Bid is at $6500 plus juice or $7475 total. Next bid is $7000 or $8050 all in.

MJ

If someone else wants it, they will have to pay more than $8050. And my guess is that it will sell for in excess of that amount.

You guys say grade doesnt matter so I am curious as to why it was sent in for regrade atleast 6 times??? strange

I looked through this thread, before replying here. And I found exactly ONE post in which the poster seemed to be of the opinion that the grade of this coin doesn't matter that much:

"The price of this coin will have little to do whether it's a 64 or 64+ or 65." And, as best I can tell, he doesn't have multiple personalities.

So please stop with the "you guys...".

MS64 25062864

MS64+ 25398628

MS64+ 26205818

MS64+ 25511694

MS64+ 26488405

MS64+ 26082049 Green CAC

MS65 25056705, Green CAC

Thats telling...

I really wish I could have seen this coin in hand... I might make the trip to LV just to see it.

But like they say it doesnt matter how many times you fail, you just have to succeed once.

That one dude is loco. Oh, snap.........that was me. My premise is I doubt it will be a registry set guy that buys this coin. It may be driven up by in price by a "Peace Guy" but the winner is likely to be toned specialist. Therefore the grade is rendered secondary. In this case it really is all about the coin. Refreshing.

It would appear that CAC is also saying the grade doesnt matter, green bean at 64, green bean at 65...And they are 2-3 people.

What holder was it in when it sold for "just over $8000"?

Thanks.

And in answer to the question from Dimefreak...

I think that in the vast majority of cases (particularly where this is a large difference in the bid levels between two grades) the assigned grade does matter.

Additionally, I sated "my guess is that it will sell for in excess of that amount." ($8050). But that doesn't mean I " feel it cant be had for the $8050". That's possible. But if someone else wants it, they will have to pay more than that to win it.

I think the better pics will help this coin too! Those heritage pics aren't the greatest, the Legend Morphy pics show how amazing the coin is, so any big spenders if they never saw it in hand before may be willing to spend the money now

Even though that facial expression was aimed at Charmy, for purposes of the picture, I will still give you a touché (and applause) for that - well done! :golfclap:

Now please stop scaring me with pictures like that! :D

Thanks Mark, for what its worth I couldn't agree more. I been flirting with an idea of doing a Peace set. It seems every date and mintmark has a grade level where the price elevates drastically. MS65 is that level for the 23S. I believe getting it in a MS65 holder was a monumental feat.

Im not sure I agree with the MS65 grade but...than again maybe it is

I'm interested in knowing what others do about this kind of thing. I tend to avoid the coins that make a huge jump in grade. So I'd go find an MS64. Then again, I'm known for paying premiums for color...

I'm also curious about the multiple submissions. I noticed that many came back MS64+ and yet they kept submitting. Is this saying that the grade of MS64+ isn't doing it's job of filling in the price gaps that exist in some coins...such as between 64 and 65? If true, count me as being NOT surprised.

We will find out shortly what the difference in price is for a 64+ and a 65. We knew that this very coin went for $8812 as a 64+.

Looking at it another way.

The PCGS price guide lists the 23-S at $650 in 64+. Again this subject coin went for $8812

The PCGS price guide lists the 23-S at $4250 in 65. So now that this coin is a 65 what would the grade premium be? We already know what the toning premium is.

It will be interesting to see what this hammers for. So again I think for this particular coin the toning premiums represents the vast majority of the price and the grade is closer to tertiary then secondary in nature. This coin will have to hammer into five figures to make me think otherwise. It very well may.

The good news is my 23-s in a 63 holder is now a shot 66

Wow if that peace dollar in greatcollections is a MS64+ then the Ex Duckor coin has to be a 65+. The GC coin has more reed marks on the obverse then it actually has reeds on its edge.
