RWB Posted August 19, 2020 Author Posted August 19, 2020 For those interested, the book not only covers (or uncovers) Anna Williams role, but it examines George Morgan's initial work and issuance of the new silver dollar, the mystery of the missing 1895-P dollars, and large scale melting under the Pittman Act of 1918. Also, for silver dollars specialists, there is information that untangles the 8 and 7 tail feather confusion.

RWB Posted August 22, 2020 Author Posted August 22, 2020 (edited) Insider - I looked into the 7/8 TF dies because it was critical in understanding how the earlier coins of 1878, and the later design changes were produced and how they fell into sequence. In essence 7/8 TF are just incomplete grinding and rehubbing of 8 TF dies so that new 7 TF dies could be produced sooner than normal. Existing 8TF dies were partially effaced than impressed with the new 7 TF hub. This eliminated most of the blows needed to make a working die. It also gave the rehubbed dies a uniform radius which the 8 TF dies did not have. Edited August 22, 2020 by RWB
