    Can you ever be sure?
    Hi everyone!
I was just looking to see if all my latest submissions made 70s, when I saw cvcc's journal.
I guess it happens to everyone sooner or later. I have done what I can to prevent environmental damage.
These slabs, regardless of grading company, are not perfect. They do a fine job of physically protecting the coin, but airborne contaminants are just that. They infiltrate places nothing else can go. I see 2009 coins already toning in slabs.....why?
    They aren't sealed.......
They may look intact, but can you test a slab for possible infiltration? Simply.......NO
Can you do anything to help prevent damage? YES!
I use Intercept Shield boxes and envelopes. A Lucent Technologies product, they claim to have the answer to environmental damage by gaseous infiltration.
I do not sell their product/s ,but I surely use them on every coin I can put them into.
My Sacs and Prezzies are highly susceptible to damage and early toning. The Canadian "bronze" plated coins too!
It costs more for this protection, but until something better comes along, I feel somewhat confident.
I have about 35 boxes, and need about 20 more, soon.
I have a source that I can direct you to if you like. I have no affiliation other than a friend and fellow collector.
I don't have priceless coins, but I cannot replace a lot of them, so.......
"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".
Between slab integrity and Intercept Shield, I am hoping my collection will look good in another 100 years...even if I don't!
Maybe this might save someone else's getting into cvcc's shoes in the future.
Wish me 70s for my Sacs.
I wish you all 70s for the rest.

    and 3 days
    Hello fellow collectors!
It's a year for me too! Plus a few days, but who's counting.
Just remember one thing.......it's all your fault.
Every member of this Society is to blame for my addiction to this hobby.
A year ago I started to enter a few NGC graded Silver Eagles and my PF 70 2006 Franklin Commems. It was a great place to keep my meager sets in order and an excellent "offsite" data base.
As a few of you remember(and some wish to forget)I became a paying member a while later. When a Society member(anonymous for good reason) asked me if I was entering any sets for competition.
Competition? You guys compete? For money? For prizes? For what?
    I found out soon enough.
I had to learn about coins, and sets, and timing, and grading and.........yada, yada, yada.
I had some sets working, but nothing worth entering.
PRESTO!!! The magic of this Society came to be.
A little encouragement. Some great advice. A few great deals from a few great members, and voila!
I made 2 sets with a #1 rating in 2008. Two beautiful certs for framing. Not too shabby?
You all started the fire, a conflagration of sorts.
I worked my butt off to get a few more worthy coins. I quit smoking to get a 70 where a 69 would have been. I was aided by great members/dealers with a few super deals on coins to finish my work.
My New Year's resolution was to be fortunate enough to maintain my 2 award winning sets for this year's deadline. I dreamed and hoped to make it to a 500 ranking.
I have been very fortunate. My sets have improved. I have added a few new sets, and diversified a bit. I made it to 500. I have taken advice. I have given advice. I asked you for help and to help a few others. I got it too. Members helping members. Proud members too.
Like me, hate me, whatever you will. It's all your fault!
I have opened a few eyes. I have dropped a few jaws. I have raised eyebrows, and shut a few mouths. I have done it. I have reached my goals, and almost too easily.
It's still all your fault. Without you, there would be no competition. Competition is the basis for the comradery.
You're all to blame for me wanting the better sets.
Without you, I'd just have a few coins and no one to relate to.
At my age, I shouldn't be so enthusiastic, or agressive, but....
you did it. I try to get more members into it too.
I've done a lot of worse things in my life, and spent money more unwisely. I bet you have too?
Two words can sum this first year's experience.
    THANK YOU!

I told you they don't know the difference either.
    Hi Everyone!
I just couldn't resist this one too.
    Here's an ongoing(Australian)auction description.
My eyes aren't seeing what my mind says I am reading.
"Nice beginners rare variety coin. Oh so hard to obtain and frankly the higher grades are very difficult to tell.
Called burnished as the flan was specially treated in the Royal London Mint to ensure that the pennies would be dull black to discourage people from hoarding in the World War II times. These flans were meant for the British coins and got mixed up with a batch of coins being minted for New Zealand.
The low grade coins such as this are easier to tell as they have a yellowish/brown effect on the low exposed parts of the flan, whereas the legends are usually blacker."
    OK.....you're turn!
    Blacker??
Did it lose something in translation?
I am no expert, but I can play one on TV?
    Oh.....a P.S. It's only $55.00 on a BIN

