Slowly adding and raising the rank.
    Friends,
As you know I send in submissions to add to my mint sets for 1970 to date. The dimes have been a challenge as it is sometimes very hard to tell that a Roosevelt is borderline FT and won't make the label. Another tough one is the nickel that looks to be full steps but also falls short of it's label. I will be sending in a group of both next month for dates 1980 to date and have high hopes for those. As I get better I send in less coins and have better grades overall at less of a cost.
My latest venture this month was a hook-up with a friend that does the same and he is much better than I am at finding the best overall pieces. I will be adding his coins to my sets and offering him some of mine as I get better grades. I will be getting 30 or so MS67FT's and a couple MS68FT's today or tomorrow to add to the sets and very happy that we are going to be working together in the distribution of each others extras. This should prove to be a fun and challenging new partnership.

    Glad that one is over!!
Friends, I did finally get the coins returned for the latest submission. The 70's were tougher than the 80's and 90's will be. Most the 70's were in need of NCS to remove a haze that covered most of them. Of course it is harder to guess the grades on musty coins as it hides the small hairline scratches and tics. I sent in two 1971-S Lincolns and received the same grade on both - MS64RD. One with NCS and the other without. The Quarters and Kennedy halves did well and now are the beginning of new sets I have started and I will upgrade some after I complete the whole batch I have saved up for submissions.
As I just added the pics for the 1971-S Lincoln here is the reverse.

Lost one but got the other!!!
    Friends,
I had made a few sales in the past few weeks. Usually I get checks which is good but last week all payments were in Pay-Pal. I don't take the money out of pay pal except for purchases on the bay. As I had a small nest I started to hunt for something to add to my sets. My Proof nickel set is starting to look good with the 1989-S to date complete PF70UC except 3 coins. I'm still needing the 1991-S and the 2 specimen coins. I set out to grab the specimens but of course I was not alone!!! I lost the 1997 SP70 when the bid went over $225 so I geared up a bit for the 1994 which ended 4 minutes later. I won her at $288.27 shipped and still $40 and more less than buy now prices. The FMV is $500 and it will be a great addition to my set!!!

Another day working on getting better pics.
    Friends,
I recently acquired a few nice nickels and had someone wanting to see pics of the 1941-D MS67 5FS. I took 5 rounds at different lighting and angles and all were rough looking. Finally after 2 hours of mistakes I got out of the direct sunlight and took a pic sitting on the porch.

The GOLD market had a rough day
    WOW!!!
If you don't check precious metal values I got the latest.
Gold dropped almost $75 an oz. today. That's a hard hit for one of my buds that is a gold buyer. The gold stores have been struggling the past few months with the steady low on values and now a hard hit like this may put a few of them out of business.

Please get it going on--- I am starting to loose much needed hair!!
    Friends,
This is my first twist with NCS to NGC. Kinda like a trial thing to see if there is a difference and most the coins I sent needed preservation anyway. Most important I would say is a 1941 PF Liberty Dime and a 1895 5c shield. The 1895 was marked for details slab (only one) as it did have some environmental damage but what a value even in a purple slab!! The 1941 10c should do PF66, and then there is a MS65 1930's quarter I am trying to bump the grade on along with 8 variety Roosevelt dimes. Oh yeah there are the 32 or so 70's coins I can't wait to see. If NCS dosen't get things rolling i'm gonna need a toupee!! HeHe

    Submission after Submission!!!
    Friends,
O-K ---- I know it's about time I sent those submissions off I been ranting about for 2 months now. I stayed with the 1970 to 1979 MS coins which really started to add up as I chose different groups of grading. Of course I threw the 5 free certificate out there and then had 11 more left for NGC. The rest will go to NCS first which came out to 36 coins (OUCH!!!) that's gonna cost me. The PDF submission they give you does not like my computer but I copied it and will just send them in. Hope all of that stuff will work as there were only 10 slots on the submission and I triplicated it to include 30 slots. I also sent in my variety coins for the Roosevelts and a few others = 7 already graded to NGC and then 7 for NCS along with 2 nice coins for LetsDeal = a friend of mine.
My fingers and hopes are set on 67s but of course anything higher will give me bragging rights and a smile for sure!!!
Well let me find a 70s pic and get off here!!
    Enjoy,
    Rick

    Jerry----You got me going now!!!
    Friends,
As I posted earlier on mailman's post I have a large submission of selected coins for the 70's. With the post from Mailman I just had to pull out the 2X2's and get a pic of one of the favorites of mine. This is a solid GOLD toned IKE that will go strait to NGC as I don't think it would benefit a NCS curve. Hope to get a star grade here!!
    ENJOY!!!

