Greenstang got a reaction from l.cutler in 1955 D Silver Wheat Penny 3grams
Looks like a regular Lincoln Cent to me. The weight is within tolerance and copper coins can change to many different colours and shades depending on the environment. Could even have been cleaned with a household cleaner which will change the colour.

Greenstang got a reaction from Jfanth in 1916 penny error?
PMD ( Post Minting Damage)
Jfantnj- Everything you have been posting is just circulation damage of one sort or the other.
Things like gouges, dings, scratches, broken letters, worn letters etc. are nearly always damage. It is only an error if it happens during the actual striking of the coin. Instead of looking at everything as an error, look at it as damage and then ask yourself is it possible for this to happen when being struck. Most of the time the answer will be no. Look up one of the several websites on what an actual error is and you will see the difference. One that I use is “error-ref.com” It’s a lot of reading but also a lot of information.

Greenstang got a reaction from bsshog40 in 1955 Penny Error?
It’s a Die Chip, called a BIE because it looks like an I between the B and E.
No extra value.

Greenstang got a reaction from l.cutler in Error or damaged?
It is damage. It is not always necessary to know how it happened for unless you were there at the time, you may never know.
What is important is to know how coins are minted and there is no way that could happen when the coin was struck so the only alternative is that it is damage.

Greenstang got a reaction from Modwriter in 5 cents value...
I like the one where the Bison is hanging upside down like a Sloth

Greenstang got a reaction from Modwriter in 5 cents value...
All just common circulated nickels worth five cents each.
They would have to grade high MS to have any value.

Greenstang got a reaction from Modwriter in 2009-D Early Childhood Satin Finish Penny
Hard to grade from those pictures but the value in that condition would be 1 cent. There were 150 million produced and even in uncirculated condition they are only worth a couple of dollars
Just Bob beat me by seconds. (gonna have to learn how to type faster, still using two fingers)
Glad we both have the same opinion

Greenstang got a reaction from proud potato in hi how can i tell if a coin is counterfit
One thing that you can do is compare the photo of the coin you are interested in with that of a known genuine coin and look for minute differences.
Sometimes the difference in weight can tell you.
Look at the seller, is he reputable? Is he selling a high value coin for a low price?
Basically there is a lot of studying that goes into identifying a counterfeit, especially with the new technology the counterfeiters have come up with.
You can always post a photo of the coin on this forum and someone should be able to help you identify whether it is genuine or not.

Greenstang got a reaction from Reno Raines in 3 1943 wheat pennies
The mint produced over 1 BILLION steel plated with zinc coins in 1943 in an effort to save copper
during the second world war so they are not scarce. The no mint means it was struck at the Philadelphia mint

Greenstang got a reaction from Mr.Bill347 in 1943 D Jefferson nickel. Good steps? Do you see 6?
Pictures are a little out of focus but they don’t look like full steps.
Also to be certified as full steps, it has to be in MS condition.