  4. namvette68
I see experts are like playoffs. Don't get me started on playoffs.
    Hello everyone!
I hope everyone had a happy, and safe 4th.
I tried a week ago to query the braintrust of the Society, and I am still as baffled as before.
    HELP!!!
I recently acquired a box of pre-decimal New Zealand coins. There are a few 1945 pennies. I'd like to send them to NGC for grading, however, there is also a slot for the 1945 "burnished flan" coin?
How does one tell the difference? KM#s are 13 and 13A. I cannot find a definitive characteristic, that unequivocally separates them.
    How are these so different?
I have some Aussie friends, and have asked a dozen Kiwis, to show me how to tell, and they cannot.
New Zealand coin dealer secret too?
I guess you had to be at the mint when they were struck? No help from the books either. I have checked about a dozen, and some don't even mention them.
I guess if I send a "burnished" 1945 to NCS first it will come out a nice 1945?
It is nice of Krause to throw a few numbers up in the air and not know a thing about what they land upon.
PCGS doesn't even recognize a variety of this coin.
According to population reports, there are none graded?
It's almost like the elusive 1992 Olympic $15 Canada plain rim coins. The Canadians don't even know about them.
    I guess I'll have to start a #1 set of non-existent coins?
I am hoping someone will be able to help me out there.
Show me either coin, and I'll start to consider their existence.
Show me how to identify a burnished 63 year old coin and I will try it.
Until then I'll see if Tom Landry or Bill Parsells have a clue.
Oh, my replacement proofs came from the Mint. I don't need an expert to tell me to send them back. Postage is killing me on this junk. I hope they get it right by the time they start screwing around with the silver sets. It would be a shame to waste good silver on quarters when they need it for Eagles.
If they make proof coins solely for collectors, why are they so
    poor in quality?
I guess I have to buy a graded set to have anything nice.
I hope no one else has these problems, but I am getting fed up with the system.
I do know the answer to this week's trivia though. That was by accident.
Will the real coin experts please stand up?
Oh.....I sent one 1945 in as a "burnished" coin. Now prove it isn't!
    Have a great weekend!

  5. namvette68
A lot of bucks for a possible 42 point set?
    Hi everyone!
42 points is the lowest they'll grade. It's a 14 coin circulated series.
I was going through some sets of world coins and realized some slots could be filled by some that I have amassed.
I had to buy a few to get the set complete.(I have learned to accept whatever grades I get), but at least it will be 100%.
I will be replacing my 1960 1c large date soon. I kept the one I had as a not so fond memory and a wasted grading.
Sacs did well. Friends are great to have.
Almost everything is caught up so I can finally breathe a sigh of relief again.
I'll be ridding myself of my modern commemorative dollars soon. I want to diversify, so out they go. This asset isn't worth the liability.
Canadians are doing well, but NGC is a little stingy with 70s.
I just got some unopened beauties and hopefully low numbered strikes. I will be flooding the market with a bunch of PF 68 and PF 69 Canadian's soon.
I see the 4 pennies did well for those selling them on ebay.
I had my hands in my pockets to get the best Sacagaweas I could for this year. My sets of PF70 Sacs are now where they should be.
I see a lot of friends, and a few new faces are moving ever closer in the Registry. Great job!
Well, when my set comes back, don't expect me to move up. I just felt sorry for the little things and gave them a new home.
The eBid site is going through growing pains. It's a good thing I don't have to pay for listing when it's down for repairs. Best move I ever made. I have 1 coin on eBay for the second time. It already cost me more than a month at eBid.
Well folks, I promised myself to upgrade some coin scans and I put it off long enough.
I might consider trades on my $1 Commem set.
    Have a great week!

Third time is always a charm!
    Hi everyone!
Well, I totally vented this morning.
My PF 63, 1960 LD, Lincoln, 1C is gone!!!
I admired that coin so much, I put it out of my misery on the third shot.
At my age I guess shaking is bound to happen. Still not bad for 100 yards........and my Eagle.
Oh.....it used to be the coin on the right in a former journal.....
Congrats to those with the correct answer!
Not to worry though. I bought 5 more PF 70s to submit. I guess grading Braille coins has become contageous?
    We'll see shortly!
    I did salvage the label!

  7. namvette68
I know times are bad, but c'mon!!!
    Hello everyone!
Well, to start things off, my mail lady left a note in the box Saturday morning. It said she missed me at home. She did?
I was up at 06:00 and waited for her until noon.
Zip, zilch, nothing, nada! She never showed. I have to wait until Monday morning!
It was only a few commemorative coins for my sets from 2001-2003.
They have never been opened, and they should get good grades.
I got them and opened the package.........2 out of the 5 were the wrong coins. One was opened, but it looks pristine, however I have 2 of them already.
My last 2 submissions to NGC came out pretty good. Mostly PF 69.
    No complaints there.
I went to WalMart on both Saturday and Sunday. Again.....zip,zilch,nada! No new coins.....AT ALL!
I did find a new penny in the parking lot of the truckstop up the street. What is going on here folks?
I received my clad proofs from the Mint. They're on the way back.
They looked worse than the penny I found lying on the ground. I asked for the overnight shipping, and they show up the same day my graded 2009 proofs from NGC? Mail from Australia is faster than that!
Oh......I asked NGC to put the serial number of my 5 Canadian coins on the label. NOPE!!! I sent the COA for each, but no good.
I guess I'll have to settle with the vanity of having my name put on them.....how crude?
On the bright side..........I got a BU 1943 Australian three pence with a Denver mint mark. Yes, Denver, like in Colorado!
Of course there is no set to put it in, but I will have it graded. It is a very nice coin!
I am hoping tomorrow will be a turn around day. I got a few sales on eBid, and high fees on eBay. I will post one last time on eBay and that's it! My 1987 proof Loons go away! Someone will want them someday.
Good luck to all those hoping for 70s.
Congratulations to Nicholas for selling 4 PF 70 pennies for over $1,300.00.
$300.00+ each for the new pennies? My 2008 PF 70 pales by comparison.
  8. namvette68
The mint works in strange and mysterious ways.
    Hi Collectors!
I personally could care less about the new coins. I have had a few ask me about them , and I've told them that our(upstate NY)banks will not order the new coinage. They don't need it.
The only place I have received anything new is WalMart.
Yup!!!!! the biggest cash flow in today's economy.
NGC has a paragraph about it too.
As most of you know, I am hot on the proof Sacs. These were to replace the paper note in 2000-2001. It didn't really catch on.
Ikes,SBAs, even the Presidents will not work until they get rid of the notes.
Here is what NGC said about the Sacs. The new coins seem to be seeing the same outlet.
"Both the Philadelphia and Denver Mints are striking the Sacagawea Dollar for general circulation, while proofs of this coin are made at the San Francisco Mint. Though the U. S. Mint had not intended to issue the circulating coins until March of 2000, the great interest shown in them prompted an innovative distribution program that was launched in mid-January. The initial delivery of Sacagawea Dollars was made to the nationwide chain of Wal-Mart stores, the retailer agreeing to furnish the coins to anyone seeking them, as well as issuing them in change for purchases. A more general distribution was made shortly thereafter through the conventional channels of the federal reserve banks".
    WalMart si.......bankie no!
And now you know the rest of the story

I am glad to see it's not just me having trouble!
    Hello everyone!
I have been trying to see my 1960 large date Lincoln 1c with the NGC verification tab. All I get for 3 days is image is not available. I thought they may not have imaged it.
When the Sacs were done I looked to see them and they all looked great!
Now nothing!.....There are no images available at all.
My scanner is out on loan for a week while another collector catches up with his coins.
That's my fault for being Mr. Niceguy
I have to use generic photos, in everything, for a week?
I am relieved to see that this happens to everyone, at times, regardless of stature.
I am hoping to be back imaging by Saturday.
Hopefully, NGC is back up and running soon too.
    GOOD LUCK!
    News at 13:30! IT'S WORKING!!!
For those that care to look at my penny, it's 2533790-006.
NGC imaging isn't the greatest, but........it still looks pretty good.
  10. namvette68
Even a 67 would have been great!
    Hi all!
I sent a very nice graded cent to NGC for grading. It was done already by a well known third party grading company. People buy their coins every day! I got it for $2.50. I said to myself.......Self....why not?
So I did. I cracked out a 70 and hoped for a 68. Losing 2 grades is to be expected even with a very nice specimen. As you can see, I was wrong. I will have 2 options when I get it in hand.
Laugh until I cry, or throw it in the "Goodwill box" on the corner.
I hate to say so, but it looked nice enough to take a chance at a 68. My 2009 nice new proofs are going back to the junkyard that sent them. I'd be embarrassed to send them for grading. Between scratches and finger prints, they are already hazed and look like they're 10 years old. I am ashamed to show them to anyone.
I need a 2009 NGC PF 70 dime like now!
Email me if you have one?
Thanks for your ears, and Jeffrey?
I do a lot of crazy things....if you haven't noticed!
    G'Nite All

  11. namvette68
Today totally wiped out yesterday......obliterated it!
    Hi all!
    Time for me to vent!
I cracked out a PF70 and sent it in for grading. It is now a PF 63. Oh well!
I just got my "overnighted" package from the US Mint of the 2009 Proofs. If they were sent overnight.......why are they just getting here a day before my graded sets? Oh, I forgot, it's the US Mint.
I opened the package and then the box. My bad!!!!
The Sac is scratched and has a finger print on both sides. The pennies look hazed and one looks like it was touched too. A Prezzie is hazed. What gives? Were these the ones on the shelf for the last 6 months? This box of scrap metal is going back to the junkyard that sent them.
That's my take on grading, and the junk they have to try and grade.
I am taking a long hard look at collecting. I'd hate to think that the problems with the sports card grading scam is creeping into coins.
I know there are others that are thinking the same too.
I hope you're day has been a lot better than mine.
I actually feel a little better!
  12. namvette68
    A "PERFECT" 11?
    Hello everyone!
    WOW!
Are sets going crazy today. NGC has released a lot of the new proofs, and everyone is buying them up to complete their sets.
    Me too!
I have gone almost a whole year, waiting to see what was happening to my "Perfect 10" Sacagawea sets". I never figured on the 2009 to be a "Sacagawea".
However.......it was slotted into the set, and will drive me to the poorhouse!
Being fortunate to have made a few friends, I have added this newest coin to my existing sets. This was a great effort on a lot of people. They helped to make this happen.
My first full year in the Registry has been beyond my wildest dream.
I broke into the 500 ranking, and then some. I have sets in world coins I never anticipated. I have a few sets I struggled for.
To everyone that asked, told, commented, critiqued, and helped to make this happen......
    THANK YOU!!!!
Without this Society and all it has offered, I wouldn't even be here tonight.
Collectors are indeed some of the World's greatest people. I am humbled to be small part of it all!
  13. namvette68
This may be of help to everyone......sooner or later?
    Hello everyone!
I was browsing through some grading questions, looking for a pricing list on World coins. I found something that may help identify slabs and their evolution.
Just go to www.sampleslabs.com. If you don't find what you are looking for there, you may get more ideas for research.
I hope this might help some. You must click on the grading company to the left to view all slabs.
    Good Luck and Happy collecting!

  14. namvette68
The first in PF 69, but still #1
    Hi all,
I just got my 1st 1987 Loon proofs back. So far they top the chart. This isn't the greatest, but they do look good!
Only a PF 70 can beat them. I'll take that seeing as how it is so hard to get any Canadian issue graded as perfect.
I have more Canadian coins at NGC, but I don't even have to hope for a 70. All 69s are just fine.
I have enough "perfect" coins to add this year. I can live with my lovely Canadians.
Thanks to everyone that told me to diversify.
You'll see more in the future as they become available.
    Have a great day!

  15. namvette68
    Few COAs short!
    Hello everyone!
Here I thought I was doing everything right. I filled out the submission forms with everything needed to adequately convey my submission to the actual/eventual graded slab. I just happened to omit:
    The Certificate of Authenticity!!!
Some Canadian coins have a serial number on the COA.
Can everyone in unison say DUH???
Thank goodness a fax is somewhat faster than snailmail. My coins arrived, and they should mate up tomorrow or the next day.
The next hurdle is........turnaround times. My little package is now sandwiched somewhere in between the huge cartons and cases of those with all the sets that popped up this week. I guess that's OK. I have been here before. I am looking for only 4 coins out of them all to be 70s. After that, I will take what I am dealt.
To all of you with hope for the pennies, I think your wishes will come true. I didn't look too long, but they looked great. Maybe real metal is the key thing that's been missing?
I would like at least a PF 70 set of them to pass on. They are the future of the run!
I hope during these tough times, everyone is making it work. I have been very fortunate to do as well as I have. I am blessed with both good friends and acquaintances.
I'd like to also take time to thank those that looked, or are looking at eBid. My coins will be there for now. I do much better, and it is way cheaper.
I would also like to thank the few that take time to introduce themselves. I get email from newbies and vested members alike.
To Lisa, Amy, and the rest of the team at NGC. To the collectors, dealers, and friends that love coins. To those that reached out, and are reaching out, to Society members in need...
    THANK YOU!!!
Your attention and devotion are not going unnoticed.

  16. namvette68
a top pop coin and more
    Hello everyone!
The results are in. My 1987 Canada Proof Loon made PF 69 Ultra Cameo. According to the census, it is the best .....so far.
My day was really made because I have them all. They just finalized today.
    WOOOOOOHOOOO!
I will have images when they get here. NGC has the images in the data base.
I even started a set. The rest are going to auction for future submissions. I would have liked one 70, but these are just fine.
I wish my others would be so lucky!
US coins are coming back soon too. QC will be busy this month.
    Happy collecting all!
I listed one in my new store on eBid. I had a view within 30 seconds! Looking and buying are two different things though.

  17. namvette68
    Finally!
    Hi Everyone
Well, it's finally that happy day again. More sets to NGC!
    WOOOOOHOOOOO
Pennies, and dollars, and Sacs and..........you name it!
Hopefully all my Sacs will come back with a FDOI pedigree?
Good luck to everyone that is submitting the flood of new metal into the economy. I wish NGC sold stock!
I guess this is the "change" we were promised?
My Loons aren't done yet, and the next wave is already there.
Hopefully I will get a few 70s to complete my sets.
Hopefully we all get 70s. It has been a tough few months.
I crossed my fingers for everyone!
    Have a great day!

  18. namvette68
My Lancaster is nicer than your Braille
    Hello everyone!
I just got my Canadian coin back, and is it a beauty? WOW!
It is so nice, I can say it is even nicer than MY PF69 Braille.
Only 19 more to make a set, but anything is possible.
To those that questioned my intensity with the Sacagawea sets,
    I say......I have diversified!
Canadian proofs match anything we do. They even do holograms and pure gold (plated) cameos.
Most of these are very limited also. Mintage on most is less than the 1995W Eagle.
I got mine graded to be able to see them up close without harming them.
I have even listed a few on the new auction site. Not many members have joined, but that's OK. My listing fees have dropped dramatically and exposure has quadrupled.
Here is one going to auction......it's still nice!
Happy 70s to everyone. More good news coming soon!

