  1. So this lady arrived today, the final coin to complete my 1936 year set. Sellers pics so not the best, will have to work on some better photos.
  2. This last photo gives the best visual of what is going on, very useful.
  3. Fair enough, usually forums of all types avoid letting members use multiple accounts for several reasons, like the confusion it created earlier in this thread when members tried to find your earlier post about this Lincoln cent and could not. I have zero desire to be a brick and mortar coin dealer so I will pass on that idea. And sadly knowledge of coins is not required to open a coin shop, usually just a pulse will suffice. Yes NGC will evaluate your coin because you paid the fee and asked them to, in this case that will likely be a very simple visual review as the coin is obviously plated. Also you are correct that very few would have their life altered because of $18, however some of us are always perplexed when people come here for answers and then ignore the information given to them and waste the money anyway. But your money so if sending it in scratches your itch then its all good.
  4. That may be because many of the coin forums are clogged with etsy garbage posted by far too many fortune hunters.
  5. Why are you posting under a new alt? And I have 100% confidence that you will not get it back as a mint error
  6. Neat piece with an interesting design, I like the detailed lion but it sure does seem that the crown could have been better designed or more intricate.
  7. Welcome to the forum, the advice you received above is correct those coins are just slightly better (and worth about the same) than the change in your purse. Here is a link to an ebay buy it now auction for an MS65 1980-P quarter, it is listed at $15.99. 1980-P If you were a bulk submitter of coins and received the bulk discount, after ebay fees that price would be just about breakeven. I am assuming that you are not a bulk submitter so you would pay more than the $20 (auction price plus shipping and maybe tax) this coin is being offered at, and it is possible that your coin would grade lower than MS65 and thus be worth even less. I have seen a great many people over the past few years spend a great deal of money to have pocket change like this slabbed and graded. Perhaps out of desperation mixed with misinformation from a number of click bait internet sites, but whatever the story those folks have lost what money they had. I hope you are wise enough not to fall for the bogus get rich quick scams that are so prevalent on many social media sites like fakebook and insta.
  8. Drinking and posting is a bad idea.
  9. No I see a New Orleans mintmark that has taken a hit, it would seem that you are experiencing pareidolia to see what you want to be there. If you know ten other collectors that think they see it then I suggest you sell it to one of them.
  10. You have a dinged up 1884-O Morgan dollar that likely will grade as AU, value in that condition is $40 give or take. If you want to spend $40-$50 to grade a $40 coin that is your choice, I would not.
  11. PCGS coins are allowed in the US sets because NGC believes that the grading standards are similar enough to be cohesive and on par with the NGC grading. Ultimately it comes down to; their playground, their rules. And it could be worse, 6 or 8 years ago NGC decided to stop allowing PCGS coin in the US sets, a decision that was met with considerable backlash. It has been only a few years since NGC reversed that decision and allowed PCGS coins to again be counted in the registry. Also, in case you were not aware, it is NGC only for the world sets, something that some world collectors would like to see changed too. You do have a couple of alternatives, you can start your own website and registry designed to suit your needs. Or you could cross your ANACS coins over to NGC (or PCGS) and then use them in the registry here.
  12. Sounds like a great custom set, you could do a nice write up to explain the origins of the set.
  13. Currently the registry has no way to contact the individual owners, putting it up for sale in the marketplace is the best place to start. Is there a market for an MS64?
  14. Continuing to add to one's knowledge it a good thing.
  15. The simple answer is yes, but the amount of premium is different for each year, and proof coin do not receive the full step designation as they are expect to have a full strike. Also it is important to understand that the first step is not the lines but the section the pillars are on, this and the proof coins not receiving the designation are often misunderstood by new or casual collectors. Welcome to the forum.
  16. I had it on my watchlist for a few weeks and received an offer at about that same price, if one of us wins the lotto he may have a buyer otherwise just too much money.
  17. It looks raised in the photo to me so I would also think die crack.
  18. That looks like a real blazer! Congrats on that newp.
  19. Your skepticism is correct, just like toning, if the market will pay for it someone will make it.
  20. I'm curious where you came up with your numbers, I very much doubt that his local B&M dealer paid $32 a coin. Also a tube of quarters holds 40 quarters, 20 for all the half dollar tubes that I have seen. And lastly this is a B&M shop he is talking about so shipping does not apply.
  21. Some very nice upgrades, congrats on those new coins. The toughest part for me now is that an upgrade to any coin in my set is going to be exceedingly pricey and those upgrades can be difficult to find as few come to market.
