This roll has also been opened on the head side. I do this all the time with rolls I have searched. The people at the bank think I never opened them
I get what your saying but your assumption doesn't mean it's a fact.
Maybe it has been maybe it hasnt. Either way im pretty sure this roll is a bust too. What leads you to believe it has been opened already for a fact?
I do see how you could assume from the reverse end being super tight and neat but the obverse is tight just not as neat. Is that what your basing it on?
I'm asking this in a positive curious tone I know words with no emotions can be taken in the wrong context so I wanted to clarify that I'm just genuinely curious. Thanks for your input

I asked because you actually never know what you might get in cash register change just as well as roll hunting. Over the years I have gotten some surprising things in my cash register change. I did get an Indian Head cent only one time. It was a common 1900 date very well worn but I was still surprised to get one of those handed to me.
Never found an Indian head cent that's pretty cool to find! Yeah I get what you mean I posted a 1941 1/4 Gulden that I found in a penny roll a week or so ago that was a big surprise for me.

Just curious . Were you curious because it would be good change find or something else?

I'm sitting on literally dozens of rolls of all the 2009 reverses. They were bought for 55 cents per roll. They'll sit until my son decides to open them after I'm gone.
Hopefully thats way down the road!!
Wishing him the best of luck on those dozens of rolls!

I got a full roll of the Formative Years design from the bank when they came out. The roll was all the same date and same (P)'s. I went through the whole roll one at a time and sent in the best one of the roll. It came back MS 66 RD. Not really worth the cost of sending it in. My advice would be since you already messed with the end of the roll, it would be hard to sell off the whole roll on say eBay because everybody will assume it has been cherrypicked so I would go ahead and open it, but I wouldn't expect to find any 67's or 68's unless you were super lucky. It's kind of like playing the lotto. I hope you get lucky and do find a superb gem in it. Good luck!
Maybe revisit this thread with the results.
Mhmm might just have to play the coin roll lotto again. I'm pretty sure this roll is another bust though
-
Well I did just come across another roll. I did not open this one. The last roll was a bust. I doubt any were higher than MS 66 if that even. Majority either had something or barely anything but the ones that were clean from marks or most marks had little black circles or smudges/stains..you can see the problem on the reverse end of this photo clearly but you see it on the obverse side as well. This is the unopened roll I found today. I'm assuming it will have the same problem..sigh

Not spare change. Not hunting per se. I did find it opening a roll though. Most of the time I come across them the date is never legible or barely sadly.

I am not a varieties/error collector myself as those things are interesting to study but I have no interest in searching for or owning very many. As such if I were to open and look through that roll I would only be searching for that MS68 needle in the haystack coin. I don't know where you found the info you posted above, but VV does list several DDR's for this coin. To be honest the DDR's I found listed on VV are extremely underwhelming (imo) and I doubt that any carry much of a premium, although I do admit I did not attempt to look up any value info.
Good luck if you do decide to open it and look through it.
Yeah I thought it was underwhelming as well..I was hoping for something more exciting. Just knobs on the cabin with magnification. I will be opening it but as you stated only to look for MS 67+ thanks again!

@Coinbufit's looking like this is what I'm looking for unless it's not correct. I'm going to go ahead and look and post any findings at some point. Thanks again!

Good luck, from the end photo it looks like this roll has already been opened. But even if true and that person was only looking for errors or varieties then there could still be a gem inside.
I opened it to verify if it was a full row and not just an ender showing. I closed it and taped where I opened.
I have not moved any out yet. I will have to research errors and varieties for this coin. Hoping there is something nice and clean in there
@Coinbuf so should I carefully go through them?

Thought it was interesting finding a roll of these. Maybe there are some keepers. These probably aren't worth much but I figured if there were some at MS 67 or greater it would be a decent find.
Probably not worth grading any even if I did find some gems in here am I right? Any opinions on value or worth sorting through? Anything else welcome, thank you!

That sure is unusual to find in a roll! I am also surprised it is in such good condition for its age. Excellent find!
It definitely caught me off guard when I opened the roll! Even more so when it was this silver foreign and not a dime or some other small foreign coin. Neat find

Netherlands East Indies 1/4 Gulden 1941P
I'm pretty sure that was correct. I don't go out of my way for foreign coins but this was a neat find in a penny roll.
Considering I don't have one and it was in good shape for the most part and has good luster still. Not sure about the value but I'm assuming only a few bucks mainly due to silver content sadly. Any opinions or knowledge welcome.

Lol the ridges to smooth to have been removed try again
I'm sorry if it's not what you were hoping for. Everyone here is being honest though.
It's not an error of any kind..this happens often with coins. If you Google and search about what a dryer coin is you will see that. As @Greenstangsaid it is just damage. If you tried getting this graded you would be out of a lot of money. You can do whatever you like though

Yes. Experience. Trying to sell to a dealer is, well, like being bent over and you know what next. Many of them are "dry", don't look at you as a customer or potential future customer, pull out their greysheet, and some will even shave some off that price and tell you they will give you $50 for your $200 coin.
I, myself, try to not deal with them when it comes to selling. When it comes to selling, it seems like everything is a "loss". Even the bigger auction houses want their cut. Sites like eBay are going to take their fees from you. Consignment takes pretty much 30%+ right off the bat. Pawn shops, and local coin shops are just as bad as dealing with the greysheet.
To me, the only way to come close to selling for FMV is private cash sales such as between members of a coin club for instance.
I have thought about private sales in the future seems like a more level playing field. Just takes more time and effort.
If I do take anything to someone I would just like to see how the game plays out and see what they say I'm not desperate, emotional or in a rush..no blood in the water.
Actually sounds kind of fun just would be better if a fair deal was made. For both parties. It would be a good experience although maybe not a pleasant one
Hopefully I have done well on comps. Worse case scenario is I will just have my coin that I like. Hopefully one day it doesn't tank.

“Plateau” if you’re lucky. Some coins decline markedly. When fairly commonly hoarded in BU rolls coins like 1950-D nickels start getting into plastic, the pops can explode pretty quickly, and the prices collapse.
I took this into consideration before and with other pieces and I agree with you 100%.

I am eminently unqualified to pass judgment on your choice of coin. (I no longer remember where the designer's initials are supposed to be!) If you can hold out for a better example to come along, do so. Excelsior! NY state motto meaning, Ever Upward.
Will do, thank you! Thanks for explaining your use of excelsior. Whenever i see that word used I think of Stan Lee saying it.
I thought NY state motto was "Hey I'm walking here!" Just playing
