1900-O Morgan
James Zyskowski replied to LDH Coins & Memorabilia's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
Well this old man has appreciation for a good camera and is ok with my iPhone. I would get a fancy rig but my associate is rolling on the floor laughing at me. I guess he’s got a point! Why do I need a fancy camera that costs more than our best coin! He’s killing me. Gasping about not having any gold not even a tenth oz coin. Friends can be so cruel 😂 -
No sir each background seems to be the photographers choice. Any similarities are probably just that or👀

Not only will you learn about coins but there’s a good chance the most important you’ll learn is about your grandpa and some of the history he lived

On my old iPhone 7 I get the best natural light I can. Push magnifying up to 2.5-3 .0. Photo setting. Give it a second camera will focus shoot 3-4 snaps pick best one turn coin over repeat. Practice or get an old iPhone cheap. -
Check my response in other thread. I really think grandpa (and I am one)was hoping someone would look and feel the family heirlooms vibe. One cool thing you can do is upgrade while in your custody (it’s said we are caretakers) Sell lower grades upgrade if possible or just handle with care and get them into capsules. Check eBay sold prices for rough idea of value. It’s what you can sell it for that determines the value (partially). He’s got a walking liberty half and Franklin and Kennedy.

Silver 1960,62 and 1963 Washington quarters
James Zyskowski replied to Dusty3333's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
Did grandpa say anything or leave any notes. Looks like he was headed in a direction and maybe you can figure it out. Family heirlooms love over melt value sounds nice. If he or someone who was close to him may have insight into his thinking. Having not established rip. Welcome. Maybe start by checking ebay sold prices White cotton gloves inexpensive Then quality coin capsules. eBay 101$ size $8 and up lots of deals. Cotton t-shirt material also handy -

Ahh. The last person who went looking for a gold mine accidentally fell down a rabbit hole (apparently they look similar). Sleep on it and in the morning ask yourself does this sound reasonable? Maybe $20,000 but sounds fishy to me. Believe it or not there are some shady characters in the coin business -
Welcome. Some pictures would help. Being silver it’s got $3-4 melt value (approximately). Depending on condition the value usually climbs. Thanks for your question. Pictures. Ask if you need help uploading and tips on picture taking

I’m really confused with your response. It’s like you’re describing events that occur daily kids baseball parental views. Then a description of the normal business of buying and selling coins. Ofcourse the buyer has options. I think you are referring to TPG and coin value mags perhaps eBay sold prices as something rare or unavailable. -

VKurtB. Seems to me that some gold mines start as little holes in the ground. Dig on. You’ll be ok because you seem to be able to tell poop from shine-ola. Just because rabbits are prolific breeders and dig alot of holes doesn’t mean you can’t get lucky -

I agree My iPhone 7 is very good. Practice. Natural light seems best. I can now hold the coin and shoot with the other hand. I add +3 magnification and I agree with Jason some very nice pictures coming from older iPhones I have heard $350 -$1000+ for the camera and lens set up. Then come the how do I use this thing questions !i’m laughing with you as I have problems with instructions and comprehension -

If you like the looks of these you are not alone. We flipped when we saw the eagle especially. We picked up 2012-&-2013 2coin ase sets. They go by on eBay fairly reasonably inexpensive and wow the coins are really beautiful. -

Posed this question to my associate and he suggested something like a short set of ase’s example: 2017 S proof to current. They run in a row. Addition of earlier ase’s S mint mark proofs will complete set Simple things like that. Maybe just reverse proof ase’s. Maybe reverse proof innovation dollars. Pre 1982 pennies back to first Lincoln memorial reverse. -

What if we post the ten most asked questions. Then list some possible answers for each. Update it as needed. Kinda prescreening The poster then eliminates answers and hopefully is directed to a relevant question. Post a quick list of most requested information photos weight size. With a little work it might be done. Seems like intelligent folks around here should be able to figure this out. Just a thought? -

They are looking for a way to make an easy buck, those who fall for internet offerings and advice. The area of concern is just how is a newbie supposed to act. What is an acceptable question? This forum sez newbie. That in and of itself opens the door to anyone and therefore the very nature of newbies questions being innocent or the start of a train wreck. -
