Two days of modifying for naught?
    Hi everyone,
I just spent the last two days adding and modifying my sets, and I was just in the registry and my Sacagawea sets are now out of the order I put them in. Does this happen to you?
Maybe the computer does it. It makes me feel like I could just toss them in randomly and negate any pride I have.
At least, they didn't disappear altogether.
Have a great week. Sets are coming out too fast for my liking.
    Good Luck!
SUNDAY...I SEE I DO NOT HAVE ANY SETS, IN MY COLLECTION, AS I LEFT THEM ON FRIDAY. I HAVE NOT A CLUE WHAT IS GOING ON. ANYONE HAVE A GOOD ANSWER?

I registered 8 coins and lost my slot and NGC lost my second set Cleveland.
I know now why I collect coins. It's for the anguish NGC has put me through for these few years. I registered my new Presidential proofs(both sets) and had top slots. Now I am out, and they have misplace the second Cleveland that I registered. I hope no one else goes through this . Every year is the same thing.
    Happy Collecting?

    Where's our 24th President?
I have four new 2012 Presidential Proof coins graded by NGC, and only three slots to put them in?
    WAKE UP!!!
    I registered them all anyway.
    Happy Collecting everyone!

    I still have them
A lot of my Canadian and New Zealand sets are missing from the Registry. Some are #1 sets too. Where are they? Is anyone else experiencing this?

    100% was the goal
    Hello everyone,
I just added the last two MS Eagles to my collection. I now have both sets at 100%. Here's hoping that 2012 will bring us only 2 coins. Did somebody say, 26th Anniversary set?
    I'm outta here.
    Happy Collecting

    Bah humbug!
    Hi everyone,
I have just completed the 2011 ASE set. It's amazing how it took 6 coins to get it done. Two of the coins have no mint mark? They just claim to be minted at San Francisco and West Point. Funny how the others have a corresponding mint mark as to where they came from. A few more years of this and I'll go back to sports cards. I guess the economy is booming everywhere else. My pockets are so much more empty now!
I still have the best PF69 set, so I shouldn't complain. I hope I don't run out of gas on my way home.
    G'nite all

    Is it really a PF70ER?
    Hello everyone,
I just received a 2011 Sac PF70ER in the mail, and was examining it when I found 2 tiny die cracks between 7 and 8 O'clock on the true reverse of the coin. The coin is definitely a 70, but I wonder if any more of you have noticed this. With the relatively small number of 70s, as compared to other years, might they qualify as a "mint error" also? If you have one or more, I'd like to know.
On another hand, are any of you sending in coins to be graded, and they are coming back with very low grades because fingerprints have been added while they were out of your control?
They all boast about how they can handle raw coins with bare hands, but they have to stop eating chips while grading. PCGS did the same thing, so they're all guilty. Their reply? "You must have sent it to us like that." While it was only a 69 when it went to them, they made it into a 65. All I can hope for now is silver going higher so I can melt it. I never open the capsules......I guess the Mint does it?
I scanned the cracks, but they're tiny. Let's hope we get a special slot?
    Good luck all!

There is a coin God afterall?
    Hello everyone,
As some of you know, a Presidential set of mine had moved from it's original spot. I asked NGC to look into it as I had entered the coins all on the same date.
Well, it took a little time, but alas, my set is back where it started.
I'd like to thank J. Garcia and those responsible for investigating and repairing this modification. I am happy to see my set back, and still glad that all of us can work things out.
I never expected to achieve a 164 ranking in these short years, but I am proud to have made it, before my collection is history.
Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement from friends here in the Society. I am not going away, just downsizing.
There is peace again in the valley.
    Happy collecting everybody!

