  1. It "could" be an acid dipped coin. Back in the 50's and 60's, kids in science class would dip copper penny's in Hydrochloric acid, reducing the cent down until it was the size of a dime. The kids would us the dime size cents in soda machines and other candy and coin machines.
  2. Could this also be a struck thru? If we had better pictures we could tell.
  3. Did you write this? "Yours is damage also. It doesn't really matter exactly how it happened, the fact that it could not have happened during the striking of coin defaults ... "
  4. Can we see a better picture? A much better picture, please.
  5. You learn better by doing your own research. If you hit a brick wall, fine ask your question. The questions I have, I know have already been asked somewhere before. I can almost find all the answers to my questions here, just by searching the threads. I also have no problem sharing what little knowledge or experience I have. You also know, that there are a lot of "lazy" people out there that come here and expect you (us) to do the work for them!
  6. Yes, I took the pictures in sunlight. Yes, different light and angle of view can mess with the appearance. For me, the term "silver clad" is to confusing. It's either silver or it's clad. The guys I communicate with know the term "40%'er" means 65 to 70 Kennedy halves. 90%'ers are all dimes, quarters, halves & dollars minted 1964 and earlier. I roll hunted quarters in 2019, 2020 & 2021 during the W craze!
  7. I know, I've been searching halves for many years, not just silver but errors. You are obviously searching the right way by looking at the dates and all three sides of the coins... Many novice CRH'ers are not. They are just looking at the edge of the coins. I'm not saying they look exactly like a modern copper nickel junk clad half. I said it's not a well defined band, like the one you posted above "but" the line is there. An untrained eye might confuse it for a junk clad half. Also, I don't call 65-70 Kennedy halves "Silver Clad", I call them 40%'ers. Maybe that's where some of the confusion is. These are all 40%'ers I've found in circulation. All I'm saying is that in the light, you can see some copper on these edges and could be mistaken for junk clad by an untrained eye.
  8. I'm just a meat and potatoes collector, not a gourmet guy. Basically what my disclaimer says. Not really sure how the coin bug actually bit me. I started years ago as a kid, putting penny's from my paper route in a Whitman folder. I couldn't afford to keep the nickels, dime, quarters, etc... I think back on all those silver dimes and quarters I had in my pockets. No way could I have saved it all. I needed the money to buy the next weeks papers. My collection focus is pretty much on American classic coins, filling albums, upgrading when I can, working on key dates and CRH'ing. I've also always been interested in "real" mint error coins.
  9. I know. You said: "The silver clad halves "did not" have a copper colored band around the edge." It's not a well defined band, but the copper color is there. You have to really look for it. Many 40%'ers have slipped thru the fingers of CRH'ers over the years. If CRH'ers are just looking at the edges of halves, (and not knowing what they are looking at), they will miss it for sure. Many nice 40% edges look like modern clad junk! They better be looking at the dates when doing their searching.
  10. What's silver clad? Never heard of that. A 40%'er??
  11. It's a half dollar. I thought it was also denomination.
  12. Does that mean we can change the category to errors?
  13. For the most part, the guys ATS are logical, reasonable, know how to intelligently debate, have a sense of self awareness and don't take themselves to seriously. Not as many Tin foil hats over there. That is if you haven't already been put on a permanent vacation!
