  1. I do not want to discourage others from responding, but I believe this is a question that is unanswerable.
  2. Provolone, unless someone reading this makes a wholly unanticipated guest appearance, a la "E.C," and says: "I am the former owner of that coin, I inherented it from my late father and..." You get the idea. Even the eyes of non-collectors are drawn to that exaggerated mint mark. I know mine were. It's 35% silver content is an added bonus. I know it's easily worth 20x face.
  3. Absolutely right, as I was writing this, news of Ray Liotta's death was announced and he loomed large in my mind. @Hoghead515 caught me on the title of a movie 🎬 LIFE, and now you've caught me on movie content, Thanks! . [BTW, it was very courageous of you to publicly endorse my comeback! I try not to "follow" anyone for fear lines will be drawn and enmity result.]
  4. Well, already we have more than one opinion. And that's why grading is so subjective. Throw in toning, and subconsciously one's opinion changes for better or worse.
  5. Well, it all depends. If it were found among hand-rolled coins and taken to the bank where a teller would ask you to write your bank account number on it, that certainly qualifies as circulated. This quarter may be a "nothingburger" to some but it was apparently found some 30 years after silver was taken out of quarters and survived 86 years out there, somewhere, either overlooked, or likelier, in storage until liberated.
  6. Here's a question one can ponder over the long Memorial Day weekend... About how many times can a Mint State, or Uncirculated coin, be touched or handled or carried in a pouch of pocket before it loses its irreproachable virtue and earns circulated status?
  7. I like the reference to "new guy." Tongue-in-cheek, what else is this coin good for? A PO-1 is an achievable grade for experienced flame-throwers. To my knowledge, no one, not even a bored millionaire has ever compiled type set comprised of such exclusive [and elusive] coins and while any TPGS would be delighted to authenticate and certify one, I don't know if any Set Registry would accept such a compilation. πŸ˜‰
  8. What's with the 33? Everybody knows my lucky number is 37. πŸ“
  9. The inclusion of the lighter, while peculiar, was essential in determining whether this was a coin or not. Why do you call this curious artifact a "coin"?
  10. This is blasphemous! Scandalous! I am going to pretend I didn't see this. πŸ™ƒ πŸ“
  11. I vaguely recall the '50-D is a key date from my youth. And an MS-67 means you've got something very special. Good catch! πŸ‘
  12. Actually, and I could be wrong, precious metals are weighed in Troy ounces, 12 of which equal a pound, or something like that.
  13. I wonder if I could have used my father's old slide ruler to calculate that. πŸ€”
  14. A few lacerations here and there but nothing a little more wear and tear can't fix. Hint: the date is key πŸ”‘ ! Don't over do it and, when you feel it's ready for its closeup, submit it for certification. You think I'm joshin' you? The difference between bupkis and the Holy Grail (Poor-1) is something exceedingly rare, or melt. πŸ€”
  15. Thank you! I appreciate the warm welcome. [When I informed my sister what had transpired her reaction was not unlike that of Jimmy Conway's (Robert DeNiro) after Henry Hill (the late Ray Liotta) shot Spyder: "What's this world coming to?" That's why I love NGC. I will see how things go, and if the coast is clear, I will renew my membership at the prevailing standard non-discounted rate on June 1st.] πŸ˜‰
  16. [Maybe when gold reaches the $5,000/oz. level optimistic prognosticators have long predicted, the optics on resumption of recovery will change. It was my understanding that not just anyone can go to the wreckage site. I thought some entity had staked a claim barring others from access.
  17. @Hoghead515 And that's only the beginning. Then there's the arduous task of upgrading. For fanatics like me, that can become a lifelong pursuit. You've got the right stuff. Enjoy! πŸ˜‰
  18. Actually quite well and my understanding is only a fraction of the treasure has been recovered. When I subsequently learned how things turned out -- Tommy Thompson now in his sixth year in prison, 500 missing coins, God knows how many cheated, investors -- I am disappointed in the way things turned out.
  19. All I want to know is did they ever catch the guy who stapled those???
  20. [Your lovely quarters are forcing me to take back every bad thing I have ever said about clad coinage.] πŸ˜‰
  21. [In my mind, my $5 trillion in Zimbabwe πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡Ό banknotes ought to count for something.]
  22. Troo dat, but Remarkable Discoveries (@DWLange) never cease...
  23. [To me, Anniston is inextricably linked to a burning πŸ”₯ Greyhound bus in the mid-1960's, and nothing else.]
