I just had some Honey Nut Cheerios. That’s as close as this thread gets to a Cheerios dollar.

The OP must not be confident, possibly wanting someone to make an offer. This is a very easy variety to recognize and all he needs to do is post better pics. But I assume at this point that the bad pics may have been strategic considering the radio silence.

I mean, heck, that IS a question mark as the last character, and blue Sharpie is not dispositive.

The problem is that I agree with you about Potter. Incomparable is a pretty good word, but not in a complimentary way. He’s incomparable in the number of people he and his books have led astray. It’s nothing short of scandalous.

And while those with an emotional or rooting interest are bad enough, those with a pecuniary interest are truly disgusting. And I say that as a man who will be manning a table at Summer F.U.N. (the ANA’s table) that will be back to back with CONECA’s.

Agreed. I think true mint errors are an interesting part of numismatics, and I have nothing but respect for those specialists. What I cannot stand is the current madness around superficial or concocted errors. All the state quarters with cutesy names with youtube videos pumping up their rarity for example. They turn a simple small die break that is just a common as dirt occurrence into the spectacular. If they would look at dimes for the last few years they would have a heart attack and think they hit the jackpot because it seems the majority have die breaks. A true error specialist would also laugh at that. What bothers me most is the vim and vigor that this group of new collectors believes in the validity. I really think it is very harmful to this hobby. If they want to collect errors, then collect errors. This is poised to turn away a bunch of collectors from the hobby when reality sets in, and I think we have a duty to at least educate them. If that is what they want to do fine, but it should be done from a place of knowledge and understanding not delusions of grandeur.

This impaired proof that was likely found in circulation that started this thread is a prime example. Instead it has to become a strike through or a die scratch. Logically the two things can not even be possibilities. Why do so many insist on making the mundane rare in some way? I just don't get it.

A reputable coin grader told you this?/  That doesn't sound right to me.  There's a big difference between a die scratch and a struck thru.

I think, suspect, that there is a whole new generation of collectors who have more money than brains and reply on the TPGs and Sticker Makers to guide them.  CAC, BW, etc., like + and *, are created by dealers to enrich dealers.

I'm just shaking my head at the CAC insanity. Have people lost the ability to grade for themselves?
The number of Kool-aid drinkers is astounding.
    I'd be a buyer for non-CAC if I didn't suspect a bubble.
    Oh-well...I have plenty of popcorn.

So I'm not particularly interested in the toned coins. Just my personal preference to have them look like they came from the mint.

But would NGC certify a toned coin if it's been toned artificially?
Also good to know from fellow collectors that it's just a preference thing and not necessarily a more valuable coin just because it's got toning.

A large proportion of the "toned" coins you see offered have been artificially colored, then priced as if they were natural products. Visually appealing toning on circulated coins is especially unusual and is one sign of a coin having been cleaned then artificially colored to hide the mess. If you buy from reputable coin dealers and auction companies you will be in a better position to acquire nice coins for your collection. In the price range mentioned, you can find some nice coins in NGC, PCGS and ANACS holders.
