It's become a real possibility that the US government could do away with coins n cash. 

Saving billions, with no coins and bills to produce.  Wiping coin collecting off the map.

It wont wipe collecting off the map. There are millions of examples out there to collect. Id say the mint would still strike collector series. Such as proofs and ASEs. If they done something like that it would be the business strikes. I dont really see them doing it in the near future. They may render certain denominations obsolete. Such as the cent. But there is still way to many people dependent on cash.

Your theoretical is only valid for US coins. There’s a big big world out there that depends on hard currency.  Not many atms in the Sahara or elsewhere. The vast majority of the world population is nothing like the population of the US.   We’ll just collect some other countries product. Thanks JZ’s cat🙀

Yes, it would immediately cause all coins ever minted anywhere, any time, to be melted down. No more collecting.

Nope. The trend is for governments to ensure all segments of society have access to physical currency. Without that, one would destroy access to basic necessities for a significant portion of people -- people who work hard and participate in the overall economy to a much greater personal extent than wealthy. Many corporations, however, would gladly stop accepting cash. That would cut expenses --- maybe more than ending the obnoxious background "music" they buy for their business locations.

This is a great point, my friend.  Remember the kerfuffle that the demonetization of 500 and 1000 Rupee banknotes in India caused back in 2016? That was a mess........that is not an indicator of a society that is going cashless anytime soon and India is the sixth largest economy in the world.

There are virtual coin flipping apps, you know. If you have an Apple Home Pod, you can just say, “Hey Siri, flip a coin.” She’ll tell you heads or tails and there are approximately 50-50 outcomes.  She rolls one or several dice, too.
