Popular Post Hinkle
Here's a cool find, passed this up a few times thinking it was just damaged. But taking a closer look I believe it's lamination. I can see how easy this would be mistakenly as damaged and thrown back in circulation. Popular Post Greenstang
Nice, a retained laminate that has been partiially peeled back. The Neophyte Numismatist, JT2, R__Rash and 1 other

Mr.Bill347
Ok dumb question: wasn’t the 1918 cent 95% copper? If so why would there be a lamination error? R__Rash

Popular Post Greenstang
A lamination is generally (to cover myself, I say generally because there have been rare cases of lamination on clad coins) restricted to solid alloy coins as it is caused by the presence of contaminants or impurities in the alloy which separate when the planchet is made. They can be small or run the full length of the coin. Hinkle, powermad5000, Sandon and 2 others 4

As indicated older 95% solid copper cents can have areas of the surface peel or delaminate which is believed to be the result of impurities as Greenstang noted, and are called "lamination" errors. For later copper clad zinc cents something similar at the surface would be called "peeling plating". https://www.error-ref.com/retained-lamination/ https://www.error-ref.com/cracked-and-peeling-plating/ Hinkle, powermad5000, R__Rash and 1 other 3

It just so happens that this is the only gold coin I own at this point. One. Uno. I bought it in honor of my aunt as it was her birth year. She recently just passed. As for @Hinkle, I have seen lamination errors on just about all series of coins. I also have one on a Morgan. Very cool! You got a keeper there!
