Great looking type coins for 50 bucks.
The nice thing about all those common date certified Morgan dollars is that you can buy a really sharp looking type coin-say an 1881-S MS64-for about $50.00.
Interesting Population figures!!
According to Morgan Dollar population figures NGC has graded about 1.5 million dollars to date. Of these 10 specific common dates/mints account for a suprising 54% of the total. Also of interest is just three of these 10 the 1881-S, 1885-O and the 1887-P account for a whopping 22.5% of the 1.5 million. The coins showing the fewest graded are the 1986-S (752), 1903-S (744) and the 1904-S (978). These figures of course don't consider coins resubmitted which would
Ever seen a gold Eagle in MS66 with fantastic color and luster?
I have been collecting lower grade eagles as they are more fun to collect when they fit in my budget and I have a better chance of filling the set. Unfortunately I was not able to get any GEM examples. I figured I should have at least one but where and how to get one for a respectable price?
I was recently communicating with the owner of the famous Kutasi collection (Probably the finest set ever assembled anywhere) and he jus
The flip side...actually the obverse.
To my surprise there was actually a little interest in my barber dime. I have been asked to privide a scan of the obverse, so here it is. Without magnification, this dime looks pristine, but as you can see under magnification, Lady Liberty has been marred for life. This is a proof dime that is still a real beauty (unless under a mag.) and with a mintage of only 670, yes, well under a thousand, there are very few to go around. When I bought this dime, I k
Is this a mint defect or something else...the coin still graded but...
I bought this guy online and sent it in. It graded, but is much nicer than an AU58. There is a lamination of something on the front (may be able to see in the scans), other than that, the coin is 64/65...I am not a Nickel guy, what are your thoughts please? Mike

Too bad it cannot be graded! :-(
Attached is my scan of a beautiful 1904 Barber Dime housed in my collection. I would love to be able to add this to my registry, but, alas, I cannot. Somewhere in its 101 year history, somebody decided to spiff it up a little, and I cannot understand why.. Proff condition, it simply did not need to be cleaned. It was and you can see the hairlines under magnification. Too bad. But I wanted to show off this beauty, so here it is.
Don't like the canned sets? Make your own signature set! NGC gave you this wonderful gift. Why not use it?
Here's what I did with the US Type Set. I was actually on the opposite end of the issue. I didn't like that the US Type Set excluded gold issues so I made my own Signature Set to compensate for what I perceived as a shortcoming.
In addition, to pare down what would have been a huge set, I decided to limit it to major design changes and I also excluded modern issues. This made
Should be multiple sets.
As pointed out, the full USA Type set does not include gold.
And there is already a separate 20th Century Gold type set.
I would suggest:
20th Century Type Set, Non-Proofs Only
20th Century Type Set, Non-Proofs Only, w/Gold
20th Century Type Set, Proofs Only
20th Century Type Set, Proofs and Non-Proofs
20th Century Type Set, Proofs and Non-Proofs, w/Gold
My 2 cents worth.
WHY MUST THERE BE GOLD?
The full USA Type Set does not have gold included. I am on a limited budget -- there is absolutely no way that I will ever be able to complete a 20th century registry set with gold included. Granted, this is not an Earth-shattering issue, but I would like to have the satisfaction of someday seeing "100% complete" next to that set. Can a type set category like this be created? Insight from those who know would be appreciated -- thanks!
This is a copy of my letter to Ms. Pierce. Customer Service for NGC.
Hello Ms. Pierce, If you have taken the time to notice, you will see that in the last week or so, several people have posted journal entries reliving not-so-great experiences with NGC's grading process. Each of these authors have received email back from others that have thier own horror stories. Somewhere along the line, your paying customers are going to say ENOUGH!! We, your paying customers, you know, the people who sign
Pretty lady and pretty bird on both side. Has luster.
When I send some of thes to be graded. Maybe evaluation will be a little easier. This is just a hobby. I have alot of coins. This is a long ordeal I can see. Fun Though

I am no expert yet. This one has hardly been worn. Feathers and breast area convex/concave. Able to see clearly. Really shiney for not being cleaned .
