the coins. So if you could either take individual shots of both sides of each coin or at least flip it over and show us the other side as well as the NGC tag stating what you said above, that'd be great.
Idk much about grading, but idt NGC or the others grade a set without it being a set, if that makes sense. I could be wrong. Have you googled like, '5 coin Kennedy Half Dollar Set' ? And then Googled each individual Coin as is graded by NGC? I hate to send you to the neighbors app to check value so I will look if and after you provide the requested photos.
1958D new find RPM or the 005?

Sai is like Sensai or Teacher. I picked it up years ago while reading Stephen Kings Dark Tower series. It is intended as a compliment. Sometimes it just seems appropriate. I hope you don't mind.
Yes, I believe I will send it in. I have about 20 or so people telling me I should. I would like to find a listing for the WRPM-040 but Wexler left it off his site and other than ones for sale on Brian's Variety I've been unable to find a listing with markers and stuff. It is similar though. And the 005 too but the distance from the 9 is different. It's an odd one for sure. It would be neat to find a new 50 one that has gone 50+ years without another being noticed. Still only a $5 coin though, so I will spend more to send it in. Lol! Such is life I suppose.