    One day it's there....next day it's gone!
    Hello everyone,
I lost a set of my new 2011 Presidents to a modification by NGC. I had several coins for the slots that I entered on 1-28. I entered them all and shortly my top set was down on the list.
I now have one coin listed on 2-4-11. I didn't do it. I had my sets in order and left them, but now they do not reflect it.
Has anyone else had their sets "modified" without actually doing it themselves? I know another member has had it happen too. Last year was horrendous also. I will be so glad to get back to a few sets that are managable. Drop me a line if you too are having any problems with the system?
    Thanks

How can you pass up a good deal?
    Hello everyone,
As some of you know, I am trying to sell my collection and move on to other things. I have a few graded coins which are not entered into the Registry, but are of great numismatic and monetary value.
I spoke with the person at Heritage Auctions today, and asked if they'd either be interested in buying, or taking on consignment, one of these coins. They said that the lack of interest in New Zealand coins would not be worth buying, nor offering it at auction. Well, imagine that! I remember a year ago, I could buy a complete threepence set for the cost one coin, today. A decent Waitangi Crown in MS is over $10,000. Hmmmmmmm?
I do not see any justice, nor logic in their reasoning.
When you have the highest ever graded, is it worthless because no one wants it? I am almost glad to dissolve and downsize. Like everything, I hope they realize when they could have gotten it cheap.
Here's hoping you collect nothing but the best!

Some are blue labels and some are........
    Hi everyone,
It takes a bit of getting used to the new ER, blue labels. They do look great, and set the coin off with a brighter color. I also got my multiholders today, but alas, they are that same old boring burgundy. It says ER on the label, so I guess it's OK. I but the coin, and the label only states what's inside. I see the minor coins look great in the new label too!
May this trend continue and everyone get a set to put away.
Thanks to the members that helped me this year with my sets. I have a lot of great friends.
P.S. I entered my two ER Presidential sets on the same day and time. My set #2 is now at the top of the page, and #1 is sixth from the top. I didn't do it, but it sure cramps my collection. I compete for the best, have the best, and now lose it's place because the computer modifies my sets? I work hard to obtain my coins and organize my sets. It's a shame to get help when I don't need it. I have asked the set be reinstated to the top of the page where it belongs. We'll see shortly.

It's amazing what happened last year.
    Hey everybody,
Just a short note to let everyone know that their certificates will be arriving shortly.
I was amazed when I opened the envelopes. I didn't realize I had added more sets this past season. Pending the sale of most of my collection, I will not fare as well next year. Although the competition is great, I want to buy a home and relocate. My collection will become what the investment was meant for.
I will miss the rush every year, and will have less sets, but still good ones.
Congratulations to all those receiving acknowlegement for their work in the hobby. Thanks to NGC for the recognition.
    Keep up the good work.

    PCGS is catching up!
    Hi everyone,
Remember when you wanted to add a few PCGS coins, but they weren't available yet? A complete set of some would take almost the full year.
I see PCGS has 2011 proofs already graded and they are just barely out of the Mint. I am fortunate to have a few sets, and now I can enter them with the others as they come out. No more waiting months. It seems to make it easier for scanning and entering also.
I would love to have a few PCGS sets in 70, but at the prices they command, I am happy to have what I do. Most of my new dollar sets are done, and now come the commemoratives.
All in all, it's a great day for the collecting society. NGC has now over 60,000 sets and still growing. Maybe all the new coins are the rebirth of collecting. I hope it catches on with the younger folks. Xbox is not a hobby!
    Have a great week.

    How many did you get?
    Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone else is having trouble with the 2011 proof Presidents? I am thinking a 70 set is going to be tough. Let me know if you have sets in for grading?
    Thanks

Out of one year and off to the next.
    Hello everyone,
It's been a hectic year for me. I spend as much time in the hospital as I do with my coins. I have, however, added a few upgrades, and just tonight finished my #1 2007 Complete Proof set.
I wish everyone a prosperous coming year. I will try to keep my competetive sets at the top, even if they are for sale.
Have a great evening, and hope to see you all here, and writing in the journal, for a long time to come.
    Best Wishes,
    John

