  1. At FUN, I picked up the 1908-D Dime from Gail of JJ Teaparty - and looked over the remains of the Surf City Half collection - most of which are just too white for my collection.

I found a Trade Dollar they had on their Web site - and have reserved it - details

    to follow, next month.

I stopped by CRO and met with John Agre who held this Half for me...

From there, I met with a few fellow Barber collectors and I picked this one

    from a nice group { couldn't buy them all !! :o }

I met up with another friend and we stopped by to see Dave Kahn who was

holding this neat upgrade for me -

Later on that afternoon, after striking out at a few dealers' tables, I stopped

by my friend, Jim Bush's table and spotted this - and I recognized it as I was

the under bidder on this coin at a Goldberg auction a few years back. I actually

picked it up for about $400 less than it sold for originally : { please excuse the

    terrible images - they are Goldberg's }

    I did a few pre-bids at Heritage's auction - and I stretched for this 1901-O

Quarter in PCGS in PCGS 58 - a semi key that is almost impossible to locate.

    { in AU - that is }

Another auction win - this 1903-S in PCGS 63, a nice upgrade for my 53:

Tonight, I found out that I won this Dime error, pretty neat coin !!

A couple of newps are slight bumps in grades but - my goal is to swap out

as many XF 40's with AU 53 - 55's...and these fall into that category:

Pre-FUN show, I was able to pick up a number of Quarters in PCGS 58

from the Surf City { Don Willis } collection. I do not have any images, yet.

Another friend had a few Quarters that he had quadruplicates of...

and I ended up getting a beautiful semi key - 1907-S in 55 - as well as a

richly toned 1900-S in AU 53. Again, no images, yet.

Hope you enjoyed the images !

  2. eBay can be feast or famine. I saw this common date in a grade I wanted,

so, this is a BIN... and an upgrade for the AU 55 in my collection.

Horrible images, and the Spam is just too funny. Looking forward to getting

this by the beginning of next week. The AU 55 will get sold off at FUN the

    following week.

This may be too large to post -

  3.

I met Skip a few years ago. He had a stereo microscope at his table and

I had an odd 1901 Quarter in an NGC 58 holder which has a Phantom " S "

under the tail feather. I thought the die was effaced to remove the errant " S "

but, as Skip proved to me, the supposed mint mark was a series of minicule

scratches on the coin itself, not the die.

    He's a very knowledgable professional.

  4. NutmegCoin...would love to see good pictures of the whizzed coin.

I have only seen one whizzed coin before - raw - and it had an odd sheen to it.

The coin was too clean for the wear on its devices.

Here's a old friend coming back home. Sold this in 2011 - a friend bought it at

the Heritage ANA auction - but my friend upgraded it with a 66; I couldn't let this

one slip thru my fingers. It came out of a great collection - and the date is a semi-

    key of Phila Halves.

  5. Interesting weekend. Picked up a few minor upgrades for all the Barber sets.

Added a decent 1915 Proof Dime in 64 CAM

as well as a minor jump in grade for another

    1911-D Quarter in AU 58 ( have a nice 55 ).

I also won for short money a nice 1908-O Quarter

in MS 64+.... Upgrading my AU 55.

Last, was a meaty AU 53 1898 Half Dollar.

It upgrades my AU 50 ( which is too nice to sell off. )

  6. This past weekend, I went to a local coin show in Ft. Myers and

met up with a few fellow Barber Collectors who had set up together

as their first try-out as dealers.

I have known these guys for a few years and wanted to see how

they were making out. Normally, the Ft Myers shows are void of

any Barbers - I think that in 24 years of going to these shows, I have

walked away with a total of four or five Barbers.

Anyhow, I was able to pick up three V Nickels in MS - nothing elaborate -

    just well struck - great lustered coins { 1905 - 63; 1906 - 63 & 1908 - 64 }.

    [No images yet ]

I am 75% complete in my MS set of V Nickels. My AU 58 set is 90% complete.

I am also slowly working on a Proof set as well....I have a long long way to go !

I was also looking for some Barber Quarters for another friend's teenagers.

I located a couple I liked - and knew he would as well. Funny thing though,

I found a 1900-O Quarter in PC 53 that was very nicely toned. I bought it

in the hope's mine was nicer { I had a nice 53 in my set as well } . It turned out

that the newp was nicer than my old coin - so I am keeping the newp.

    [No images yet ]

My old 00-O is too white for my friend's tastes - so - I'll sell off the old one:

    1900-OQuarterPCGS53REV2013_zpsa2d350ec.jpg

I picked up another [ yes, another duplicate] 1898-Phila Quarter in PC45.

I have a hang up about this date.... I'll probably end up with a complete

grading set of this date. Yup, I'm nuts !!

I ended up getting my friend's kids a really nice 1902-S in PC 45:

    1902-S%20Quarter%20PCGS%2045%20True%20View%20-%20DJW_zps4v9kx6cf.jpg

Last - but far from least - I spotted a raw 1907-S Quarter in AU58/MS64

that I plan on sending into PCGS for holdering. The OBV may not make it

into a graded holder...but the REV is a great look. We'll see what happens.

I have a decent VF 25 in my set now - as I have never found an AU. My

last set had an MS 64.

Oh, yeah.... One of my auction bids came thru last night:

  7.

My Dad was born in 1917 - and over the years, I have picked up a complete date set of all denominations and mint marks.

    .

As a matter of fact, I have quite a few Dime errors. Here's yet another one.

This time from the collection of Broadstruck, this choice 1917-S Dime - NGC

MS 62. I spotted this here on the BST some time ago - but forgot about it.

Stumbling across it the other night, I knew I should get it.

    image_zpsfh7d5mw4.jpeg

  8. The 1898-S Half was received the other day, and the images (although very nice)

do not do this coin it's true justice. The color is intense Amber and the luster jumps

off the coin. I'm beyond pleased. I've paired this coin with my MS Philadelphia and

    New Orleans' counterparts.

Well, I was in for severe sticker shock on the Gardner sale this week. I had a string

of Dimes and Nickels I was very interested in. Nothing exotic. I was blown out of the water

on all but one bid. I was fortunate enough to pick up an 1895 Proof Dime - PCGS 63 CAC .

My lap top is giving me fits and I can't access the Internet. I have been using my iPad

for quite a while and never realized the SONY "Vaio" wasn't working.

Let's see if I can post the new Dime ( a friend captured its image and I was able to

copy it to the iPad ) ... Of course, the image size is too large.

I had a smaller OBV image... Let's see if that will fit.... ( it seems it took ).

  9.

Not to worry... Ha ha .... I have not forgotten to continue posting my Halves

...I left off at 1896-S in 53. I'll pick up where I left off soon.

In the mean time, I picked up a coin for my Everyman set (ATS)....

    a 1907-P Dime - from Vic Bozarth: a 1907-P Dime PCGS 58 & CAC.

Vic mentions that there are only two 07-P's in AU 58 that are CAC !

Paid less for this than I did for the one I used to have in my collection.

    That's always a good deal !!

BTW: Hits on this thread as of 10-05-15: (267,737). Let's step up the

post count... It's looming around 2,000 posts.

Ok... My new 1907-P - thru the NGC system:
