Just because you own the coin doesnt mean.......
    Hi everyone,
    I recently discovered something new.
NGC certification verification has images. Nice images of the coin you are checking.
NGC now images every coin that is certified and processed. That has wonderful meaning to those that require adequate proof beyond a reasonable doubt. This is amazing off-site data storage.
The insurance companies will have to pay up now on coin thefts.
The one thing I liked about the images, is that I thought I could enter the coin, with a description, and be finished.
Whoaaaaaa! Not so fast! You may have the coin, and a receipt, but you aren't getting the photo. Oh no, that isn't yours. Amy says it belongs to NGC. It is proprietary! That's a big word that Amy knows what it means.
Remember that camera guy? Now he has to get involved with imaging your coin for the Registry.
You ain't gettin' it for free, Pilgrim.
After a pleasant conversation with her, I understood completely.
She also straightened out my dyslexic fingers from working on coins at 3:00 AM.
I feel like that Emmitt Smith commercial......."REJECTED"
If you've never heard from Amy, you either get it right 100% of the time, or you don't list too many coins at 3:00AM.
It is quite refreshing to be informed and updated on this newest technology.
I guess the moral of the story is......
If you want to have images of your coins, either pay $3.00 each when they're graded, or buy a good scanner and DIY.
With all that said, I'm outta here.
Good Day and thanks again to Amy

    Could this be the reason?
    Hello everyone!
I was just looking at a few world coins and here's whats for sale in Italy.
Only 10,000 minted, so we may have a chance to get a handfull for
    the W collectors.
I didn't check the Chinese site.

    I can only imagine.
    Have a nice day!

    The results are in!
    Hello everyone!
The trial is over. The 8 Sacagawea PF 70 coins I sent to PCGS for crossover are done!
You all had your ideas and preferences. My $1,500.00 set is now a little less than $500.
I will also lose a #1 Registry set this year. I hope everyone that gripes about the two grading companies, now has a different perspective.

Now you know why PCGS is more expensive than NGC. They have fewer 70s.
    Not a PF 70 in 8 submissions!
Here's the official page from PCGS:

These all went to PCGS in NGC PF 70 Ultra Cameo slabs.
I'll have them back next week....I guess.
The results made up my mind.
I just finished another NGC World coin submission form.
Oh.....and now I'll have to re-enter them again! More scans too?
See what I do for the good of the Society?.....
Have a great evening and weekend!

It didn't take a blind man to see this!
    Hello everyone!
    Just a quick note.
I got both Braille Commemoratives this morning, and they will be at NGC tomorrow.
Not for anything, but I have already accepted the facts of grading.
The uncirculated is MS 69, and the proof is PF 70UC. The uncirculated coin has a lot of tiny dings. It may have too many for even MS68.
All that wait, and I got a blem. Oh well....I can always upgrade on ebay for half of what this will cost me.
I sent some old stuff too.
I hope all members that received the uncirculated Brailles have better luck than I.
    Good Luck and happy hunting!
Anyone get the HABS coins yet?
I guess they'll go to NGC next.

This will at least please someone.one coin, one
    Hello fellow collectors.....friend and foe.
Like it or not.......some members of the Society have chosen the member they feel has the most need. I honored that consensus and passed on the funds.
Like it or not, we may save a member. We are all here for the same reason. No members, no Society.
I want to thank the members that stepped up to the challenge. I'd like to thank all that emailed me with support, ideas, or actual donations.
If this saves just one coin, it will have been worth it.
My offer still stands until the need subsides.
More and better ideas are coming every day. Let's hope we can get throught this without destroying some great dedication.
Members helping members.....one at a time.
I am proud to be a member of this Society.
I am proud to have met so many great people.
    Thanks to all!
    Let's keep on collecting!
    God bless!

I cannot believe any of this!
    Hello to all!
I cannot believe a act of kindness or generousity is so poorly taken.
I see some members cannot read, and the others didn't comprehend what they read.
I am not selling coins using the Society as a vehicle. I donated a few coins for a cash donation. I stood up and offered all I could. Another member stands up and commits. Members helping members. Have I lost someone yet?
I can put coins on Ebay, Bonanzle, Craig's list, Amazon, or other venue.
I can try to get whatever is offered, pay outrageous fees, and send a half a loaf to someone that needs a little help. WOW! That defeats the purpose!
Some Bozo wants to pay a bargain basement price for good coins to get another feedback or whatever?
I am giving my coins - NOT SELLING !!!
I asked Society members first, because it effects us. That's right! You, me and all the rest. This is supposed to be for the betterment of the hobby.
No one cried when I asked for help with a coin or a set, but I guess this is a different kind of help. I must have been raised differently.
If you want to quote scripture.....and I'm not good at it, but.....
I remember something about the bread cast upon the water being returned 10 fold.
I guess there are a few willing to make this work. I see there are also a few that could care less as long as they have their coins secured. May they never have to walk in our footsteps.
I wish I could give more. Im glad some can still give without a wimper.
My Dad told me this " If you don't have something good to say, say nothing at all".
Have a great evening and God bless!

    Deal or no deal?
    Hello everyone!
Just to clear up the fine print.
The few coins I offered in my last Journal are NOT for sale!
I have an Ebay account. I buy and sell there.
The coins were, and are being offered as a donation for a fixed sum.
I offered them to Society members first. I will give up my coins if another member gives up the cash. A fair gesture?
If a member wants to help, it is up to them. My coins are just something to negate the thought of a charity thing.
If no member wants to help, my coins will be happy right where they are.
I may have ruffled a few feathers, but I want the record set straight. I didn't create this lousy economy!
I may not have been here long, but I am proud of my membership.
I have respect for the time and effort it takes to be in this hobby. I also respect the money it took.
On another note: Welcome back SchatzyJr.
    Thank you

    The price is right?
I will sweeten the pot too!Good Evening fellow collectors! As I am only known here for what I write, it is time to take the initiative.I am hereby tossing the gauntlet, so to speak. My last journal was for the preservation of collectors as well as preserving a cherished collection. I have made up my mind as to one alternative.I have 1 of 2 sets which I can offer for sale to help a fellow collector through a tough time.I have a 2009 Territorial quarter set in NGC PF 70 UC. All 12 coins from either of my registered Renegade sets.I also have a complete PCGS 2002 PR69DCAM proof set(17 coins) also registered in the Registry. CURRENT STANDINGSRank: 34Score: 366 Points to next rank: 6 Leading by: 0NumisMedia Total(?): $491.25Date Score Achieved: 2/28/2009Views: 63This would be your second option. These are in my collection now! Some of you newer collectors are looking for sets. Some of the others are looking for upgrades. Guess what? There's a set price. $500.00 for either.Cash, check, money order, or PayPal. It's your choice. Here's the deal. You pay me, and I pass it through. No fees, no percentage, no nothing. I am donating to the cause!I may be able to put an MS 69 Eagle, 2008/07 error into the mix also. Same price....same deal. Here's the rules.......1.) First $500.00 gets choice. The sooner the better.2.) The funds are not mine. No BS. 3.) The price is NOT negotiable. This is NOT an auction.4.) I will need your address to mail your choice. I am offering this to save another collector's set/s.I may be the first to ever do this for someone in this Society.May I not be the only one to step up.God bless the first to respond and fulfil this request.Dig deep.....it might be you ......next!Update as of 21:49 Eastern DST:A fourth option is the Abe Lincoln Commemoratives in MS and PF 70.These have the "brown" limited pedigree. They are not in my set at present. I can send imaging if requested. Update as of 22:08 EDST:I will donate all above items. First $2,000. takes them all!Thank you

    That's exactly what it is!
    Hello all!
It is on a somber note I address the Society.
The economy has struck the heart and sole of our collecting society.
Being a new(and little guy), I can do a lot of the newer coins in lesser grades. I can get results and complete sets quicker and cheaper than those seeking perfection.
I come now to a depressing situation.
A few collectors, more serious and committed to the hobby, than I, have fallen on hard times. These aren't people like me with one year's time invested. They have years, if not decades.
A devotion that most cannot comprehend.
Should the mistakes of others make them lose their possessions?
Should a collector, with years of putting something together, be a victim of the economy?
Should pride and joy be sacrificed for these hard times?
    I say "NO"
One may be able to replace the coins, but not the memories.
Here is some food for thought.
1.) There is someone in this Society with the money to "help".
2.) There could be fund in place to help save member's collections.
3.) A "safe haven for storage of a collector's items until repayment made available to all.
4.) A person or persons to maintain records of these transactions.
All this is far fetched to me. It would be above any expectations. It would all have to hinge on the membership of the Society. With 15,000 plus members, we should be able to come up with something?
SOS takes on a new meaning?
    SAVE OUR SETS!
I'll sell a set of something to help out!

    And issues they are!
In stock and reserved?Hello everyone!I know you're chomping at the bit for the Mint to release the long awaited pair of 2009 L. Braille Commemoratives.Well, they are going to be a little late. How late will they be, you ask? Over a month past the scheduled release date(3-26) ....so far. They are now saying April 30th for the 2. They have been "in stock and reserved" for a month. What gives with this?I wonder who'll get the first of the run. Will I get my subscribed pair, or will the phone in orders take precedence? If they don't have enough 90% silver blanks.....then what?I wish they'd do a Paul Revere Commem. Maybe a UHR? With silver on the obverse, and copper on the reverse, the coin might come with a tiny handle to make a frying pan. Just a thought!!I guess we'll have to send in our early Eagles so they can make the new ones?......sheesh.Maybe they could strike 2009 over 1989 and make them all errors?I'm glad I'm not the production manager at the Mint.If there are no 2009 W Eagles....don't blame me. I can't even get my Brailles. Woe is me!I may start smoking and biting my nails.....C'mon Mint!!!

    I couldn't be more pleased.
    Hello all!
A quick note of thanks for all of the replies on my Canadian snowflake.
I was starting to search when I was inundated with so many helpful replies from all the great members in this Society.
I now understand that I can get it graded, but there is, at present, no slot for this "embellished" coin.
I have Sacagaweas...I know about a "no points" coin.
Just the same, I now own one. I also want to thank everyone in unison.
    THANK YOU ALL!
I find it amazing that even in these trying times, a person can take time out to help another.
I see pre-sales of the Braille Commemoratives listed on Ebay already.
The Mint has no idea if they will be able to produce a single one, but they're already selling them.
I guess some will tie up their money for over a month. Thirty days with no return, except for a refund, minus the PayPal fee......woohoo.
Please do not make the mistake I just made.
    A million thanks again.
    Have a happy!

  12. namvette68
Here's what I get for impulse shopping.
    Hello again everyone.
I just got carried away and bought a coin that caught my eye.
    It's a Canadian Snowflake?
I dunno......my French is lousy too.
It's a $20 silver proof with 7 Swarovski crystals. One clear in the center of the reverse, and 6 amethyst crystals in the snowflake.
It is supposedly .9999 silver? Mintage is 7500.
I need some Canadian coin expetise on this one.
1.) How big is this coin in diameter?
    2.) What does it weigh?
3.) Is it gradable by NGC?
4.) Is there a slot for these if it is graded?
5.) I paid $108.00 for it. Is it worth it?
This is a true instance where I bought the coin. I hate raw coins, but I have had good luck with them.
If you enjoy the same warped sense of beauty I am blessed with, you'll be happy to know that it's also available in sapphire blue!
    So much for impuse purchases.
    Happy collecting eh?

  13. namvette68
I got a big box in the mail today!
    Hey everyone!
All it had inside was a silver eagle.
I guess it was worth the trip up to the mailbox.
Some guys have all the luck.
I hope everyone has a day like mine!

  14. namvette68
Beauty is in the eye of the NGC holder?
    Hello all!
Just a quick note, and scan, of my first PF 70 submission.
    It's the 1986 Statue of Liberty 50c.
It wasn't such a bad deal. It cost me $5.50 in an airtite.
Another $20 bucks for shipping and grading.
    Voila......a $106.25 beauty.
My Abes made MS&PF 70 also. Am I happy?....you betcha.
Well, I just thought I'd share some good news with everyone.
Thanks NGC, Amy, Lisa, and Sarah? I know there's a lot more!
    Good luck everyone!

  15. namvette68
To be, or not to be? We'll have the answer shortly!
    Hello fellow collectors!
Well, I went and did it.
I sent out 8 of my Sacagawea PF 70 set to PCGS for crossover grading.
It may take up to 30 days for the results. They don't have the turn-around times like NGC.
My PCGS membership......yes, I am a member there too, allows me 8 free submissions. I took advantage of all 8.
I know there are some that do not like having PCGS slabs in the Society's Registry.
I bought the coins for one reason.
Once and for all, we may finally see if these 2 independent grading companies are on the same page.
Either way, I will have the coins, and retain them for the future.
It's just a question of what color slab they'll be in.
As always, you'll be the second to know!
I wish the new pennies were so easy.
    Good Collecting everyone!
  16. namvette68
2009 may be a disaster for the Silver Eagle?
    Hi all.....again!
I just looked again at the Mint website, and took a pair of paragraphs of their Eagle page. It is as follows:
    American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin
"Production of United States Mint American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins has been temporarily suspended because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. Currently, all available silver bullion blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin Program, as the United States Mint is required by Public Law 99-61 to produce these coins ?in quantities sufficient to meet public demand . . . .?
"The United States Mint will resume the American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coin Programs once sufficient inventories of silver bullion blanks can be acquired to meet market demand for all three American Eagle Silver Coin products."
Let's hope they get some silver before 2010? It would be like the year the Yankees lost the pennant.
Well......in case you weren't informed, you have a little more now.
    Hasta la vista!

  17. namvette68
    He who hesitates..........remember that one?
    Hi all!
Just a quick note tonight. I mentioned when I upgraded my 2008/07 Eagle error to a 70, I had the MS 69 for sale.
Thanks to you members or your friends, I was fortunate enough to sell it promptly. Unfortunate for Tim, though. I am sorry.
Thanks to being a society member, there is a prestige and it seems that now I have a small following.
All I wanted to say is. If I have something offered from an upgrade to my sets, if you want it.....grab it. Like the Sham-wow guy. I can't do this forever.
I am constantly switching coins and sets, so keep looking.
My last submission should be here tomorrow.
    Photos to follow.....shortly!
Happy Collecting everyone, and special thanks(again) to Amy!
  18. namvette68
In by 9 out by 5?
    Hello all!
I just got the shipping notice from NGC on my last submission.
    Turn around times are phenomenal.
My 1959 proof set did well.
A 1986 Statue of Liberty half, made PF 70 UC. I paid 6 bucks for it raw!
Both Abes took a 70. I will have them before a reputable dealer gets mine back to me since 2-12. So much for presales.
I also got straight PF 69s on the Prezzies. Not too shabby.
I also did a better scan of my 1911 D Lincoln cent.
I have an extra 2008/07 Eagle in MS69 if anyone is interested.....10% off Numismedia?
    Enjoy collecting.
It's the change that we were told was coming.....except ours is graded!

  19. namvette68
ALL 12 COINS AND THE PICS TO PROVE IT!
    Hello everyone!
It took some string pulling, but if you want to see them, I have all 12 of the Territorial quarters(with pics).
I missed being #1 because I had to wait until I had photo proof.
I could have thrown anything in there and obscured it, but I think not!
The 1st, 12 coin Territorial set. to be shown in the NGC Registry.......Enjoy all!

  20. namvette68
    An impossible dream?
    Hi everyone!
I have been so busy with looking for a new place to live, I have neglected my latest purchases a bit.
My original goal was to make it to 500th ranking in the NGC Registry.
My other was to acquire the MS 69, 2008/07 Silver Eagle.
My third(and actual prority)was to add the 1995 W Silver proof to complete my original set(PF 69).
Thankfully I have accomplished my goal for the year!
As always, the competition gets tougher the higher you get. I recently received a Sacagawea set in NGC PF 70 Ultra Cameo.
    YES, another!
I have it registered as a trial set for good reason. This will be the set I send to PCGS for crossover grading.
    Notice I said trial?
That is not what I am writing about though.
Today, with the addition of the new Sacs, I have hit #400.
I have been so lucky. I never expected to be here, or have a collection of more than the few Silver Eagles I started with.
These are good days in light of all that is happening. I will also share a 1911-D RD Lincoln cent with you in a few days. I am hoping it to be crossed into an NGC slab soon. If it grades as a variety, I will be in collector's heaven.
I guess for every bad move we make, a good one is bound to come along. I just wish I could cut down on the bad.
    Wish me luck.
    Have a great day!!!
  21. namvette68
Free security is hard to pay for.
    Hello all....again!
My computer crashes, burns, gets stolen with my coins, decides to elope, or other, heres what makes NGC Registry so great.
I joined the Registry for one main reason. SAFETY!
With safety comes security. Where else can you register every graded coin you own (NGC/PCGS)?
They let me do it for free......yes free!
If everything was to be gone in the morning, I could go to the NGC Registry site, log in, and download every registered coin I owned. I can do this from anywhere in the world too! This is the remote site you have (well some have) taken for granted.
You can get a print out, hand it to the authorities, and within minutes, your coins go on the "hot sheet"
And it's FREE! The inventory system also calculates value. You can use the system to figure net worth. FREE!
So your coins take a few extra days in quality control. So you get huffy with the USPS. The minute NGC finishes your coins, you're covered.
Just when you think that all may be lost? Call Lisa or Amy.
They can fix almost anything. Oh....and it's still free!
So you got a PF68 instead of a 70? There's always SGS or another.
    Try getting into their registry......
If it weren't for the security that membership in the Society provides, I'd have to buy a safe....and a pitbull.....and a shotgun.....the list goes on forever.
Thank you NGC for peace of mind.....and for FREE!

