  1. I contacted Osborne Coinage and here’s what they said. HI William – what a great find! Unfortunately our electronic records don’t go back to 1971. My guess, based on your photos and the condition of the coin, is a nickel silver alloy, especially since it doesn’t look tarnished. When you look at it, is it a silver color? Sometimes it’s hard to tell with pictures, coins are notoriously hard to photograph! Thank you for contacting us. Can you tell me the composition on it? Thank you Sent from my iPhone
  2. I found this 61 year old coin/token from our local community. The bank closed in 1971. It is 1.54In 39MM across, .08 inches thick, weight is 23gm Reeded edge, Non magnetic somewhat heavy. Appears like clad edge. Obviously drilled for keychain. Anyone recognize the OC mintmark?
  3. the pictures are way to blurry to see any detail. looking through plastic pages within flips is nearly impossible to form any opinion whatsoever.
  4. I even called the secret service, as they are the organization that police’s this fraudulent activity. A nice lady said when a foreign country floods the market with counterfeits, they said they had no authority on a foreign country . I have three counterfeits. One is a very nice Morgan that I actually sent in for grading and it came back “NOT GENUINE”. The other two I knew were fake but bought them anyway, and got a refund from PayPal for fraudulent coins. There are a ton out there. We have to be very wary of Chinese knock offs. I haven’t bought many raw coins as a result and only from a seller that will stand behind their coins.
  5. Thank you Hog! Very kind of you. Not sure what I’ll do with them yet, but accomplished a goal.
  6. Eagle, yeah, unless you ready to spend a lot of money, time and effort seeking them out, and quite frankly, to what end? I understand from a reliable source that NGC may soon allow the creation of custom sets, as does the collectors society branch of NGC. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to figure out how to upload my images yet, so I’m hopeful that will happen. Until then, I know they are safely stored.
  7. Also another interesting note. There are three beautiful girls on Facebook with their name Morgan Dollar!
  8. Thanks Neo and Eagle. That coinworld article was astounding!
  9. Good grief Neo Gregory Brunks book is $303. You’d have to be quite interested in counterstamps to justify it.
  10. Food for thought, are these coins that you could clean and shine up?
  11. Interesting tidbit from David Bowers https://stacksbowers.com/counterstamp-gallery-of-coins-qdb/#:~:text=Over a long period of,to advertise products and services.
  12. Why were they stamped? Many Pennie’s and nickels were stamped. I’m starting to think this is a new challenge . are the new Lincoln cent stamped coins just someone messing around defacing coins, or is it actually profitable to stamp them for resale? why early coins are stamped in low denominations? curious minds want to know, 😝
  13. I keep seeing sales like the attached. And begin to think “Crack em out”
  14. Coinbuf, ok, I gave in and bought the IS boxes. Now I’m going to have to unload all those very nice cigar boxes! Lol 😆 at least there is a market for those. in the long run, whether I keep them or sell them, the IS boxes will be important. value add for selling, safe storage if keeping. Thanks for the HO. Bill
