Well I finally did it...

I finally turned to the dark side. By that I mean I am on the other side of the counter. I am now on the dealer side. I am working in a coin shop here in the Dallas area. Been buying a ton of coins as of late. We do lots of bullion at the moment and also non bullion coins. It Amazes me what people sell and at what prices sometimes. Sometimes they want the moon, while other times they are super easy to deal with. Today I bought a nice 1923 S Peace Dollar Vam. Those coins are always cool. Lets see how this works out.

Lets see how this works out.

Signs things are amiss.

1) Euphoria at seeing all the coins

2) Buying coins increases the adrenaline

3) Rushing to work each day to buy more coins

4) Trading your paycheck to take coins home

5) Going in debt to the owner to take bigger coins home

6) Having no income, only coins as salary, bills start to pile up

7) You work longer hours to feed the habit, your friends go away, you are alone

8) You and your coins are forced to live in a homeless shelter, but the rush at the coin shop is your fix.

9) Your boss sees you spiraling out of control and limits your buying.

10) You will do things you have never done before to get more coins. The bottom is near and you will hit hard.

Good luck :)

I guess I should add we buy scrap gold and silver, as well as sell jewelry. The coins are our best seller and now with me there, it even helps that much more.

Someone asked about interesting stories and or finds. I had just bought about 100 walkers and while looking them over I found a VG 38 D. Me nor the seller caught it at the time of the sale. That is one of the cool finds for me. I am always honest to people and I let them know what they have if I catch it. I also tell them I have to make a profit on it. Most understand.

One of the coolest coins I have bought so far over the counter was a 1618 Austrian Thaler. The coin had the beginnings of a small hole but it was not all the way through the coin. Made for a cool buy. The coin went into the store collection.

On the scrap side... One of the fun buys was buying nearly 100 penny weights of 14K. For those who do not know that is a serious chunk of gold.

Of the high grade coins here have been some of the highlights...

1909 S VDB .. Sent to PCGS came back VF35

1835 Quarter AU55 or so

1941 S( I think that was the date?) PCGS MS67FB CAC

1840 O - AU 55 or so. No drapery

Complete merc set with a G4 16 D

Gonna be a fun year to say the least.