So many friends, so little time.
    Hello all!
I am overwhelmed by everyone's response. Friend and foe, alike.
I have to add a few answers to everyone that asked for certain coins, or sets.
If my collection sells before the Registry Awards, I will release everything for you to compete.
I do not wish to break up this collection. The quicker I liquidate, the quicker I can get other plans rolling. To my friends out of the US, I wish I could sell to you, but customs would flag the collection just by the volume. To my NZ friends, I appreciate all the help you gave me to establish some fine sets.
My coins will NOT go onto eBay! The fees would kill me, and PayPal only allows a partial payment. Send me an email for the site if you are seriously interested. The description will explain the sets I will be keeping, etc.
To all of my friends in New Zealand and Australia,
I am sorry if I let you down by putting my hard sought collection for sale.
Selling is something I will regret, but my future depends upon it. Competing with, (and against), other Society members will be missed.
If this collection isn't for you, perhaps you have a friend or acquaintance that would enjoy this hobby for fun, or investment?
    Thank you for the thrill.
I am really not going away. I am just going to be a "back burner" member. If the collection doesn't sell, I will probably entertain the thought of continuing at a lesser pace.
Keep up the good work, everyone. You have been a great inspiration.
Have a great time, and good luck with the 2010 Awards.

I have held on too long.
    Hello everyone,
Hopefully 2010 will be my last year of competing in the Registry.
I have had fun, and met a lot of nice friends. My sets are as good as I am going to make them. It is time to liquidate and persue other venues. I will hold one Sac proof set, a Prezzie proof, and my Proof Silver Eagles. My MS Eagle set, and the New Zealand Pennies will stay also. Everything else will go.....hopefully.
It's been a blast, and a challenge, to get as far as I have. A new owner will be able to take my sets and continue to build and compete, as I no longer care to.
Thanks to everyone that has helped and guided my collection. Thanks to the NGC people that worked out the kinks when they arose.
All in all, I'll still be here. A lot fewer sets, if they sell, than at present.
    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Just when I thought things were going good!
    Hello everyone,
I haven't entered into conversations or added anything significant to my collection.
I just got a prime coin back, and wouldn't you know it. The Registry is down. Oh well.....I can wait.
Congratulations to Todd for his diligence, and persistent attitude. It does pay off!
Well, I am off to find a few more winners for the December deadline......Planning ahead!
Good luck and happy collecting to all!

I love the way coins are graded too.
    Hello everyone.......oldies,goodies, and newbies
You shouldn't worry about the crappy silver Eagles. There are way too many to mean anything. I have them, but only so I can say that, truthfully. If you think they grade thouands of coins per week, and every coin is scrutinized by at least 3 graders and all use a 5x anything.......I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.
    HOW NAIVE ARE YOU PEOPLE???
We collect coins as a hobby.
They grade coins as a business.
DO THE MATH!!! MORE COINS=MORE MONEY
Try to get a "good" coin graded. See what you get then.
Check all the PF or PR 70 coins in either PCGS or NGC for the Canada $20 silver Commems. Not enough for one hand. A coin struck almost by hand, and handled as a piece of art rather than a coin, gets a 69 or lower? Most mintages are 25K or less too. It's a travesty to the process. Canada did get the Olympic medals too!
I just lost a 1 of 10 mintage, proof coin, graded a 64. It's too bad that between the grader and encapsulation, it got fingerprinted on both sides. I was offered $100 for it. It's $600+ raw. Try to find me another in OGP to send in. Mine now is mere scrap metal. You all worry(too much)about a lousy $35.00 coin that has more reputation than value. ASE set prices are tumbling.
I grant this. If you pay for a 70, you should get a "PERFECT COIN". If the trend of eyeball grading continues, the industry will suffer. DON"T BUY THEM!!! SEND THEM BACK UNTIL YOU GET A 70.
You want the coin, but they have your money. Time to switch things around. I am almost done with my sets. Raw coins are running out. I will update and upgrade as necessary with graded issues. All my dealers have a decent return policy, so I feel quite confident as to quality. Buying from reputable dealers is a key also.
I have some fine graded sets. Hopefully they will retain some value in the future. I feel badly for those that have to go through this, as I have been there.
NGC, PCGS, or whatever. If you don't like it......don't settle.
Buy the coin and not the slab. If it is mis-graded, they do have the BBB and Attorney Generals. Junk is junk. Caveat Emptor!
Keep up the good journals. I can see things are pretty much status quo.

