Pocket Piece 1 1

How many people carry a pocket piece? I bought this 1880 when I first started collecting. It was uncirculated but had been cleaned. I was an unexperienced collector and didnt know no better until I learned the signs of cleaned coins. And it had 100% for sure been cleaned. I pack it in my wallet everywhere I go. Been packing it for a couple years now. Its amazing how much a silver coin will wear down packing it everyday for a couple years time. I think its fun packing a pocket piece. Its a good conversation coin. Its a good flipper if you get in a situation where you need heads or tails.  The guys at work think its lucky and they like to scratch their lottery scratchers with it. . It didnt bring me no luck on the couple Ive scratched with it. I may buy 1 or 2 tickets a year. I dont like to waste my money on it. Im to unlucky. Id rather use my extra money to buy a coin or something that is a for sure thing. There has been a couple $100 winners scratched off with it from the guys at work. And several $5, $10, and $20 winners. Its a wonder they havent wore the edge off it. Ive seen them lose way more than they won. I got it out earlier to just flip it around and play with it and noticed how worn down its getting. I figured it wouldnt wear that quickly. Must get a lot of friction inside that wallet. Even the reeded edge has worn down quite a bit. It was completely uncirculated with a great strike. Would have been a very nice coin if not for the cleaning. 

Ill quit rattling on about things people could care less about. Im mainly trying to make conversation. Anyways, who else carries a pocket piece? And what do you carry? Any neat stories behind your pocket piece or the reason you carry it? Would enjoy the conversation. 

Heres mine now. Its also got quite a few dings where its been dropped several times.

I've tried several times but in my job, I do a lot of crawling under buildings, vehicles, things like that and I always end up losing them!  I know a guy though that still carries the Morgan dollar that his father carried through Europe in WWII and after.  All you can see is a faint outline of Liberty's head, otherwise you would think it is a blank slug.

I've been carrying this cleaned damaged Morgan since 2007. When I'm just piddling around the house I wear sweats, but when I go to town I wear jeans. I always carry my case pocket knife, a cheap 3x loupe and this Morgan.

I would like to have a Morgan and a Saint that are each worn so that I can hold them in my hand, if not carry in my pocket (good way to lose 'em ).

An AU common Morgan should cost $30 or less, but an AU common Saint is gonna cost ~ $2,000.

Better make sure the pockets don't have any holes.....

I like to keep a hundred year old coin in my wallet, I am less likely to loose it that way.

I carried this one for several years, to see if I could wear the cleaning hairlines off of it. It is now wrapped in a napkin, to see if/how it tones.

I never have been even tempted to carry a pocket piece. Heck, now that I’m retired, some days I barely put on PANTS! Since the beginning of December, I’ve only driven my car three times.

...yes i carry a pocket piece...it was minted at the SW mint, its .357 diam...its also "fool" PROOF...probably xf45 n the toning is marginal....

I also have a pocket piece something like that. Its also .357 in diameter. Mine was minted at a little bit cheaper mint but its still a very nice piece to carry around. Its got 6 holes all the way around the rim of it.  The toning is kinda blueish and its worn in a few places. Got a little rub on it in a couple spots where pack it every single day. But I still like it very much. Not to awful heavy neither.

Mine is a Taurus in .327 Federal Magnum. I no longer need a permit to carry it in Alabama. We went Constitutional Carry on 1/1/23. It’s a sweet narrow package, and the cartridges are slim but LONG.

The green background threw the color off on the coin. It’s not that magenta.

They done that here also. I keep my CCDW permit still yet cause its very handy for background checks. I can buy one and give them that card  and be out the door in less than 10 minutes.

...love the .327 cartridge, slim n long a great combo...'bama has some great ideas,reminds me of the "dont tread on me" boys from the 18th century who carried  as well....

But back on topic, I have this one that came back cleaned, but I still am scared to carry it everyday, just days when I wear my jeans that don't have holes in the pockets.

I figure if I pocket carry it enough, it will actually grade one day.

Very nice pocket piece(s) . The reason I carry the Morgan I do is because I have a zip up pocket in my wallet I keep it in. If I didnt have that I probably wouldnt carry it. Im bad about losing things in my regular pockets. Mines full of holes also.

I have some worn Morgan, Peace, and Franklins that I've inherited over the years.  I actually should run their condition (mostly AU and below) and year/mintmark by you all some time just to make sure I don't have a semi-rare one that might be worth 3-5x the silver value.

...just to keep on thread here, i used to carry a mining token that my grandfather carried from his mining days but unfortunately lost it, later i carried a po-1 morgan but it seemed too large n awkward to carry, of course during my military days one carried the obligatory challenge coin, now i carry a worn Liberty Seated half dollar, it seems like a comfortable compromise size-wise....

Good catch. I did not realize that the background would have that much effect on the silver/gray color of the coin.
