In my defense all I can says is: I was a teenager and still at that age where I believed adults were beyond reproach. I sure have learned better. Some coin and antique dealers get real mad at me when I won't sell at their crazy low prices. Now I say NO only once and then I am gone.

I was young in those days and didn't know no better. I have learned.

user-unfriendly Italian weapon
Did the job Oswald wanted; didn't it?

No one should feel down about making a mistake. We all have been taken in once, or more times, in our life. Mine wasn't coins; I had learned prior to collecting those
Got 'had' when I was younger and collecting American Civil War items. Bought a model 1861 Springfield Rifled Musket. I really wanted to inspect this closer but the seller wouldn't let me disassemble the weapon. Paid a heft price (in those days) for it. No returns and no refunds and prior to EBay. Happens to us all.
About this musket I held so tight
Many books on this I had read
Took the barrel off and turned it over
“Made in Italy” was all it said

You are saying that the same coin once you slab and grade it the same should cost the same price?
Who is saying this? And what do you mean?

Not sure how readable newspapers would be 50 or 100 years or more
Some old Pennsylvania newspapers from the Revolutionary War period that I purchased from a guy on EBay were very legible. And interesting too.

It is my understanding that most if not all of their original copies going back to Civil War times which were stored in what they referred to as newspaper "morgues"
Correct but over the years the past copies were eventually sold off. There is one (or more) EBay dealers who sell only old copies of newspapers dating as far back as far as pre-Revolutionary War periods.

Labels on coin slabs are no different than labels on canned soup. They are designed hopefully to attract the consumer to buy the product. The problem with coin labels is: different labels means a different price; but then that applies to canned soup also.

the pictures look the same but the names have been changed to protect the 'innocent'.

I generally only use eBay to calculate the value OVER pricing.
Listen up guys. EBay USED to be the place for coins and currency - years ago. Now EBay is mostly the junk dealers are trying to get rid off. When you click Buy It Now and you see an 1880 Morgan Dollar low for $40.00 and by the time you get to the end of the list it's $300.00! If I see a coin on EBay and check it's B.I.N. price chances are good that I can get a better looking (eye appeal) coin and at less money expended from a nationally know dealer. I have not bought from EBay (coins) in quite a while.

Okay, but there's more than one way to "pay" for publicity. But, who cares. NGC got their share this week. Everybody is happy.

What makes everyone think that PCGS didn't pay for the privilege of grading this coin?
Yep!

I really don't understand the point of having this coin "certified." Everyone knows what it is.
I agree Just Bob. This one is so famous it doesn't need a slab advertisement. What the future owner(s) decide maybe a different story.
-
Also agree with JustBob on that 18 and 19. If not doesn't matter. There is still the age to consider. 100 years for both. Aged coins always interest me.

These laws crashed the coin hobby in 1965 and drove millions away from coin collecting.
Don't know about "millions" but 1965 was a sad year for coins. The Dime and Quarter no longer had a Silver content and the Kennedy went to 40%. I remember there was a coin shortage during that time.

Is it just me, or is anyone else aware these two members have been at each other's throats
After ya been around a while ya won't even notice it. You should have been here in Fall/Winter 2003 when HRH of ATS threw a curve ball at our Host. All Hades broke loose after that.
The boys are just being themselves and they have agreed to disagree.

Here's a pretty and interesting 24 buffalo nickel I'd like to share. Look over the details.
Very nice pick up. Didn't have to look any further than 'CrazyHoundDog Collection' to know you have a Class A Coin and with a history too. I,m very jealous.

If the collector doesn't care about the future price of what they buy, then nothing I write on this topic is of any relevance to them.
It does not matter what the "collector' cares about or doesn't care about. The price the "collector' pays today or pays next year is based on the market which is controlled by groups of "coin dealers". The "collector' will pay the cost as set by these "dealers' or the "collector" will do without. It has been about greed; it has always been about greed.
Seems like its been ages since we had a guess the grade thread so just for fun...
