  1. This one would be pretty nice if it wernt for the scratch on the obverse side but its still a nice coin. I thought/hoped this would reach the MS rankings despite the scratch, maybe even a 63 but with my lack of experience grading coins I just dont know. So tell me what yall think!! Thank You, Mike P.S. It wouldnt allow me to post all 4 pics so ill do obverse in this post with reverse in the following. Edit; Ignore my scratch talk. Its on another coin. My bad
  2. Aw well its about what I figured. Ive had several coins I wondered about but havnt posted them because they were to iffy and I didnt want to post yet another DDO thread. Like I have now, The ring in it had me curious. Is that what is referred to as the ring of death or is it just off center?
  3. I know yall get these DDO questions all the time and yep heres another. The biggest problem is I think it may have the "ring of death" and even if it is a DDO its pretty beat up. Tell me what ya think, Mike
  4. Its amazing how much background knowledge you folks have. It shouldnt surprise me, I mean its a coin forum after all but its still amazing.
  5. Hey speak for yourself! My own personal grade is Almost Smart 52. Thanks for the help in figuring out this coins possible ranking. I didnt figure it would rate very high with the eagles chest showing so much wear and the worn spots on the obverse. You know theres only one part of the Morgans design I dont like and it stands out and bugs me every time. Its that blob of a hat on the back of her head like an afterthought. It stands out from everything else with its lack of detail and its one of the first places to wear from what ive seen.
  6. Ok heres another one of my Morgan coins for yall to consider. As always be honest and grade thee coin on its merits. Thanks, Mike
  7. Okay you can all relax, I am here. I am the be all and the end all of Numismatic knowledge. I am a walking, talking, grading, trading coin connoisseur of the first order. JAnsley come Monday morning you call down there to the NGC and you ask for Frankie the Nose. He will be expecting your call and will tell you where to send your coin for a first class grade, 'wink wink'. Oh yeah we err, he will need your Power of Attorney, bank account numbers, plus your Routing and Transit numbers. Now im sure some of you are wondering just how I became a Numismatic expert in such a short time. Well let me ease your minds, I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night. Nuff said!!!
  8. I wish I had known about that site before I ordered my red book. Their price for it is ridiculously low for the spiral edition
  9. Im very new to this also but im all for buying from the Mint. Now I have a pretty limited budget so I try to keep my buys to coins or sets with fairly low production numbers. I came very close to buying the coin set your talking about and I still may. If for some reason you needed to sell that set it looks like it wouldnt be very hard to get your money and maybe a bit more out of it. Oh yeah, heres a tip; If you want coins from the mint that you know are going to be in high demand be sure to set up the Remind Me request on that coins page. I got my reminder the day they released the 2021 S. Eagle Reverse Proof Designer Set. The sale started at 12:00 and I think I noticed they were out by 12:42. Luckily I got my order in but it wasnt easy as the site kept crashing. I had to reload that site about a dozen times before my order actually went thru. Welcome to the nuthouse, Mike
  10. See I would rather see them caught by the father. Like the one down in Daytona Beach. On the 911 call the father says "I got him right here on the floor in a puddle of blood". No he didnt kill him but it looks the guy lived by luck alone.
  11. I dont understand why you would think that persons actions were unethical. He bought a token, restored it a bit and then paid to have it slabbed, which increased its sale value. You could have done the same thing he did and with over 40 years "collecting, selling, buying coins" it would seem to me to be a logical step for you to take.
  12. I bought this set on Amazon. Its made from a PS material (polystyrene). The capsules are all the same size but come with a perforated foam insert which can be sized to the coin you wish to put in the case. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0921RNTJF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  13. No, that I dont believe. If anything the consequences of those 'activities' are getting harsher every year, as they should.
  14. Yeah no sense in sending that one off. Ill tell you what Ill do, since im feeling generous today ill give you $10 over melt value and ill tell you the joke about the Nun and the Uber ride.
  15. Dang MrBill, that was very educational and encompassing. Thanks for the info. I just ordered The Red Book and the Top 100 The VAM Keys 4th edition today. It will take a little time but ill get my library stocked up and maybe I can learn some of the history behind the coins.
  16. Ive never heard of the O/CC Morgan. How can you tell thats what it is and just what does it mean when you say its a O over CC coin?? Oh yeah, nice score on the coins J.P., you too MrBill! That St. Gaudens medal is gorgeous.
  17. I read some place that star notes were made to make up for the regular bills which were destroyed due to some type of error. As far as them being rare I have no idea if the $100.00 bills are any more rare than the other denominations. Heres a link to one on Ebay thats the same year as yours and the serial numbers arent that far apart. https://www.ebay.com/itm/114815105246?hash=item1abb8378de:g:y8wAAOSwqEhgpF-z
  18. I ran across this picture on the PCGS message boards. It was posted by someone named SONOMOSCA (Got to give credit where its due) who thought more stars would be a big improvement. To be honest a few stars would have helped fill the open voids
  19. The 2021 S. Eagles minted at the West Point mint all have the W mint mark. Ive read that the bullion S. Eagles minted at the San Francisco mint do not have mint marks. I do not know if the San Francisco mint put out any proof coins but one article did state they only minted the type 2 coins there. https://www.moderncoinmart.com/info-vault/articles/coin-mintage-charts/silver-eagles-mintage-chart.html Hopefully someone with more knowledge than I have will jump in here and if I made any mistakes correct them. Mike
  20. Congrats!! To me the reverse proof Eagles are gorgeous and are my favorite. The reverse polish really makes them stand out. Pictures really dont do them justice.
  21. For some reason this discussion reminds me of a conversation I had with a used car salesman once.
  22. Kind of looks like a crow or a raven in the head but then if I look too hard at the head of the old design it resembles a rooster. It doesnt matter either way im happy with them
  23. The coins order was in processing for 10 days then changed to shipped on the 23rd but didnt show up on the USPS page till two days ago. They arrived today and now that ulcer ive been forming can go back whence it came. I have to say I like the old reverse emblem and the new obverse Lady the most. Combine the two and it would be perfect in my opinion. This is the first time ive ever seen a reverse proof Eagle and I love them, they just stand out beautifully to me. Mike
  24. Thanks Woods, pointing out some of the exact areas to look at helps. Ive got a few more Morgans to post which are in better condition than the 1901O is I think but ill look them over again in those areas