  19. namvette68
Good things come to those that wait! Maybe
    Hey Everyone!
Here is something that may help us all. I see a few drawbacks in selling lots of things, but I have a lot of abstract coins listed.
If you like it.....you'll like it. If you don't, it's another place to look when you cannot find it anywhere else.
    http://us.four.ebid.net/perl/normal.cgi?ref=760460&mo=register-main
Good luck! You'll see me and a few others you may know in there.
I hope this an alternative to expensive listings and other fees.
The more that look and join, means less on the other site.
Have a safe and Happy Holiday!
  20. namvette68
Want to list your coin auctions for free?
    Hello everyone!
I found a place to go.
Yes, there is a fee for the top perks, but feebay has no perks.
It has become a place to plop your hard earned investment to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Listing fees, subtitle fees, 1 free photo, gallery fees, highlight fees.......had enough yet? No, you say???
How about the hefty "final value fee"? Next comes the "PayPal Only" coin transaction? Give me a break!( I kept it clean)
I cannot do this anymore. I am trying another place.
    Lifetime subscription.....$49.99 That's it!
    NO LISTING FEES! EVER!
I paid the above fee. I just listed 14 auctions. A regular,a reserve,a Buy It Now,and a Dutch auction. I took the highlighted a few times and the "featured" a few more. So far, less than $6 bucks. All 14? YUP
You can enter up to 5 photos per auction, free too!
Now the kicker......no final value fees. Depending on auction listing choice.
You even get a free logo Tshirt.
Want to hear more? I bet you do.
I get points for winning bids. I get points for new members. All you need to do is click on the link. You can even go for as little as 7 days to 365. There is a fee for that.
My first listing (30 days) has had 134 views in one (1) day. On feebay, I never got that on 20 auctions in a month.
I want to see what happens when I sell......is this the way to go for us in the coin collecting world? I think it is for me.
I blew $50 last month on feebay listing fees and sold a $3.00 coin.
    WOO HOO
OH......you can accept various forms of payment too. Remember the check/money order era? PayPal too, but you know all about their(feebay) fees. Credit cards, debit cards, Google, and a few I never heard of.
Please don't email me to death. I am a tired little old man.
If there is one negative response, just one, to my entering the link, you ain't gonna get it from me. If you have the money.....I know you've thrown away more on feebay. I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe this is the wake up call to the high priced place?
If there are no dissenters, I will leave the link tomorrow. Their special is only on for a short time.
    GET WORLDWIDE EXPOSURE TOO!!!
This has been a GREAT day!
OH.......my last submission made it to QC today. I hope they got the hint?
    Peace and tranquility to all.
Have the safest of Holiday weekends!

  21. namvette68
I wish I had that job.
    Hello everyone!
I just got two boxes from NGC. My little proof set(1960), and a few Canadian in the other. I got my 1c slab back with a gouge in the face of the slab. My Canadian, a hologram, has abrasion(slight) over the hologram.
I guess when you try to get your coins preserved, and presentable, you need to send them in to be reslabbed a few times until it is right?
No kudos for quality control today.
Am I the only one starting to see this?
    Have a great day!

    A few here.....a few there!
    Hello everyone!
Not an overwhelming week by any means. I did get MS 66 on the new HABS Canadians. I also sent two proofs to PCGS, and seven went to NGC.
I have a $50 Cook Island coin I'd like to send in. It looks perfect to me on both sides. I think the graders are either lacking something on world coins, or there's a prejudice concerning superior quality. A 70 is almost non-existent.
Anyway, I take what they give me. There are no price guides to compare different grades, so no big deal.
Looking back on one set, I wish I had never started. Modern $1 Commemoratives. I guess I can get rid of them , and make a #1 set of halves.
    Look out eBay.....here they come!
I'm looking forward to some of the new proofs. I like the pennies. Real copper too!
I hope you all get the coin/s you seek.
    Have a great day!

My pair is finalized today.......good and bad!
    Hi all!
I just got the results for my pair of Braille Commemoratives.
MS69 and PF 69 Ultra Cameo.
Not bad considering I thought the proof was a 70 and the uncirculated a 68.
The census says there are more 70s than 69s, but i just added to the lower numbers.
I put them into my set for now. I can wait until the 70s come down to $60, and grab the pair to upgrade.
Everything else I sent was MS65. I hope my world coins do better.
I already have 1 that NGC doesn't grade. Oh well......PCGS does!
I have more nice coins ready to go soon. Hopefully they'll make better grades.
I'm happy with the last submissions. I expected the results, so no disappointments. NGC did something I didn't expect to my FDOM Sac, They left it in the OGP, and graded the whole thing. NICE!!!
I am not registering it. If you care to see, it is #23888912-001.
It is in the NGC Verification.
    This makes my day!
Thanks to NGC for the special care and great turn times!
    Happy collecting to everyone!

    SIMPLY AMAZING.....AND THEN SOME
    Hello all!
I sent a small submission to NGC. My monthly 5 coin proof set.
This one was the 1960 small date proofs.
I did well for coins this old. NGC did very well too.

    Six working days!!!!

These may not be award winning coins, but they will look great in my collection.
These coins arrived at NGC on the 1st and are now ready to ship on the 7th? Exemplary performance without dispute. My Brailles should be soon. I guess there is no use chomping at the bit for a MS 68 and a PF 70. I may be delightfully found wrong though.
I'm saving up now for the big sets.
    Happy collecting and good grades!
