Collector Coin with Augmented Reality 1 1

Hello my friends. I pre ordered this 2021 Tokelau Robots coin 9.5 months ago and it finally arrived lol.

This Tokelau 2021 Robots Coin is quite different from other collector coins. Other than it's stunning quality and design, it features the first ever augmented reality phone application.

Scan a coin using your mobile camera and the coin comes to life with sound and movement, thanks to augmented reality (AR) technology

 

 

 

The 3oz silver coin is 50 mm in diameter and has a limited mintage of 399 coins.

This coin deserves a comment.  Here's mine...  If I, a traditional coin collector, were warned I would be charged with sedition, or some other High Crime, for simply stating publicly here i/f/o God and every member, that I like this coin, I would do so unreservedly and unapologetically, come what may.

You've breached a few barriers here, YouTube, being one, and breathtaking photography and presentation, being another.

I LIKE THE COIN!  I am prepared to receive my punishment.  😉

It has an interesting and creative design. The absence of unnecessary clutter is refreshing and something that US coinage would benefit from. Too bad it has no real monetary value...if it did the denomination would be about NZ $70.

After downloading the phone app. You place your phone over the coin and the  male and female Robots walk toward one another and embrace. The youtube video in my post shows the augmented reality portion at the end of the quick video. It's a cool gimmick.

This coin has a way of sucking in even the most devout of traditional coin collectors. I fell for it lol. The augmented gimmick is just that, but the coin is breathtaking and well designed.

It's literally the total opposite of what I collect.  I collect old and primitive, and this is new and futuristic.  I LOVE it - it is beautiful.

It does have 20 New Zealand Dollars on it. Wouldn't it be compared to our American Eagles and Buffalo Bullion coins having a denomination value on it? A pretty neat coin but not my cup o' tea.

The US medallic tokens have a denomination solely to be able to easily prosecute counterfeiters under the coinage statutes.

The three dependency atolls are not an independent country and use the NZ$ as a way of calling it a coin when it will never see circulation.

Neither is particularly honest or forthright, But --- how many who buy these things really care?

[Aside:  I recall a news article many years ago announcing the introduction of a plastic polymer bank note in Australia. It sounded like it made practical sense--$USD scarcely survive two years in circulation--but to my knowledge, there hasn't been a word said about it since.  AR, whether on coins or currency, sounds futuristic, but I'll bet there is someone waiting in the wings ready to suggest it's all a government plot to track people.]  🤔

That’s not quite it, at least for the Swiss and Mexican banknotes. Shapes appear to “grow out of” features on the banknotes.
