Jgrinz - Thank you very much for your reply and info. I agree that it is not a scarface but I guess I will have it checked out for a VAM when I send it in to be graded. Maybe I'll get lucky.
As for the toning, my father has had this in his safe in the garage since the 70's. It has been in the Savings and Loans case ever since then. I am assuming, the Texas heat and cold over the years caused the toning. As you can see in my next photo, the Peace didn't tone well, but the two morgans in the red cases have similar toning. All the Morgans in the blue cases have the similar toning as well. The morgan in the savings and loan paper holder didn't tone at all.
Thanks again for your time.
My question to you would be WHY certify … the way they are right now have so much more history and are way TOO C00l~!
Yep heat and cold and that cardboard will do it … similar to coin book toning. Enjoy them

That looks like a fake to me …

Haven't looked at the numbers, but the numbers in the book are going to be probably at least four years old, and a lot of dollars have probably been graded in the meantime.
Ditto
Web site should be the most current figures ( One would assume )

Dunno second one looks AU to me ( Wreath leaves and Breast ) Philly's are usually struck pretty good for it to be a strike issue.
I can see the first one as a 63 cause of forehead eye nose and mouth hits - Reverse is definitely a 64
Nice pictures by the way
IMHO

Kinda looks like the fields on the proof coin are toning goldish ..
-
Reduntant ...
Someones in bed with someone ... ANA memberships maybe ... If they open it up to ANACS / ICG maybe something there

Actually I like this coin for a 62 with these pictures / better pictures I may change my mind :-)
The hair strands are still there above there ear.
I think you guys are seeing the offset of the tone - I dont think it is wear
I do not see any OBVIOUS signs of cleaning
Nice bag tone to the obverse - showing a nice lay of another coin on it.
Breast feathering is complete with minor if any wear - and wings tips are perfect.
This is a VAM - "low zero" type but pictures definitely are not good enough for identification.
I like it

I agree. They need to take it off the software for Details coins. I actually have 2 TopPop coins that are straight graded and they have no others at the same grade - yes, two TopPop NoEqual coins. Think that's impressive??? You shouldn't! They are coins almost no one else would submit for grading. I submitted them for a very specific non-economic reason and they just both happened to come back PF70. The highest previous were PF69. Whose are better? I cannot swear mine are. That's the way grading works sometimes. It doesn't always mean what you'd think it means. [They were U.K. coins and the 3rd party grading fetish has not yet gotten to the insane point it has here. There are probably thousands of P70's out there still raw.]
Oh come on .. I think they should start the second to top pop and third …
Yes I jest

Just checking: Are we still allowed to say this in this hobby??? Sometimes it seems like toning is getting jammed down my throat, and I don't really care for it. "Eye Appeal"? To whom, exactly? Yecch!
Ditto - it has to be really amazing for me to appreciate toning in general.
Oh yea professional level polishing there

Question, if I want to start sending coins in to get authenticated, can I leave them in a 2x2 cardboard flip. Or do I need to have a special flip.
You may find unless you have an extreme rarity it may not be cost effective to do so..
Mark it on the 2x2 DOO and version # and start a nice 2x2 book with all your findings. IMHO

That's it! matched all marks. Awesome. thank you guys very much. must not be too rare of a vam. every 1878 I have is also a vam 38. exact same marks and doubling.
Yeah there are around 500 certified at NGC in VAM-38
Still cool though -
-
-
Yeah its doubled along with "R" that you can see, there are more doubled letters
What I see it looks like a VAM-38

I would almost go 65 on this 87 depending on the heaviness of the scratches in front of her face.
Of course again this is going on less than optimum pictures and lighting :-)
I like the tone on this coin, looks fresh from a coin book
-
At least its silver :-)
-
Impossible to tell with that picture sorry
-
Looks like a 1928-d and Agree with the above grade opinion might be worth $4 as its has quite a few less made than the
Philadelphia minted coin at 4mil strikes
-
I kind of agree with the grade that's on it … Maybe slightly less at a 62
Thanks for sharing

What if you tried slightly tilting the coin by placing something, like another coin, underneath one edge - below the cloth?
I have found that doesn't work well then you get lighting anomalies that look cool but are not accurate of the coin
I find this works good getting surface scratches and cracks
-
With out seeing the rest of the coin in hand
that is a VAM-38 - There are other 7/8's /5's but not enough pictures of areas of interest to discern anything more
1878 P Morgan 7/8 - 5 Feather Long Nock
Looks like some cleaning residue on the head and cap - I would send it
-
Mint mark looks like PM damage
The letters look like a hub doubling

A true scar face comes from the rim and goes by the nose and into cheek area.
Are you talking about the marking going by and through the eye
