  1. This should be a separate thread in itself with a discussion on possible solutions to increase the participation of knowledgable members and encouraging the novices to learn from them. All newbie inquiries on what something is worth or the fastest way to sell something should be directed to the Newbie thread and handled by those interested in helping. I am not slighting any of the members that currently contribute - I value your contribution and have learned a lot from you. I would like to bring in more of you into the fold, however. As I have said before - I enjoy this forum very much (more so than others). Alex's image (above) is very fitting.
  2. Not on subject, but I started to look at your custom sets and am enjoying them very much. A lot of work involved - nice job.
  3. I haven't kept up with the ATB or the innovation series. Been concentrating on my world series. How did you end up on the committee?
  4. Agree - I tried to talk Bill into coming back, but no dice so far.
  5. Either route would have been fun to see. I've ridden through the Horseshoe curve a few years ago - very heavily traveled.
  6. The whole incandescent fiasco is a load of ... let the market decide and not the government.
  7. I've seen one of the less than stellar vendors on this platform. Very poor photographs and when I asked for better photos, he said he would do that. I replied that's okay - I won't bid then and proceeded to tell him that it appears that his coin is a counterfeit (95% sure) and that Ihope he'll do the right thing. Better photos would help.
  8. Wasn't this already answered by bs shot? Roller marks or feeder marks - same thing, right?
  9. Bumping this one up so Mike Sprouse can view the coin if he'd like. also Ed Lantz is really nice, but is unfamiliar with the coin.
  10. Mega Red - I don't own one, but may one of these days. Funny how you life can be change by a single encounter.
  11. Very interesting - such an inquiring mind at such a young age.
  12. Has anyone used HiBid auctions yet or know anything about them? They are being advertised on this site and others. I looked at a few of there coins and have seen one that appears to be counterfeit. I'll take a closer look at it, but will not be able to make a positive determination off of a photograph. So like anywhere else these days - bid with a carefully and questioning eye. I'm not impressed with their photographs... Im not saying the auction house is bad or anything, just interested to see if anyone has dealt with them. There are good and bad counterfeits out there and even some of the most experienced dealers are duped by them. I know I have fallen for at least one. The dealer reluctantly refund my money after charging a minimal restocking fee. I purchased another knowing 99% sure it was counterfeit - which it was. This was from a reputable dealer who swore it was genuine. I retuned it for a full refund and it was meltd down. I will purchase from this dealer again, but not the first one that I mentioned.
  13. Thanks. Bob - I've contacted both. Hopefully one will have some insight. These are nicely done rounds with a great story.
  14. Anyone familiar with the below silver round or know who produced it? They were minted as part of the 1970/80s movement against fiat currency. Tupper Saussy, author of The Mircle on Main Street - Saving yourself and America from Financial Ruin, was deeply involved in the movement. Tupper's heirs, and Tupper's former attorney, have a number of these silver rounds, but did not know - or would not say where they came from or who minted them. It is possible that Spencer Judd may have had something to do with it as he has written about Roger Sherman's A Caveat Against Injustice Or an Inquiry Into the Evils of a Fluctating Medium of Exchange. There is a very interesting story here, but I only know a little of it. Nice coins - proofs came in nice wooden presentation boxes. The photos below stink, as they were taken in the wrong light with a crummy camera.
  15. I wonder how many grandkids these days will be as impressed, or even the slightest bit interested, as you were with your grandmother's collection. Maybe if we I time them with subject matter they like - sports, animals - and the like.
  16. Thanks Bob -- I was wondering about that to and thought that it was disabled with the new software. Learn something everyday.
