  1. Congrats to Daryl and Roger. Along with the others.
  2. There is a separate submission form for ancients. Look at the last form.
  3. Here's an oldie for ya: https://video.search.yahoo.com/video/play;_ylt=A0PDsBl2rDVfQEEA4XTBGOd_;_ylu=X3oDMTByMjB0aG5zBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw--?p=trial+pf+the+pyx&back=https%3A%2F%2Fsearch.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%3Fp%3Dtrial%2Bpf%2Bthe%2Bpyx%26ei%3DUTF-8&turl=https%3A%2F%2Ftse4.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DOVP.SZLqWwDjrEmWVEVc74gTnwEsDh%26amp%3Bpid%3DApi%26w%3D144%26h%3D77%26c%3D7&rurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dkf3fFeb4C4s&tit=TRIAL+OF+THE+PYX&l=79&vid=f193f53c1b9d56c1425fc433b8596ef7&sigr=RDZL2Mtie6ed&sigb=quowD3NZmfd2&sigt=t8t65szdfqbp&sigi=LmO8MQ44Cml8&_guc_consent_skip=1597353116
  4. My original, thought is MS 60 and I'm sticking to it.
  5. Talk is cheap. If the OP doesn't take appropriate action (Authentication) with his coin - it is worth a dime and all the talk is meaningless. If he is able to sell the coin - it is worth what the buyer pays for it to the buyer - not anyone else. I hear a lot of talking and no action which tells me the OP knows it's not what he is stating that it is and just wants to talk about it.
  6. Wish I still received WGN. Ever been to the University of Chicago? Nice place - just wouldn't want to be there now.
  7. Or maybe from another planet! just kidding quintus. Keep it up - it is refreshing.
  8. It's worth nothing unless authenticated or someone pays you something for it. As W.C. Fields said there's a sucker born every minute.
  9. Bingo - it is nothing until you have it authenticated - except to you of course (or another owner of it). So roll the dice - if authenticated - it will add nothing to your belief, but it will convince others. If not - then your dream is shattered and no one else gains anything other than some happy electrons flowing across the screen.
  10. True enough, but if the right coin comes along - sometimes you just have to bite the bullet.
  11. Very nice set. Playing the upgrade game is an ongoing endeavor that for me, will never end.
  12. There will be some great coins that should go for big bucks - he is selling half his collection in multiple parts. What a shame.
  13. So who is going to pick up the 1894 S and what is your guesstimate on what it will sell for? Thoughts?
  14. I had the same initial thought, but discounted it later. A little purging now and then is good for a collection.
  15. Simpson, whose collection is ranked by Professional Coin Grading Service as one of the best ever amassed, is deaccessioning selections from that collection beginning Sept. 17, 2020, and continuing into 2021. "Important Selections from The Bob R. Simpson Collection, Part I" will include some of the most significant U.S. coins spanning the 18th century to the 20th century. The first sale, and those to follow, will take place exclusively through Heritage Auctions, the world's leading numismatic dealer and auctioneer. what do you think - ready to take out a second mortgage? Will Hanson scarf up a few? Anyone going to preview these in person? Should be a fun Auction.
  16. So send it in - put a little money behind your opinion and have it graded. I'm not giving an opinion one way or the other, as this thread had gone on long enough.
  17. Here is another Newman pedigree label - the EPN type. Nice predigree and coin. For goldfinger: to add a pedigree, I always had to provide some documentation proving it came from the source I was attempting to add (pedigree).
  18. I've been watching many on-line ANA seminars discussing a variety of topics lately - and I'm enjoying the heck out of them. Just a few of the topics include Italian coins, Mexican coins, Morgan Dollars, Counterfiets, grading, CAC and most recently die varieties. There are many more interesting seminars scheduled. While I would love to attend the ANA summer seminar, I cannot for various reasons, so this has been great. They do not go in depth as they would during the summer seminar - maybe two hours instead of a few days, but they are very worthwhile and some I hope they continue. Now back to my What if: what if there were as many varieties seekers for world coins as U.S. Coinage? I collect some varieties in my world Series, but it would be too cost prohibitive to collect all - or even a substantial subset of them. For other series - it is quite doable, but varieties has not caught on to the extent of US collections. The market may not be the same, but there could be some very interesting research along with many new and exciting books published. Anyone currently in the research or publication mode?
  19. And I thought you only looked at the pictures. I should have introduced myself at one of the FCC meetings before I moved out of the area. Maybe during a visit once this virus situation is over.
  20. 8.33% silver as opposed to 8.3% copper will change the appearance of the coin. I do not believe it was cleaned and neither does NGC who gave both a straight grade. I have not seen either coin in hand and going off photos is difficult. The examples that I own are similar in appearance, but slightly less pronounced.
