  2. My strategy is to establish a legacy/family heirloom collection. Hopefully, to be past down to the kids one day after I'm gone...... But who knows, my collection will probably end up in one of you guys collections one day!
  3. I had this one graded 15 or 20 years ago. Don't ask me why. I think it was one of the very first coin I submitted for grading. I think I was just testing my non-professional grading skills. I got burned of course!! I never touched this coin. It was in an old Whitman folder since I was a kid, back in the 60's. Couldn't tell you where it was before that. I didn't know you could recolor a coin. Maybe they thought it was cleaned!....who knows!?!? I still like the look of the coin.
  4. Yes, family heirlooms! πŸ‘πŸ»

  8. You have any coin dealers near you? If you do, take it to them and see what they say.
  9. Not the best pictures. Can't tell if it's reflection. You're looking in the right spot though. Let's see what others say.
  10. The mint set is from the 70's and obviously done by hand. The fingerprint slowly appeared over time. Not sure how they're packaged today.
  11. Yes, I know this kind of stuff gets thru. I have several mint and proof sets with damaged coins and error coins in them. I even have one with a fingerprint on the coin! No doubt in my mind, that mint employee could be identified by the FBI's fingerprint division!! I have no idea how these mint and proof sets are even packaged. By machine? Hand packaged? I don't know.
  12. More then once, I've asked the sellers on eBay and other selling sites for better pictures of the exact area on the coins I'm interested in seeing. Most usually comply. When they do, they usually send me the pictures thru the PM system. Which means other buyers don't see them and the advantage goes to me. If not, I move on.
  13. So you're saying they bag and ship proof coins?
  14. possibly contemporary? Is there another possibility?
  15. Sorry for all the questions: These must have been used for the protection of all dies, not just proofs? Would this resin cap be made from a two part A & B apoxy? This one must have been for the anvil die? How do you think the OP acquired it?
  16. Don't let the pandemic stop you from doing anything!........ to late now I guess!
  17. You mean this one? That's not a die crack, it's part of the coin.
  18. I'm sure the OP is talking about what you guys are saying. That haze or tarnish is fairly common on these proofs.