I have some nice coins, but lousy imaging!
    Hi All!
At least I tried and didn't obscure my set.
My scanner is on vacation. It should be back today if I can get te error message to go bck to where it came from. My all-in-one did it, but what a lousy image for coins.
Not to worry. I will somehow get up and running to get these beauties redone and looking better.
I have my Canadians to image also.........whatta week this will be.
Thanks to the powers that put my sets up front!
Thanks to Dean for his nice words in his Journal post.
To him I say.....try catching me in PCGS slabs.....hehehe
    Happy collecting everyone!......
UPDATE!!!! SCANNER IS UP AND RUNNING! SCANS ARE DONE!

    I did very well
    Hello everyone!
Just a note of thanks to friends and foes alike. Here's to the people that made my sets what they are. Some won an award......some didn't. I will try to maintain the standards of collecting and improve in 2010.
Thanks to Sam,Todd,Don,and Rene for input and support. Dean too....sorry!
Thanks to NGC for doing this, and recognizing Society members for their achievements last year.
My certificates made me realize how lucky I really am to be a part of this.
    Thank you all!
    Congratulations to all!

    I'm one of them too.......to a point
    Hi all,

You guys are right. I have said it all along. Dealers can have any set they want. They only have to pay for the 69 and 70 grades in the proofs.....how sweet is that?
I give up trying to compete with NGC dealers. I finally went to PCGS for honest grades. I may lose to an NGC set, but my coins are still mine, and I'll put them up against the finest grades in any other slab. Yes, my sets have blue slabs in them now. I used to hate PCGS too.
No one did New Zealand coins until two of us started a few sets of circulated coins, and NGC ran us out the door. Excuses of won't grade, can't grade, and purple slabs became commonplace.
I have a passion for the NZ coins. I've made a lot of new friends and even belong to the NZCCA. I spent all last year looking and grading the QEII penny set for the competition. I had the best set(still do)until big money bought grades from NGC to pass me in the last 20 minutes before the deadline.
The scoring for NZ coins is too far off on the varieties. An AU50 is not an AU58. It gets the same points though? A PF65 and a PF70 Silver Eagle get the same too?
No imaging and no descriptions should disqualify a set too. Dealers have so many coins they can't be bothered showing off their prized possessions.
Did I get robbed this year? Sure! Am I pissed? Sure!
Do I have the #1 set now? Yup! Do I have images and descriptions? Go look......that's what I image them for. I have them all. You can only see what I am willing to show you.
I am proud of my coins, NGC and PCGS alike. My sets are for all to see. I obscured a few(temporarily), while I am working on them.
NGC needs to revamp the Registry. Dealer's sets and Collectors's
sets. We can't enter in theirs, and guess what........?
PCGS even has a Poor Man's collection. You cannot enter a MS coin. Only AU and down. They also need to end the grading discrimination towards the little guys and World coins. My worst Canadian PF68 is better than a PF70 Eagle, but........
Dealers make their money on high end coins......period.
I don't have $100 grand to compete with them either.
I'll take my PCGS MS64 and say it might be a MS66 in NGC, but I'll do it the hard way! I'll earn my #1
    Thanks

    What a ripoff!
    Hello everyone!
I guess you knew my two Lincolns were coming.
FedEx is a joke. I had my subscriptions, expressed from the Mint facility (Indianapolis), and it took 13 days.
I can walk almost that far in 13 days.
The shipment went by my area, and went to MA. It sat there for the weekend. Then it took two days from their terminal to me. Did I get a refund on shipping? What do you think?
Did I cancel my subscriptions with the Mint? What do you think?
My seven day return policy was in question also. I sent sets back three times, at my expense, and still had to buy a few from friends. The Mint sent the sweepings off the floor, and fingerprints to prove it.
If you collect raw coins, use the Mint. If you collect graded coins, buy them already done. It is so much less stressful.
I am tired paying for things and services I don't get. Those that know me, already knew that!
Humans are involved, and they're subject to mistakes. If you think your coins are worth stealing, use U-PIC insurance. That's
    www.u-pic.com. (someone asked)
It isn't on the postal label. I send coins almost everywhere, and never a problem. I actually rely on the integrity of the USPS.
Well, I used a whole Jefferson, but that's my side of it.
    Great collecting to everyone!
