Lem E Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 Hello and welcome to the forum. Not exactly sure what you are referring to but It looks like a dirty nickel to me. Got some gunk on it.
Lem E Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 (edited) If you could post a couple of pics of both sides of the coin and orient them right side up, members will be able to help you a little better. Its hard to see details when the pic is upside down and at an angle. Also, a brief description of what you are asking about will help a lot. Edited April 12, 2021 by Lem E Add
bsshog40 Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 Yep, looks like a nickel to me too! With a stain running down the middle! Modwriter 1
Greenstang Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 (edited) Welcome to the Forum As stated, always post a head on (not on an angle) photo of both sides of the coin oriented right side up. Also state exactly what your area of concern is. This saves us from guessing what about what you want to know. PS - Did you read the sticky at the top of this forum before posting? Newguy78 Posted April 12, 2021 Author Posted April 12, 2021 Sorry guys will upload better pics and it seems to me anyway that it's peeling of some sotrs
Coinbuf Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 If you are wondering about the long stain on the obv, that is some type of glue or foreign substance on the coin. A quick soak in acetone will most likely remove it.
l.cutler Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Like Coinbuf said, glue or some other foreign substance. Woods020 and Oldhoopster 2
Newguy78 Posted April 14, 2021 Author Posted April 14, 2021 Don't think it's glue there is no edge to it. Also looks like the cladding is gone and there seems to be some tarnishing
Hoghead515 Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 (edited) Something just got on it that tarnished it. Nickle layer is still there. Edited April 14, 2021 by Hoghead515
Fenntucky Mike Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 It's not a mint error, in case you were wondering, just a booger/foreign substance/damage, what it is exactly doesn't really matter in this case. If you're interested in pursuing this further I would try removing the substance as suggested above. Hoghead515 1

Also looks like the cladding is gone and there seems to be some tarnishing Nickels are not clad, they are a solid 75% copper 25% Nickel alloy. Your coin is stained/environmentally damaged, or has some glue/adhesive or other substance as others have said. It is not an error of any kind One of the keys to identifying errors and varieties is knowing the minting and die making process. You've received answers from members who are very knowledgeable of the process.