    Strange Find
    Hey Friends,
While searching for more 05 to 2010 MS coins for mint sets I ran across a 2005P Buff Westward Journey nickel that had a strange circle cut in it. The rim is fine so it had to happen before the rim was rolled on it. Wonder if the platchet cutter made it and it stayed through the dye?

    Wizard coin supply that is
    Friends,
I have been busy lately slowly catching up on the slowness that winter causes in debt and less work. As I add jobs to my worksheets it looks like it will be time soon to send in another submission to satisfy my modern coin collecting insanity.
A visit to Wizard and a order of 350 poly flips fit the bill but not without a few more additions. I needed the volume 2 cherry pickers guide and decided to add the Authoritative reference on Roosevelt dimes. I hope to have some great news on a large submission that I plan on sending the 1st of next month. It will be nice to finally get the coins graded that I set aside last year before I got on the state quarter kick.
The state quarter set I started in December is 53% at rank 70 and I still plan on getting more graded for missing slots to complete by the end of the year "I hope". The Roosevelts have become my pet peeve as I search for varieties while looking for the full torch designs. The nickles pile up as I find the full steps in searching. I actually have become obsessed with all the coins needed to complete mint sets 1965 to date so there are quite a few for the grading submissions. Hopefully I will get this behind me in a year or two and start back in my early 1900s sets collecting.
    Happy Coin Collecting!!!

Working on my mint sets lately.
    Friends,
I have a small chest the I keep my U S Mint sets & proof sets in and would like to fill it. If you have a group that you would like to sell or trade let me know. I presently have around 50% from 1965 to date but would like to fill the holes that are missing in the box and maybe add some earlier sets. I know, "e-bay or auctions" but I have stopped all of that and been buying and trading in the club only. It has worked well for 4 years now and I would rather deal with friends in the club then others on e-bay anyway. If you have a few extras give me a shout.

Silver Eagles with milk spots "Quick Fix"
    Friends,
We have heard quite a few complaints on coins purchased beautiful but spotted after placed in their safe a few years. Sometimes we don't have the time to pull the coins out and check them and when we do they are spotted. Most blame it on the safe and humidity or whatever. Well the fix for that is NCS for preservation of the coins. Some of the best collections in museums get spotted and are preserved on a regular basis.
I found a good reason for most spotting on our coins. As the coins are usually in slabs they leave a safe deposit box, go to the owners home, get sent to auction, then finally purchased and shipped to your house and then to your safe deposit box. Now adding the movements up on the previous sentence a slabbed coin goes from heat to cold at least 5 times in-between owners. The coin would look perfectly fine when you receive it but there would be a small amount of moisture drying up on the coin when you get it. This should make a dry milk spot or yellowing spot in time. I realized this a while back when I took a few slabs outside the house to do pics. The inside of the slabs fogged up with the quick temperature change. A few minutes inside again and the slab was clear again. I'm sure to see some spotting in the future on those as with others and will send them into NCS for preservation and re-slab if it bothers me enough.
It is our job as the caretakers to preserve as well as collect.

Always adding coins keeps the camera guy busy
    Friends,
As I add to my page eventually I need to catch up a little on pics so I don't get too far behind. Last week I added a few and today a 1965 NGC MS67FT.
Not the best photography but at least a try.

Roosevelt dimes on their way out!!
Friends, I have made a decision to follow Todd Henson and sell off my dimes. Most of them were picked for their clearness and strike. I just have a different kick on these then I did when I started collecting them 2 years ago. So the dimes have been added to this page with my Mocoms and will be sold to venture into other choices of coin collecting.
Work is picking up and the summer should prove to be another adventurous one in my numis additions.

Just a pic that made me think of another collector.
Brian, First off you really need to shorten your name. It took a whole line to write it out.
I was adding pics for the state quarters I got graded in Jan. this weekend and one gave me that ol "Out West" thinking. Of course your sets came to mind so I posted this pic for a good view.

Pics of your muscle cars PLEASE!!!
    Friends,
I know this is a coin hobby club but recently # had the decision to sell coins or muscle cars to upgrade his 1879 mint set. Of course he was smart in the decision and kept the cars.
David, I would like it if you would post a pic of your favorite car or two that you own and a list. It would be a COOL journal and others may like to see as well.
    Thanks----Rick

I spent half of the day catching up on photos.
    Friends,
Well Mike did some catching up on his pics last week and I saw I needed 100 or more pics. I had some good sunshine today and figured it was a perfect day to catch up my page. Now every coin has a pic for the showing.

