  1. Quite so Conder101. The coin dealers were not satisfied with the monies they were getting on the Sheldon Scale Grading System so they got creative. Hence, we, the average coin collector (not to be confused with dealer) were blessed with + and * and PL DPL Cameo Ultra Cameo BN RB RD etc. etc. They're really pushing to get some more in such as 'Semi Prooflike'. And with each one of these designations the 'collector' was bestowed with additional cost. Now I don't begrudge a person to make his fortune but once in a while I would have like to have seen the average run of the mill kid collector get a break. These are just my thoughts and my humble opinion. Proof Like - Nope. If it isn't a Proof coin it isn't.
  2. My suggestion would be to go to www.ngc.com and pull up the US submissions form. Cost will depend on what you want.
  3. I have this to say about that. Very educational and the conversation brings back memories.
  4. Sounds like you had a good time. Children have an over whelming need to explore. Thanks for the comment.
  5. Yes. Nice country there and you're right. The deeper you go in a mine you can really experience the changes. I was in a Salt Mine in Austria that was 7,000 years old. Kept going down and down and I was getting a little phobia. Tourist thing when I was in Bertchesgaden, Germany on leave. There was another in Colorado. called the Molly Kathleen that was 1000 feet deep. I guess they got gold out it for decades.
  6. I can't participate in this. What is meant by "Best"? Best circulating, best looking, eh? And what in Hades is 'Golden Era'? Does that mean the time of the Zoot Suits? The best circulated coin, in my opinion, was the Seated Liberty Dollar. This is my final word on the matter. Alex has spoken.
  7. Hey VKurtB: I was in a 'mine' once. In Colorado. Near Leadville. Near Old Camp Hale. Near a roaring stream. Maybe I can help him. Is this thread going to beat the record? Wow, like 2004 all over again.
  8. Poor fella looks pretty beat up to me. You know there ought to be a law that says after so many years a coin must be 'retired'. Retire was a term used by bounty hunters and Blade Runners as an alternative to the term "assassinate" or "kill" in regards to replicants. To "retire" replicants is another form of saying to "kill" replicants.[1]
  9. Definite fake. As for 'provenance' it has the look of a Chinese knockoff that you would find on Alibaba. The reason I say this is because it looks like it was recently minted. They sell tons of fabricated American coins on Alibaba and Etsy and while in their description they will call it a 'Fantasy' coin they never seem to have 'copy' on them which is required by the Hobby Protection Act. Hope I have been of some help.
  10. I'm up here in Clinton County and haven't yet encountered a problem. I say yet because I'm starting to read a lot about it. I get 5 rolls of quarters every Thursday and have yet to be turned down. That is not to say this Thursday I won't get a "Sorry". See you're moving - hope it turns out real fine for you. I will let you know if I encounter shortages.
  11. And here I was all prepared to call the florist and have the flowers sent. Oh, silly me.
  12. Well guys, I do think, all things aside, that we will hear from the OP in question again. I do hope that he or she enjoyed this as much as I did. Y'all take care guys.
  13. There are some rather beautiful coins and beauty is, as always, in the eye of the looker. Yes, I agree, as with all there's the hype but every auction and sale has it. I have no time for 'Partially Prooflike' or 'Prooflike'. These terms are used to boost the asking price of what is, in my opinion, nothing more than a good looking Business Strike. If it's not Proof - it ain't.
  14. Stick around. This one's really interesting. We have a OP that has two screen names. I'm shocked.
  15. Quintus: I watch and wait for the continuation of this saga. "mad scientist VKurtB's experimentation with acid baths and, quite frankly, his magical collection of fonts from which he drew that outsized "ME"! " I love it! Good show. PS: There's some people on this forum who get a little touchy about things. I first signed on in 2002 and by 2005 I was gone. Guess it just gets too heated. Besides, people should have found the humor in this. And BTW folks there a tens of thousands of posters out there operating under various nomme de guerres
  16. To those who post in this forum I wish to express my heart felt gratitude for providing this amount of entertainment.
  17. RWB has hit the nail on the head with this one. If I read that on a sellers page I'd be gone right quick. Proof huh?