Why is one little number so big?
    Hi everyone!
I am finally reaching a plateau in collecting. I started with ASEs in NGC PF 69. I added the MS set in 69. I have been very fortunate to have been able to keep up to date.
A few good things, and friends, have happened in the last 8 months.
I have been able to add a set or two in PF 70.
I have been lucky(with help) to complete my "W"eird 30 coin quarter set and start another.
Now I have reached a plateau.
I have some nice sets. The older are all in PF or MS 69. It's now time to improve.
Being an investment, rarity is not something I look for. I have started to replace a few of the coins in my sets. I figure if I do a couple at a time, I can succeed.
I just went out on a limb and added 5 PF 70s to my "W" Statehood Quarters.
I was fortunate to get the "king" of ASEs this summer. The 1995 W in PF 69. That wasn't an upgrade, but it finished my set.
I would love to afford all 70s, and the prestige, but this is supposed to be a "hobby"(obsession spelled incorrectly).
My most recent addition is the 2008/07 Eagle in MS 70. I now have the 69 for sale.
This December I set a goal of being ranked 500 in the Registry.
Due to some help, and prodding, from members and friends, I have made it handily. A milestone I am proud of.
With all of you commenting and advising, I am well ahead of any dreams I ever had. I can see 400 in the near future.
Of couse, the Mint has helped with a jillion new coins every year now. As you know, I need 14 Sacagaweas just to keep up to date.
Thanks to all of you, I have never been so happily broke.
Keep up the good work, and I'll try to maintain the spirit of collecting.
With another box of goodies on it's way to NGC, I'll say
    Good Night!
May you dream of 70s and complete sets.

2 simple ways to protect your coins.
    Hi everyone!
    This will probably upset most.
Bring a smile to some, and
Get a few to actually do something.
    Method #1)
Put all your coins in Intercept Shield boxes. Most people don't know what they are. Even most collectors. Leave the boxes on a bookshelf in you den or living room. No one will even be curious enough to ask.
    Method #2)
Put all your coins in a tube, pipe, or heavy safe. Put them into a small room as a den playroom etc.
Replace the woofer in all of your stereo speakers with Claymores.
Wire them to a PSD, or other exotic device, and attach it to your choice of storage. DO NOT!, I repeat, DO NOT! place the Claymores in with your coins.
The second part to this coin security system is to keep a fully loaded .50cal Desert Eagle under your pillow. If the Claymores go off, you can always invoke your Second Ammendment rights.
Believe me, you will be wide awake if intrusion is attempted.
It might also be a good idea to put a plaque on the door reading, "Expensive Coin Storage Area".
I don't know about others, but I know that Method #1 works for me.
    I still don't lock my doors.....ever.
    Sweet dreams everyone!

    Bullion isn't always salty!
    Hi everyone!
I guess it's my turn for an opinion. Gold is not always gold.
The IRS says it has to be pure for an IRA. Silver too! No sterling or 90% coin silver. It has to be .999 fine.
If you have 3 or 4 pounds of 18k gold lying around, you ain't broke. You cannot write it off though.
In order to write off precious metals (bullion) as an IRA you must to give it to someone to hold. You are not allowed immediate or easy access to it. I guess I'll have to find someone to hold the 3 thousand UHRs I have stashed......NOT!
If everything goes in the toilet, I will still have something that speaks the universal language. Precious metal and gemstones. Every culture in the past has used them.
Let's hope we don't have to go that far!
I like my coins and stones just the way they are.
I'd say my portfolio is a little over 25% invested in these. I wish I could do more.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