State Quarters MS uncirculated stage 2 of 3
    Friends,
I finally made enough extra cash to send in the second stage of my state quarters. This submission will cover mainly 2005 to 2008 with a few earlier pieces. The first submission (stage 1) covered 1999 to 2004 with 67 coins that filled 29 holes. This submission surprisingly has the same --- 67 coins but will fill 40 holes in the set. I will be sending in the SMS pieces in May or June as I have other sets that need attention and will send in 1c, 5c, and 10c modern MS next month if work keeps steady enough.
Added a boost this month to my proof sets with a 5c proof purchase of 20 or so pieces. I grabbed the proof nickle set as most of them filled holes in my sets.

My eyes feel like large sticky bubbles!!!
    Friends,
I don't know how the graders keep from having blurry vision. As I searched through another 4400 statehood quarters sometimes I hit a few rolls that are very lustrous. Of course these are what I am looking for and at first the hits and scratches are very easy to see. The quarters go into the spending pile quickly and the keepers are very few. By the end of 2 or 3 rolls of flipping full luster coins in a light the continuous reflection gets my eyes so blurry I can't go through the 8 coins saved out of 120 = 3 rolls to sellect the 4 I plan on submitting. I cover the select coins and leave for a hour or two. When I return I can then see the tiny minute scratches again and complete the search.

    Quarter Submission was TOUGH!!
Friends, I sent in a submission that was accepted on Monday and is already shipped and on it's way home. That sure was a fast turn around on NGC's part. My grades were O-K but really a grade shorter than I was hoping for. I did get 1 MS68PL and a group of 15 MS67s and 30 66s to start the new State Quarter set. I think there were around 5 PL coins and yes I will study them hard to see where the barrier is in the grade differences. I expect to do another submission on the State Quarters next year after I recoup from this one. This set is just for fun and the challenge of learning a little from the graders at NGC.
    HAPPY COIN COLLECTING
As I don't have my coins yet here is a PF Ohio - Same as the coin I got the MS68PL grade on.

Pick a member and send them a coin?
Friends, A great time to share and enjoy!!! I have come up with a idea that I think should work swell. Pick another member that you know well enough to send a coin to for Christmas and leave the message on this thread. That way different people will be picked by others.
You can always check this thread in my messages to see who sent to who.
    What do you think?

My wife has asked me what I want...
    Friends,
I did finally get around to renewing my membership this week. I sent in a group of circulated state quarters for grading and hope NGC will have a Christmas gift or two in there for me when it returns. My wife asked me Monday what I would like as she knows nothing on numismatics for gifts. I will need to visit a few coin stores and see if I can find a few 1970 to 1980 uncirculated mint sets. I have quite a group but missing a few in that area to complete my 1965 to date collection. I hope all is going well with your sets!!

    The last of a chance.
    Friends,
Lately I have been searching the first four years of state quarters for a good submission to put in next month. 1999 to 2003 should boost my mint sets without spending a ton of cash on coins already graded. As the quarters are the largest group in the latter years past 1998 that is my beginning and I will complete the sets as time passes. I purchased 50 rolls from stuartt and now just got 27 rolls from coindude. I do believe that with the combined group I should come up with a few real nice pieces for the yearly mint sets. A group of the rolls from coindude were U. S. Mint rolls and look to be promising but I will find out later this week. I purchased 27 rolls from coindude and told my wife that she could have the extras yo add to christmas shopping. I'm sure she will get me searching them faster than I really anticipated.
So I guess my next year quest is already in the plans and a full set of mint state- state quarters 1999 - 2008 will be my new venture for 2013.
    Happy Coin Collecting
Leaving you with a proof shot of Massachusetts state Quarter. I never realized that the hunting hounds were even on the coins until I started this new venture. Cool!!!

    Rest In Peace my Friend!!
Friends, As most already know our friend has been struggling for two years or more with cancer. His last day was yesterday with family and his struggle is now over. His excitement over the past few years was mainly adding coins to his dime set. The friends he made in the club and coin community was his social network and his commitment and challenge in competing in the dime set was his most enjoyment. Some of us got to know him very well and had a few great laughs in conversations on the phone. He intended on adding coins that were sent for his set and thanking those that sent them but never built up enough energy after the radiation was over. He will be truly missed as a very good friend.
    Rest In Peace My Friend!!

    New Variety???
Friends, While searching 50 rolls I ran across 2 Vermont state quarters with a large extra branch at the top of the left tree. You can see it clearly as a topped off branch to the rear of the tree just under the top right small branch.
