  1. Considering the latest P- certification populations, you're a member of an exclusive fraternity. Whatever the reason, there is a glass ceiling at MS-66 resulting in a pileup at that grade and a desert above, and beyond. Congratulations! 🐓
  2. Gentlemen, let's just say the debacle at Churchill Downs was a literary diversionary tactic that sounds a whole lot better than "Permanently Banned." I love this place! Lurking about just didn't cut it for me. Pardon me while I check out "Elite Collection." 😉
  3. I agree, and now that I have gotten over the fact that a complete unknown demolished me at the Kentucky Derby, I have an observation to make. "Ridges" of any kind when viewed with my frowned upon 30x loupe reveal, for lack of a better expression, lands and grooves, no? It stands to reason then that any reflectivity would vary at every interval when rotated horizontally and incrementally 360°. I have an MS-67 coin which exhibits this infliction marvelously but the luster has both its high and low points.
  4. 🐓 : Weren't those Pocahontas dollars dated on the edge? Q.A. It's a dated thread, Ricky. I believe so, but I don't remember. (Why do you refer to them as "Pokes?") 🐓 : Because I don't know how to spell Sac-------. Don't forget, I'm only a Rooster! 😉
  5. I've never seen one of those. You may be a newly-minted member, but by every measure, you're one helluva collector. Welcome aboard!
  6. 🐓: I'll take that as a yes. If it were no, you would have said so. 😉
  7. [Everest wouldn't be so bad either if it weren't for all those non-climbers.] 😉
  8. This was willful and premeditated, not inadvertent. X-ing out and mutilating the date suggests pathology.
  9. Agreed, and I believe gold looks splendid against a white background!
  10. Re "spiel"... any relation to schmo, shlamazel, schlepping or schlemiel, etymologically?
  11. Old thread acknowledged. Academic question: Would not any coin minted after the 1994 civil war be more technically referred to as Rwandan since the Belgian Congo no longer existed?
  12. [If first impressions count, I would have been way off the mark. I would have thought the exact opposite. The series suggests flippancy and frivolity. I believe you made the right call.]
  13. [If memory serves -- I neither wish to revisit or revive this thread -- I stood squarely behind this member and, much to my surprise alienated, some key Forum participants. Would I do the same if I had it to do all over again? Knowing me, probably. 😉
  14. 🐓: Old thread, notwithstanding, I believe your life would have taken an entirely different trajectory if you'd've had this book. Q.A. Is that a compliment, or put-down? 🤔 🐓 : 😉
  15. I agree. On the other hand I have a [common date] I H C which is glued to a money clip. That's got malice aforethought written all over it
  16. I don't know who's right or wrong but to the consternation of at least one member, I use the term "legitimate counterfeit." I don't sweat the small stuff; life is too short. As the late Betty White observed, "The older you get, the better you get, unless you're a banana." 😉
  17. I would be willing to bet there is at least one member here, who having read that, thought, Never mind the coins. Now about those "old blue folders"... 😉
  18. Let' get real here. There is no such thing as a "quater." Now a "quarter" dollar, that's different. Oh wait, maybe it's an error, or better yet, a variety... nope, just checked. There are four easily ascertainable letters on the reverse: Q U A R... Just busting your chops here, OP! 😉 😜
  19. 🐓: Holy cow, Q! The new guy not only confessed to the crime, he taunts us with evidentiary photos of the device used in its commission! Q.A.: I am going to let him slide on this one. For well nigh two years I have been trying to ascertain the formal name of the tool used by graders in decapsulations and have been deflected at every turn: Kudos to the OP for finally providing a credible answer! 😉
  20. Old thread, notwithstanding -- (my, how tempus fugit!) -- I would be willing to bet you would concede that with a shift in lighting, what appears to be a scratch of no consequence, would be of great moment. 🤔
  21. This thread is so satisfying, I can skip breakfast now.
  22. Nah! I used my trusty Brillo pad and let's just say I expedited the process. (I won't disclose what two fair/good coins I destroyed) but the scheme backfired. I obliterated every recognizable feature and shot myself in the foot: they were rejected outright for not having dates. They were not at all impressed with my before and after pix. I still got 'em rumbling around in some drawer.
  23. @RWB That's a cold shot! I don't know how this comment got past me the first go-round! 😉
  24. ELEVEN YEARS LATER... Q.A.: What's your position on those John Mercanti special labels? 🐓: John... who? Q.A.: Thanks, you just proved the point I was going to make. 😉
